The Army jacket is a WWII vintage Eisenhower (Ike) jacket. The Vet was a Corporal who served in the European theater. I believe 18 months overseas as indicated by the three hash marks on the left cuff and honorably discharged at the end of the war indicated by the "Ruptured Duck" over the right breast pocket. save it, it should be preserved.

While it's known with explorers, more less an unwritten rule not to take anything and I agree, that jacket should be returned to the family if any is still existing. And that's not stealing. It's putting it back where it belongs.

Hi Kappy on the army uniform the two inverted stripes with a T below is technician 5th grade. The fancy patch above is for advanced base Headquarters in the European theater of operations. Towards the bottom of the left sleeve, the three gold bars on top of each other show overseas service in a war zone, each denoting 6 months (so 18 months total). I'm not 100% but the green bar at the very bottom of the sleeve may indicate he was wounded. In short he served in Europe during WW2 for 18 months, as a Technician 5th grade and was possibly wounded. As a Brit I'd like to thank him for his service, just such a shame the uniform is gathering dust in house that looks like it could fall down any minute, rather than a museum.

What a shame that this house is beyond repair. I was a antique dealer for 22 years before I had to retire due to health issues. It truly hurt my heart to look at the old furniture, hardware, doorknobs, fireplaces etc. I bet that a long time ago the huge hearth in the kitchen was used for cooking and heating. The old white free standing kitchen cabinet is awesome. I could go on and on. So sad that the remains of decades of family life is left to rot away. I’m sure the house has many stories to tell😥🤔🥺

I so agree with previous post by Gary Smith. We have my dad's army jacket from WW2 and it's a treasure and memorial for him (died in 2017 at 94). The furniture - all the dressers, kitchen table and chairs, a baby carriage and moses basket for baby, trunk, etc.. Such a shame. Tears.... :/ Thx for showing us. :)

@@williamkeith8944 I was born in 1950. The tv was a novelty when first acquired. Not many channels, certainly no cable. Had an antenna on the roof or rabbit ears on top of the tv which we children were employed to adjust as well as change channels. The washer and dryer were certainly newer than the old tub with a wringer that I remember from my childhood and part of my adulthood. The telephone was definitely newer than those from my childhood as was the radio. Someone lived comfortably in that home for many years.

The first dressing table with the unique mirror was mass produced in the 1940's. Hardwood and usually no veneers. I noticed other dressing tables, and additional furniture, that was much older. The kitchen had a fireplace, so cool. The kitchen cabinet may have been a Hoosier but could not tell. The closet, (2:33) had something behind the clothes that looked interesting. But I don't know what is was. Great find Kappy. And by the way, Merry Christmas Cheers

Around the 80's I found an abandoned house. It looked like it was probably built during the 50 or 60s, nothing about it said it was very old. It wasn't very big but maybe 10-20% bigger than the house I grew up in so I was a little bewildered by the sight of it just sitting there abandoned - but still in reasonably good shape. Everywhere there were signs that someone was in the middle of rehab-ing and then just gave up. I looked all over the first and second floors and thought what a waste it was going too, because of a few broken windows, it was being damaged every time it rained. I peeked into the basement and couldn't make out what exactly I was looking at, just seeing vague shapes at odd angles. So a few days later I returned with a flash light and as soon as I pointed it into the basement, I understood why the house was abandoned. The foundation was collapsing and had let so much water and sand in as to push all the appliances (water heater, washer & dryer etc.) all into the center of the floor clustered at odd angles around the stairs. Basically, the foundation was mostly gone and the house continued to stand out of some sheer strength of will. I never gave much thought about it but there was a swamp in the woods just 50 feet from the back door of that house and the swamp stretched on for a few hundred yards. I guess at some point the swamp compromised the foundation and whoever was doing the rehab decided to abandon it.

Very nice old house. The woodwork us interesting around the windows and doors. I noticed the upstairs did not have that. The furniture looked to be from the 20's and 30's. Would love to have some of that. Nice find.

There is some very nice old furniture in there. I was not expecting so much stuff on the second floor. Looks like the last resident was a collector. Seems like it would have been a nice place but it had some structural issues. Good video, Thanks Kappy. Have a Merry Christmas and a healthy New Year

My guess is that the last owner lived through the Great Depression. My Grandmother did and didn't throw away anything that could be reused. I remember balls of string, doorknobs holding rubber bands and jars were repurposed all the time.

I am guessing the owners died as they do not seem to have moved their things out. Possibly there might be someone lingering in a nursing home but it does not look like anyone has lived here for a long time.

That’s a WW2 Army jacket. He was a Corporal. Don’t let it be dishonored on the floor like the family did. Maybe they were divorced. In any case our countries freedom is because of these men. Take it to an expert dry cleaner or donate it to an Army museum if there is one. It’s clear the family no longer has any offspring or they just don’t care. Many Vets would preserve it too. Call The VA. Ask if any Veterans would care for it if u don’t want to. Those will be quite rare as The Veterans of WW2 themselves. There’s only a certain amount left as it is. Take care of it. It’s a disgrace and disrespectful to allow it to be abandoned. Show honor and find it a proper home with a museum or Veteran. Salute 🇺🇸🗽🇺🇸🗽🇺🇸🗽🇺🇸

That house seems so sad! I’m sure the owners loved that house. They just get old and can’t take care of them anymore. It upsets me that someone doesn’t come in and at least keep these old homes up.

So many beautiful items abandoned there. Generations lived in that home. You have to wonder what happened that the generations just disappeared to leave it all behind.

I bet that house was beautiful back in it's day!! The old furniture is awesome! It looks like it was lived in by an elderly person and that the house has been in the family for decades because of the look of the furniture!! I don't know about the Military jackets so I hope somebody can shed some light on it. Wonder if it's World War I or II. Merry Christmas Kappy and be safe out there! Peace, Kim ~

Clues I saw: The lady was a canner and all those crocks she made alot of fermented foods most likely alot of sauerkraut. At one time it looks like she had a very organized house loved the kitchen layout. Saw alot of canning jars and canned foods that never got eaten, sad. Anna In Ohio.

That upstairs was interesting. Judging by the screen door it's almost as if the hall was once a porch. Wonder if it was a place for travelers to stay.

The screen door would have provided air flow so that the upstairs wouldn't be so hot in the summer months. As Kappy said, it was in the 80's in Nov. That's not unusual.
