Question did it matter about your underwear being granny panties? I only wear seamless thongs its the only thing I feel comfortable in unfortunately. Hopefully the type of underwear I pack doesn't matter?? Also I noticed you didn't pack pjs... a few videos I watched people didn't pack their pjs.

@@malibuluv209 Type of underwear didn't matter when I was there! Everyone had different kinds/colors. I packed a pair of joggers to sleep in! We got our uniforms the next day. I know it's different now with ROM!

Good Luck! i graduated back in August then graduated Tech School in the beginning of November! So I am here at my first duty station! Couple of tips.. 1. Spandex are for PT, it's your choice to wear them or not. Still bring them because they will be apart of your wall locker checks but I've honestly only worn them once throughout BMT and they were the short volleyball ones. 2. Zero night, you will get issued a backpack full of everything you need. Notebook, pens, sharpies, high lighters, etc.The next morning that whole day you will be in-processing. You will be issued all your uniforms, shirts, socks, running shoes, etc. I suggest wearing the running shoes that they provide so you don't ruin your own. You should be going to the BX that same day or at least the day after. That is when you can get anything and everything you need for your own personal needs. 3. In the mornings, let's say after PT, you only have 10-15 minutes to get ready (depending on your MTI). BUT that means showering, changing, and doing your hair. (don't forget with 45+ other females as well, LOL) 4. Makeup: Yes, you can put on makeup for your flight photos and your blues photos. however, you cannot wear it for the coin ceremony or for parade. BUT the rest of that weekend you get to spend with your family you ARE allowed to wear makeup as you please. (There is makeup at the BX as well ;) ) MY ADVICE TO YOU: DO NOT GIVE UP!! You joined the military, Air Force, for a reason. Don't let whatever happens at basic stop you from that. Just find something that really motivates you! I've had 4 girls in my flight not make it for weird reasons... Also, Get close with your brother flight if you can, they're funny as hell. BEAST week was super fun, Gas chamber was my FAVORITE! I honestly would do it again. (Not even being sarcastic Lol) If you have ANY questions at all, please feel free to message me!! I wish you the best of luck. When do you leave for Basic?

The first night, you will sleep in civilian clothes because that next day you will go to clothing issue. Every day after that until you graduate, you will sleep in your PT gear because you have PT every morning anyways. (Except Sundays)

Girls in my flight had THONGS!! smh... No they do not have to just be black and white. I wouldn't bring hot pink though. Dark blue, black, white, gray, nude, etc. are great colors. and for the underwear, Stick with the full-coverage though. You don't want to get in trouble.

Hi Brittany! It’s officially 1 week since you left to meps to start your Air Force journey, I know you won’t see this until February but I want to wish you the best of luck! My boyfriend graduated from AF BMT on November 11 and is at tech school right now which is also in Texas, watching your video reminds me of that Sunday night that I was helping him pack his bag, it reminds me of how nervous and emotional that night was. I know your first few weeks will be hard but I promise you it gets better! And for anyone watching and reading this comment, your family will get a few phone calls. I got a phone call when he landed in San Antonio, one about 24 hours later, one on week 4, week 6, and week 7. As long as the whole flight is on good behavior. And make sure you urge your family and friends to write to you as much as possible, at least one letter a day. I want to wish everyone good luck!!! I’m not in the Air Force but my boyfriend is and I know how hard yet rewarding this is! 💗

I just graduated BMT, and am currently in tech school! First of all, good luck! You’ll do amazing! For the shoes, wear the shoes they issue you for all of bmt and for beast!!! Your shoes will get messed up throughout bmt so wear the ones they give you, so comes the airmans run you will have nice shoes to wear! All the toiletries they issue you, use as display and actually use the ones you brought so you don’t have to worry about cleaning them or moving them from your security drawer. I would highly suggest marking all your clothes, like everything. It would be the first initial of your last name and the last four of your social. Mark everything you’re already bringing so you’ll never loose your clothes and so you won’t get it confused with anyone’s!

If you keep the ones they issue you display in your security drawer, where do you store the ones you’re using at? Won’t they check your stuff and everything has to be in order, so where would i put the things I actually use and be able to access them easily if the display ones are in the drawer

BrigitteBlasem at least in the old dorms, you’ll get one drawer, the front part will be the “mandatory items” which will be the ones you display. And the back side of the drawer will be your personal items. They typically don’t care what it looks like as long as everything is neat.

Just a heads up, in case anyone else finds themselves needing brown bobby pins and can't find them- there's a pack of at least 100 at the dollar store! They have black ones too! So you could get 200 bobby pins for $2- it should last you with some extras for BMT. Also, with the updated policy, your hair bands and pins can be black no matter your hair color, though it is *preferred* to be close to your hair color. Good luck everyone!!

I went through and the compression shorts are more comfortable to wear with the pt shorts if you’re uncomfortable with someone potentially seeing you’re underwear when you do sit-ups or something like that. Not required but it’s more of a personal preference

I’ve always wanted to join the Air Force . I can remember in kindergarten drawing fighter jets because I wanted to be a fighter pilot. I had a son right after graduation and to join you have to give up rights to your child or be married. I wasn’t willing to give up rights and I was no longer with my child’s mother. I wish there was another way. This was ten years ago maybe things have changed. I recommend the wet wipes for day to day use but you cannot have them at beast because to many people try to get away without showering. I recommend looking up the backpack initiative and if it's on the list in that bag then don't bring it unless you're picky about brands, bring the compression shorts because the PT shorts you're issued suck without them. You do laundry at beast still as well. I was in the first flight to graduate from the new 8.5 week program so I know the new weeks fairly well, let me know if you have any questions!

Ice Scream Hi there! You can buy compression shorts there, and as for what is issued to you there’s an app called “Air Force delayed entry program” and it has a list of every item in the backpack they give to you. I personally recommend bringing at least 2-3 pairs of pants and shirts, a hairbrush, a spare toothbrush, running shoes (they issue some but they might get ruined at beast), hairties that match your hair and bobby pins, hair gel, extra stamps and envelopes, a lint roller, bring makeup if you wear it because it’s allowed for pictures and graduation, 6 sports bras (you need 6 for beast) at least 6 underwear as well, a couple pairs of socks to wear until first issue as well. Don’t stress about it to much though, and the app also has a good list of items to bring, but you will have more stuff to bring with to tech school after graduation so save a little space in your civilian luggage, good luck! 😁

Hi Thanks for posting this video. I have seen tons of packing videos for bmt and only a couple from female trainees. All of them are fairly similar, but no one ever updates on what items you ended using after all. I see you doubled up on some items and over-packed some just to be safe. Can you do a video update for us on what you actually ended up using from all the items you took? Were you forced toss any of them away? Were you allowed to keep and use your bun 'donut'? Were you allowed access to your makeup for pictures or graduation ceremony? What about your spandex shorts, did you end up using all three or just one? In short, what was the outcome for all the things you packed? Sorry for bombarding you with all these questions, but female input for bmt prep is scarce. Please advise, thanks!

A lot of people in the comment section are asking what they should bring. It's been a few years, but I remember being given a list by my recruiter. Ask for a list BEFORE and bring ONLY what is on that list -- nothing less and nothing more. That will remove the confusion. You can always pick up a few extra things at the BX later. I did Basic Training in 1985! It was difficult but I got through it. I thought the physical part would be the most challenging... but it turned out to be the psychological part! Learn to stay calm and listen to instructions carefully!

Im a guy who grad bmt august 2017, but black compression shorts were allowed without any large logos or color. not sure how military issues female underwear but issued male underwear was so bad pretty much everyone had 3-4 compression shorts to replace wearin underwear. especially since you are going during winter, those compression shorts are a godsend

As for the compression shorts, if it says REQUIRED, why wouldn't bring them? You will receive more grief for not having them during inspections if you leave them at home.

I went through basic a thousand years ago ( 1961 ) and we were given a list of what to take with us to Lackland. You can well imagine our list was quite a bit shorter than yours. What happened to your moleskin? Did you use it? I saw your updated video where you mention, “this is the notebook they give you and this is where I wrote my zero-one week stuff...” Also I looked up those bras and saw that although they hold in place they aren’t good for jogging...? Can you please review if they were any good or what bra you would suggest. No we didn’t PT for the first few days. You’ll get there on a Tuesday and we didn’t have our first PT day until Saturday I think. And we got our ABUs the first full day we were there.
