In 1979 I studied piano as a piano performance major at Georgia State University and, as luck would have it, there was a cute voice student that I accompanied (because she was cute...). It turns out that Ruth Slenczynska was her aunt and, as a result of that connection, I was invited to hear the complete Chopin Etudes from both opuses in a setting that probably sat no more than 100-150 people. Folks... this women did - not - drop - a -single - note from the entire set of 24 etudes. Everything that came from her hands was just a string of pearls. She possessed a mastery that was simply impeccable. She then shared her story with the small gathering, the hardships and all. I remember her stating that she does not even like to use the word 'practice' with her young students. She tells them the PLAY the piano. PLAY. As in... it's a GOOD thing.

She has that golden tone - only the great can produce that (and just think of all the different teachers she had - Rachmaninoff, Cortot, Schnabel etc - it`s no wonder).

Wow! This is the piece I am currently working on. It's a bit of a challenge, as you can imagine. I am a particular fan of Rachmaninoff. My performance of Prelude in c# as a high school senior earned me a Knabe grand piano. So I have connections to this! She is 20 years older than I. I hope I am as vigorous as she is, in 20 years.

My favorite part, is when she realizes that she's painted herself into a technical corner, and just casually does a second take, instead of getting herself entrenched into some locked-up coordinations.

Ruth Slenczynska, pianist, plays Frédéric Chopin's Étude Op. 25, No. 11 Chopin / Ruth Slenczynska, 1972: Étude Op. 25 No. 11 in A minor My favorite pianist in her 47, not her best period in my opinion, however still quite touching still, though, poor recording quality. Ruth Slenczynska, pianist, plays Frédéric Chopin's Étude Op. 25, No. 11 In extreme comparison, maybe, this is encore, in very poor physical condition, for a old a lady aged 85, I think it's quite remarkable performance still, though, as my humble opinion, it's definitely way from her 50 % potential. So, It' definitely reasonably to expect a Slencynska's 100 years + old recital to be seen even recorded by me(since I am a recording engineer with somewhat purist purist perspective) at that venue. PLEASE! I PRAY for this, I am totally willing to do things I can able to do to realize this dream! PLEASE!

I am surprised to see Slenczynska playing a Steinway. She was, or maybe still is, a Baldwin artist.
@woodsidepianostudio14477 жыл бұрын
karlakor at home in NYC, she has a Steinway B, and a Bosendorfer.... no Baldwin!
What courage it must have taken for her to perform that when she was so far past her prime! She must have been past eighty, wasn't she? Still, I should think it would have been wiser for her to have played a group comprised of a mazurka, a waltz, one of the nocturnes, and perhaps an impromptu, instead of this formidable tour de force,
