I really needed this video, thanks! I'll be travelling with more camera gear and not a 2nd computer, but similar ideas apply.

As someone who is in the Apple ecosystem I’m so happy everything is usb c now. I only carry 2 usb c cables, 3 usb c port 120W power brick, and magsafe battery for my phone.

That sounds like a dream! Just need to update my phone and turn my work laptop into a MacBook and I’m yeeting these excess cords out of my travel setup

such a cute informative video, i love seeing how other people pack! i'm a "digital slomad" and also had the issue with needing the extra screen and considered a portable monitor, but didn't want to carry one. so i finally splurged and recently bought a mac w/ a 15" monitor and now i dont even miss the enormous 2nd screen in my home set up. the brick is also TIIIIIIINY, which is great. i dont travel with nearly as much tech as you do, but i do use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, partially because i don't want fingerprints on this expensive ass laptop, but also because i work with data so i need a number key pad. and i also use a roost laptop riser -- something you may find useful for your portable monitor. its the lightest weight one i could find and takes up hardly any space (unfortunately its also the most expensive one i found). so the laptop, keyboard, mouse (which is super flat, i think half an inch high, and NOT made by apple) and riser all fit in the same laptop slot in my backpack. i use silicone bungee cable cord thingies to hold each of my cords together, so the tech bag isn't actually necessary anymore. i honestly hate it because it takes up so much room, when all the individual cords and country adapters could just be shoved into shoes or corners of my suitcase. i also bring a small mousepad, which i forgot at home on my current trip and just picked one up from the dollar store and it's perfect. ok, sorry for the long reply, but you asked! :)

Love the term “digital slomad”! I’ve been known to use any random item I find in an Airbnb to prop up my monitor from books to napkin holders, lol, so maybe a riser might be needed. The bag keeps me accountable so I don’t lose cords while I travel, have you had the struggle of forgetting/losing cords while on the road?

Just saw that you replied! Not usually, since I only tend to have a few cords and I mostly stick them inside a shoe lol. Or I’ll just drop bulkier things, like universal adapter blocks, right in the bottom of my personal item before I pack it, so I know where they are even if I can’t reach them. The saving grace, though, is the bungee ties on the cords, they really corral them and make sure they’re not taking up too much space. Oh, I hope you get the Roost riser if you think it will help, it weighs nothing!😊

Great Video and commentary on your choices. I am graduating to a carry-on bag for domestic travel. For International travel - not quite there yet. I notices you didn't mention any camera gear, lights, or tripod/selfie sticks, or music for the room which would be a JBL speaker. (I still use my IPOD on the plane and room. I did separate my travel cords into their own bag. I do like your monitor idea.

I’ve been working on cutting down my camera equipment because it’s so darn heavy. I upgrade my phone regularly and cut out my Sony ZV-1. Using a DJI mic is super small. My tripod can double as a selfie stick and folds down small enough to go in a water bottle pocket on my personal item. I skip lights and look for bright airbnbs for filming. While I always enjoy when friends and family bring a speaker, I don’t carry one myself.

On the dual monitor situation if you don't already, you can hotkey applications you pin to the taskbar with win+1-9. Dual screen or not it helps enable a keyboard dominant workflow. Imo context switching is where single screen suffers most and using those keybinds relieves it quite a bit.

Oh snaps! That might open up a whole new world for me. Thanks for the suggestion!

I've outgrown my Tech Cord bag. Because I no longer have space for my updated cords, they're put in where they fit in. I don't like that at all. I need to look into the Peak Design Tech Bag. Thank you for making me realize I need to upgrade. Wow, who knew?

I’ve definitely maxed out the space in the Peak Design tech pouch a few times, but it’s usually a good opportunity for me to evaluate how much I’m carrying and if I can edit a few items out
