Thanks Margaret, I've learned some new tips. One thing about medicines or supplements. Some places require they be packed in the original bottles and/or have the prescriptions. There are options to have your medicines packed and labeled by some pharmacies it can be on a daily use separated by time needed; yes there is a cost, but its worth it if you must have your meds. Liquid prescription medicines do NOT count towards the 3-1-1 rule. I keep mine separate and inform TSA. It does help to roll your clothes together. They tend to wrinkle less and take less room. I've been traveling with just carry on for years. Another advantage is no waiting at the baggage carousel. PLEASE do put an ID tag inside your carry on. Weird things can happen.

Everything you said about meds/supplements is spot on, Heidi, but there's so much more to know and I edited that out altogether. My husband reminds me to err on the side of caution and put certain responsibilities squarely on the shoulders of individuals so I don't get blamed for "misinformation" or leaving out important details even if I have no idea what that particular person may need! (KZbin is a strange place!) Hence, my little blurb about doing your own research!!

Thank you, Margaret! My sons and I will go on my first cruise next year to celebrate a “Big-Oh” birthday. One tip I’m looking into is dry toothpaste that you pop in and chew before brushing. Back before paste, there was powdered dentifrice! We’ve come full circle!
@margaret.olander2 жыл бұрын
OOoo! Happy birthday, Sue!! Toothpaste dots... turns out that hikers have been making these for years but since I'm not a backpacker, this flew under my radar! I still haven't tried them yet but here's a link I saved: www.itstactical.com/gearcom/load-bearing/trimming-weight-with-toothpaste-dots-for-lightweight-backpacking/ If you have a better one, share it below!

I never take any toiletries, we go to Walmart when we get to our hotel, or do an instacart order. We recently went to Disney world and Walmart delivered to our hotel at no charge. I buy all of us bamboo tooth brushes, a small amount of toiletries shampoo/conditioner/toothpaste/lotion/sunscreen, and big one for me REAL toilet paper since I’m allergic to the crap cheap stuff hotels provide lol (I will never understand how these big hotels that cost a lot of money like the Disney resorts right next to Disney world can’t give you nicer toilet paper!) and at the end of our week it is usually about gone so it works out perfect. If you stay for longer than a week, buy the bigger bottles. I get the non fragrance version of everything so boys aren’t upset about girly smelling things. We all only travel with a backpack each and that way we never have to wait for bags or get them lost. We will bring with us a foldable duffle bag that is thin and we bring back the trinkets and stuffies we bought and usually my husband gets stuck carrying that one lol but he stows that as his bag in the overhead. We always buy snacks and water once we get to our destination for cheaper options other than every meal at Disney anyways, so adding the toiletries isn’t a wasted trip or anything and other than the tooth brush, it would be stuff we would have purchased and used anyways so I don’t feel too bad about it. I love your tips about using the bags things come in! I do that as well for bathroom garbage cans.

A WDW trip is a completely different packing experience, isn't it?! I literally have a separate packing list for it! (However, we're so sad about the recent poor decisions that impact guest experience that we don't have any trips planned anytime soon. 😣) Re: Toilet Paper...Only once did we stay at a value resort (for one night before a cruise) and I did remember having TP complaints! Ha! As for the other resorts, I guess we're tough because no issues here. We've always done the snack run or had them delivered but no toiletries because my husband says I have "no-wasteful-itis" so I can't leave behind partly used toiletries! 💸I guess the key takeaway here is *we all need to think creatively and find the solutions that work for us* ! Thanks for sharing your methods!

I just got back from HI and they wanted the bag of liquids kept in the carryon. I used a gallon bag but it was barely filled. They didn’t give my liquids a second thought but were interested in my shampoo & conditioner bars. There was no restriction on sanitizers. I had sprays and wipes, in same gallon bag. They did not care about my metal knitting needles by knit picks, only one pair. My husband brought a travel shaving cream. I always have travel jewelry and wipe my feet and shoes with the wipes before putting them in plastic grocery bags.

Great tips and many I have come up with a lot of the ideas you've suggested. 👍 I travel a lot internationally and am often away for 6 weeks or more, I often buy particular a lot of the liquids when I get to my destination; wherever the local's shop.💯 Of cause depending on where I'm going, even in remote Africa locals but I lot of the same things we do. 👚For clothing, I have a lot of modal fabric clothes which I use all the time, but it's fantastic to travel in. They don't need any ironing or even folding for that matter. A down coat is a must because they squash down to nothing, for those cold wet places. ❄🌨

Great minds think alike, Jy! SIX weeks or more! You must have some wonderful stories and experiences to share! The down coat.... 💜 and they're so much thinner and practical than they were in the 80s! Everybody needs one!

I got the Ethique sample bar shampoo before a trip, and it is now my regular shampoo. I take the sample size on trips. I also use Woosh make up pallet, but in the past I used Clinque "gift" pallet with a blush and two shadows at about 2" square. For clothes, like you said, it is personal. I take a black knit dress that I can easily dress up with a fancy necklace or scarf and that has worked for any fancy dress (think cruise formal night!) Thanks for the tips!

Ooo... I'm so glad to hear your Ethique review, Denise! I think I'll order some because I've only heard wonderful things about them. And YES to the black knit dress! Perfect solution!

Great video! I stopped flying last year because so many of my supplements are liquids. The only way I can get them down is to make blender “shakes” 3x/day. Too much to haul in my luggage. Now my blender and all my supplements drive all over the country with me.🤣 I absolutely love the de-potting makeup tip and disposable plastic for shoes. Now that I’m hauling my own luggage, less is definitely better!💕

You know I'm a big proponent of finding what works for you, Minini and clearly you've done some creative problem solving, too! I love that depotting tip, too, even for storage here at home. I rarely use all the colors in a palette and some of those case designs are so big and bulky.

This is so timely! The administration finally lifted the covid testing restrictions for coming back into the United States, so this girl will be traveling out of the country! One of the greatest tips I received from a friend was to buy Aveeno Baby Wash/Shampoo. With it you can wash your body, your hair and your clothing! Three in one is great! But to be honest, I have traveled a lot and i like to check my bags. I hate schlepping them around the airport and I have never had a problem even taking the trains to our hotels, etc.

My husband and I are planning a long-distance Amtrak journey next year, so we need not be TSA-compliant (since we won't be on an airplane); however, our hometown station does not have checked luggage, so we'll be limited to carry-on luggage anyway. I did spot a "knitting backpack" on Amazon last month, which I've added to my Amazon wishlist, and which in combination with my purse and the duffel bag I use for short trips, should suffice for my own luggage.
@margaret.olander2 жыл бұрын
Ooo... That sounds like fun! And carry-on only is easier to manage no matter what your situation is. You never hear anyone complain that they didn't have enough to carry! Ha! I just looked up that knitting backpack and it's a nice invention! These days I rarely take a yarn project because I never use it as I think I would but I do miss it while I'm gone! Ha!
@DOSBoxMom2 жыл бұрын
@@margaret.olander With our planned Amtrak journey, we'll be spending 2 nights on the train in each direction, with no WiFi -- and there's only so much reading Kindle books and watching downloaded movies I can do in-between recharges of my Fire tablet. And limiting the crochet supplies to what will fit in a "knitting backpack" will help ensure that I don't wear my fingers out bringing along too many projects!

For perfume I'm not sure if you've heard about a company named scent bird. I've seen several creators use them as a paid sponsor and they send you up to 3 different scents a month in this really cool applicators that twist up. They are and I'm sorry I'm using this term, travel size.

I'm glad you shared that here in the comments, Allison! I'm more of a one-scent woman so these things aren't on my radar but others will love it! And btw, "travel size" is a great term! I meant that JUST because it says travel on it, doesn't mean you need to rush out and buy it! Ha!

I’ve found except for makeup it’s pointless traveling with travel sized toiletries. Most hotel products are good enough for short trips. If it’s a longer trip just purchase what you need when you get there.

Thanks for the great video! I was wondering if you have a link for your "fanny pack" and for your noise canceling headphones? Thanks
@margaret.olander2 жыл бұрын
The noise cancelling headphones are in the Amazon links in the description box but the fanny pack I bought several years ago from Etsy. It was a Ukranian seller so I doubt I could find that exact one right now. Search Etsy for "leather belt bag" for options.

Do you take any handwork on the plane to pass the time? I 'm flying and plan to crochet for hours during lay overs
@margaret.olander2 жыл бұрын
I rarely take it anymore, Karen, because I find I don't pull it out nearly as much as I think I would. I do miss it in the gate area when waiting for the plane but that's about it. And internationally, you have to figure out which countries allow it in the carry on. Some don't and I'd be really bummed if I had to leave it behind! For a while, I would take a small project in a small project bag (sock yarn shawl that would take a long time to finish but require few skeins) many times I would never pull it out because I had just bought a new book I was excited about or there was a single mom with fussy baby and a bored, tired kid that I'll entertain or gate changes/flight cancellations or some such event would prevent my working on it. Sooo.... luckily have lots of interests!
