If you're constantly staying in hotel rooms, take a picture of your door number when you get to your room. That way you have the number easily accessible and don't have to do something unsafe like writing it on the key/paper key sleeve. Same tip works for coat&bag checks, take a picture of the tag in case it falls out of your pocket.
@yendor20434 жыл бұрын
I also do this with rental car license plates and parking lot signs to know where I parked in large parking lots.

I travel on a ton of business trips with my husband and not only has taking a photo of the room number saved our bacon a few times but also getting one extra room key. That room key goes in my pocket when I am IN the hotel. I have a bad habit of forgetting the key in the room when doing laundry or going down for breakfast. The key in my pocket has saved me a few times.

My favorite travel tip... Packing cubes. I have had my travel transformed thanks to packing cubes. I can leave them in my bag like you do and pull out the one I need or unpack into drawers but just unzip and open the cube in the drawer. As my trips move along, I have clean and dirty cubes and the dirty ones stay packed. Mind you that I used to travel for a few weeks at a time with multiple destinations.

The packing checklist is gold. The key though, is to actually use it. Like an actual SAY AND DO checklist. Because after you’ve used one for a while it can be tempting to get overconfident in your memory of the packing routine and not reference the checklist. And then you still end up leaving home without your iPad charger or some equally critical item.

Hi Swayne, at 04:12...you forgot to mention your power strip. I always pack an extension cord or power strip whenever I travel because oftentimes the outlets near the nightstand are taken by the lamps so there isn't an available outlet for my mobile phone and/or laptop chargers. For people who sail on cruises, the cabins have limited outlets (only two outlets) so an extension cord is useful for charging your phones, laptops and digital alarm clocks.

I'm glad i'm not the only one having problems with light coming through a crack in window curtains! Staying overnight at different hotels, cities and time zones I've encountered common problems with hotel rooms staying dark during rest hours. I've always bring an electrical tape to stick the side of the curtains on to the wall to reduce lights from coming through, and usually a small furniture to hold the middle curtains together. But I've never thought of using hangar pant clips to hold them together, so that's a good tip! I'll be trying that on my next overnight.

I always take a drawstring backpack with me, sometimes two. The kind you often get as a promotional item for free. I use it to pack my shoes in like you suggested putting them in a bag. It takes up no space, and is useful if you have some down time to do some exploring in the city your are in. That way you have some sort of backpack for essentials like a windbreaker, water bottle, and phone charger, when out. I will often switch it out, and use it for a dirty laundry bag, if I need one, on the leg home.
