We moved 5 years ago to a different state. After the movers picked up everything that was going, my hired estate sales friends came in and did the moving sale. We moved only two cars and 3000 pounds-furniture that was family related. We started over after over 40 years of marriage and have been working diligently to keep clutter at bay. I unfortunately still have a lot of yarn, and since picking up sewing again, my fabric collection is building. I have been taking sewing classes via KZbin and an working to use what I have . I am very good at donating what I make because the creation is what I enjoy along with learning new techniques. We have been carryon travelers for years. It’s harder to make purchases that way! However, I do have to admit to mailing coffee and macadamia nuts home from Hawaii visits!
@sheepishlysharing2 жыл бұрын
I have no idea how many pounds of stuff we moved but it was a full moving truck TO Georgia and half a moving truck FROM Georgia! And yes... it's an ongoing process to watch what comes in! My closet is a good example of that. I really weeded out all that stuff I "might wear" and those things I loved but did NOT love on ME! As I buy new things, I'm either replacing basics or adding more versatile pieces being careful to leave all those free hangers I gained after the clear-out! Ha!

Thank you for being proactive and working to not leave a bunch of "stuff" for your kids to deal with when that time comes. It is going to be a nightmare when my loved one dies. The house is massive and every nook and cranny, closet, and extra room are stuffed to the gills. I like how you think about color and color combonations. I agree with the crochet moss stitch because I find it a little easier to manipulate so that I have the same or nearly the same number of stitches in each color. I know I need to get rid of stuff, but I have such a hard time doing that. I'm almost 67 and my husband is 71. Our daughter is an only child with three young children and lives nearby. All the work will fall on her, which isn't fair. My younger brother travels a lot for his work, and he sends me and my husband souvenirs from every place he goes. If it's something like kitchen towels, great, but he sends a variety of things. He likes to shop, but so do I! And I love thrift shops. I have a hard time resisting things that remind me of my childhood. My last surviving parent, my mom, passed away a year ago. There are five kids, and my mom was not a collector, so it's been relatively easy, but it is still a lot of work. Love your hats by the way!

Seems like you've just acknowledged the issue, Karen, and that's half the battle! I have a sentimentality problem, too, BUT... I love my kids more than my things and they don't love my things so who knows what would happen to them after I'm gone? Here's a trick that works for me: I took a picture of the item and I save it in a special folder on my computer. If you like to scrapbook, you could even do that, too! I've even been known to do that in a thrift store. There were 3 plates that were in the pattern of our childhood china. I started to buy them but I decided to let the picture be my memory instead. Just an idea that works for me!

I only buy hoodies when traveling . Up here in northern-ish Minnesota I where them just about year round. I am not sure I could resist yarn from the UK . I have to stop myself from buying more variegated yarn . I love how it looks in the skein but not so much worked up . Now a good tonal or dot is always welcome . I finally gave up on my instant pot ring and bought a few . We are currently building our retirement home . It is smaller than our current home . I don't plan to move in anything that doesn't have a set spot .
@karenh28902 жыл бұрын

Hi Margaret! You look great and you always do! When you were talking about the knicknacks I remembered when my mother passed away, 1995, my father started to declutter his house so that my brother and I were not burdened with the task! It really did help and I was grateful for that! Your hats are really nice and now I'm in the mood to start crocheting some, I'm not good at knitting! Time for me to use up some of my stash! Your kitty is so cute and he/she is very curious. Was that a person in a wheel chair on the golf course? Made me laugh! I don't own an instant pot and I'm really not one to buy a lot of these kinds of things. I am however really thinking about investing in an air fryer! Just curious if you have one? Thanks for this video, always interesting and informative!
@sheepishlysharing2 жыл бұрын
So glad your dad did that declutter for you, Diane. There's always more to do when the time comes but that was a help. And yes... that was a motorized wheelchair going down the cart path and I didn't see it until the editing process! Not sure what that was all about as typically, we're not allowed on the cart path unless playing golf OR if you're a spectator of a tournament. But even then, a person in a wheelchair would usually ride in a cart. Who knows?! I don't have an air fryer but my kids do. Basically, it's just a small convection oven with a drip pan. My microwave can also be a convection oven so I don't need a specific appliance just for that.

Oh goodness, give those beautiful cats of yours a scratch and cuddle from me! ♥ soooo beautiful ♥ Also, a question that is not knitting or crochet related! but do you decorate your house for autumn/halloween? It was never a thing here in Norway until some years ago. I was overjoyed the first time i started seeing maple leafs and pumpins sold in a store i used go to. So iv been collecting a few pieces over 2-3 years. I just love it! i love that feeling and all the cozy warm colors. Sorry if this is a bit of a boring question! i just love to see all the decorations in the US and other places!

Not a boring question at all! Yes, I have autumn AND Halloween decorations but I don't put them out until October. I've always lived in the Southern part of the US and it's still so hot in September that it feels weird! (Today's high is 97 degrees F/ 36 C) October is usually our temperature transition month so we'll continue to see high temperatures with a cooler temps dropping in here and there! Ha!

Oh, I was talking crochet moss stitch! I don't know if there is a knit moss stitch though (:

When knitting, a moss stitch is k1, p1, then the opposite on the next row, etc.

Soak the silicone ring in mustard water, it works on plastic containers to take odours and colours out of plastic especially tomato. x
