There are few things in this world more satisfying that watching giant mechs fight giant monsters…and that’s exactly what director Guillermo del Toro achieved with his production of 2013’s Pacific Rim. Screenwriter Travis Beacham actually came up with the concept for the movie while taking a stroll on the Sanic Monica pier and imagining what it would be like if there were giant mechs defending the coastline. And as soon as Travis got the ball rolling, Guillermo del Toro was not far behind…as the legendary director was a huge lover of kaiju-fighting media from Japan…as productions like Ultraman, Spectreman and Giant Robo were foundational for Guillermo’s imagination growing up…and that very much fueled him into bringing the joys of monsters vs mechs onto the big screen with his unique vision.

The movie starts by showing us a close up of The Breach: a rift in spacetime located in the depths of the Pacific Rim…a tear that glows as blue as the toxic blood of the Kaiju that emerge from these interdimensional portals to attack humankind…much like what occurs within Legendary Pictures’ OTHER monster-universe with Godzilla and King Kong…as the Monsterverse Titans all have their origins from naturally occurring subterranean interdimensional portals to the Hollow Earth dimension.

The blending of practical and visual effects is AMAZING! Not many flicks can pull it off this well. Very few instances where you wonder if the image presented is in fact CG, or captured in camera! That's masterful execution! Especially when you can make a practical set seem so impossible to construct... That we all just assume it was built in a digital space! I also love MT's stuff! Super fun to listen to folks that are as amped about the movies as we are!

No only the mark 1s had issues with radiation. Specifically because they had shity radiation shielding due to how rushed they were in building them. All the others had the issues fixed And the Kaiju got the information on the Jaegers from when Newt drifted the first time. That is whyvthe specifically target the cockpits. Before that the Precursors had no idea what the Jaegers actually were they likely thought they were monsters just like their own

i'd say that saying the sequel was bad due to how the Jaegers didn't care about minimising structural damage is a bit silly, you're comparing veteran pilots to ones who barely passed the pilots exams.. of course they're not gonna try avoid collateral damage its their 1st time actually out in the Jaegers and they've not had to (not that many get the chance to) deal with the consequences of destroying buildings and such, if anything id say its a + to the movie as it shows their inexperience in actual combat, and for the mechs being faster and more agile? duuh they obviously going to make better and faster mechs, just like irl they make faster and better Jets, Tanks, Ships, etc
