*I have a new WEBSITE! Head over to www.thetaoofdavid.com/ for Travel, Digital Nomad and Teaching blog posts incorporating video, text and photography, purchase my Teaching Online Ebooks (also at payhip.com/thetaoofdavid), take advantage of my affiliates and even book an English lesson with me at www.thetaoofdavid.com/book-en... 🇲🇽 REAL DEL MONTE, HIDALGO - It's time amigos. Finally time to head to Real del Monte in the state of Hidalgo in Central Mexico. As a UK citizen, I have never found anything in Mexico that connected me to my homeland, England, until now!
Real del Monte is a Pueblo Magico and an ex-mining town with a connection with England, specifically the county of Cornwall. Cornish miners came to Real del Monte in the early 1800's with innovative mining equipment which helped rejuvenate the Mexican mining industry. Amazing!!
In this video we check out Pastes (also influenced by England), architecture, go down the mines at MIna Acosta and visit the famous Panteon Ingles (English Cemetery).
Enjoy!
MUSIC - (Epidemic Sound)
"The Storm Inside" (instrumental) - Daniel Gunnarsson (intro, approaching mine, outro)
"Unconditional" - David Celeste (church)
"Life in Peace" - David Celeste (cemetery attempt 1)
"Never Leave This Place" - David Celeste (cemetery attempt 2)

@@Aotruba i'll have to check again. I might be going crazy! I worked for Tesco (large supermarket). Basically they bought the site and built the supermarket around the back. The actual hoover building you see from the road isn't really used except for some office space and stairways. I think other parts of the building are now used as Indian restaurants, I went to a Christmas party there once!

Hi David! It is a beautiful town, which takes us to other times, where history is breathed, and is very peaceful. I would love to try the pastes, especially the pastor one, they look delicious. And take a walk through the mines and the cemetery ... but in daylight! A hug and kisses 😘❤️

Watching from camborne cornwall, the heartland of the cornish mining industry, holman bro s , Richard trevithick ect, so many cornish families left to work the Mexico mines never to return. This is an untold story and thankyou for shedding a little light on the subject. The pasties look delicious albeit with a flare of Mexico

What a beautiful town! Thank you for recording your visit there, David! While in Devon, a walk on the moors, a stop for lunch in a village restaurant with a huge hearth/fireplace, teatime in a cafe with scones, cream, and lemon curd, and a village cemetery with a small church in Totnes or Darlington are sites that those of us from other countries like to see. Devon is a feast for the eyes. Enjoy ur visit home, and a warm hello to your mum from all your fans! :-)

Did you know that all the English graves of that cemetery are oriented towards England, except one, which belongs to Richard Bell, a clown recognized worldwide. Since the 1960s, Inocencio Hernández Lara, better known as Don Chencho, served as a caretaker and bearer of the legacy of the pantheon and the Hidalguese-Cornic culture, passed inheritance by word of mouth through the years. This work was done for almost 50 years and was recognized in 2005 by Queen Elizabeth II, who appointed him a member of the Order of the British Empire, being the only Mexican to have received this order. He himself was a miner of the region and husband April Skews Ramírez, a woman of English descent with whom she had two daughters After her death in 2011 her daughter, María del Carmen Hernández Skews, is now the bearer of this work, being the first woman to do it. In 2014 Prince Charles of Wales and his wife Camila de Cornwall made their fifth visit in Mexico, during which they toured the town of Mineral del Monte and the English Pantheon during the Day of the Dead celebrations. The Prince of Wales honored John Vial, a Mexican-British soldier who lost his life during World War I, depositing flower arrangements and a note that read "In Remembrance," In Memory. Upon leaving he signed the guestbook.
