As a native, i had friends back in the 90's who lived in that same loft building. They had it built out like you can't even believe! So glad to see the old post office going away and something being built in its place. I don't live there anymore, after 47 years I decided to head south to a much sunnier and warmer climate in 2019. I'll always be a Portland boy at heart, and a west side Multnomah Village/Gabriel Park boy at heart, but life has taken me to my new home. Good luck guys. Sad to see you go, but I wouldn't want to live there with the construction that will happen right outside your window, either. I've lived in Portland now 31 years and still love it. My husband and I don't live downtown, though. Our home of 23 years is just north of downtown across the river--it's quiet with lots of trees and greenery. I hate to use the word normal, but we grow up seeing/watching /learning heteronormative couples live happy lives, vacation, make a snowman, bake cookies together, and its nice to see that it happens for gays too. A mixed feeling watching you leave and move from the loft that we all felt was part of our home and life. But also a hopeful move to new memories. My hardest move out of 30+ moves was moving from Rome, 8+ years teaching and archaeological digging, and returning to the States. But life moves on and whether we want it or not...it does. Bittersweet for you guys but a new adventure in Mexico. I'm sorry to see you move but I know the construction noise would really bother me too. I figured out I moved 16 times counting my Army days so I know that feeling when you pack up and move on. I have to say in the end it was all for the best but now since we are older we need to be close to medical facilities and airports and malls, and restaurants; well especially restaurants! I’m an Architect, so I’m really interested/fascinated by people’s attachments to buildings, especially homes! I have so many thoughts, but one thing I’ll say is that as we move from home to home in our lives, we develop some sort of love for each home. When we leave a home, we can leave some of our love there and ALSO take our love (and the physical things that represent our time there- furniture, plants) with us to our next home. So, your path in life is very valuable because you leave a little bit of love behind at each step. Then- when you walk into a new home that happens to be very old, you can probably feel a little bit of love left behind by all of the people there before. What a welcome to a new space! Buildings are just objects waiting to fall down. If we can get comfortable with leaving a little bit of love behind us for the next people, we can feel comfortable knowing that we will be receiving new love the moment we open our new front door. XO

All the best in your new place. For future reference, from someone who has moved way more than you can imagine, it's easiest to just pack one room at a time, and then end with your bedroom. That way all boxes from each room are together so when loading into the truck, you can then unload just as easily and your bedroom and kitchen and bathroom items are the first to come off the truck when arriving at the new place and are easily accessible to start unpacking. Great job. It was heartwarming to see the improvement in Adam's face when he first saw the completed loft after rehab as compared to the way he looked in the flashback to when he was leaving for rehab. The hard work has paid off and will continue to do so. You guys are amazing.

What a wonderful video ode to Portland and your love for each other! You've both changed so much since you moved into your loft. Portland did serve you well. I'm really interested in your next stop - will it be a temporary stop, a long stop or a permanent stop? My husband and I left the San Francisco Bay Area to move to the Big Island of Hawaii so we could enjoy bird song and beautiful open space. When we moved from SF, my husband cried (he hates change since he doesn't like to relearn how to get around places) but I love change! Today, going on six years since we moved, he now refers to Hawaii as "home". I hope you both find your place to call home and be as happy as you can be in the new environment. I'm looking forward to more of your vlogs.
