@PackTactics yep. Just yesterday I think. Has most of the system excluding Heroic classes, Legate and Naval rules along with all of the Racial and class specific Foci introduced in the Atlas of the Latter Earth supplement. Pretty good way to be able to check out the paid content without having to mooch off a friend. Lol

I love WWN A LOT (and SWN too), and am really happy to see it covered. As someone who's played a considerable amount of both and is a huge fan of Kevin's work, I do have to say that his games aren't the best to point to for people who dislike the spellcaster OP thing. The 5e view of martials and spellcasters doesn't quite work for one, as it's the more traditional view of fighters being the best at combat, experts being the best at skills, spellcasters being force multipliers. The whole concept of experts takes some time for dnd 5e players. The primary problem his systems have is that they're balanced technically, but don't feel that way. The other two classes are balanced, but they simply have less options than any spellcaster. Fighters and experts don't really get abilities like spellcasters get, and despite that it's balanced for this, it doesn't feel great if you're an expert in a party with a caster. As a quick example (though SWN, but basically the same problem), we had a pretty decked out party. Our fighter was an absolute chad, could take damage for days, literally could very rarely miss. But his experience was just shoot every time it was his turn. He lacked much else to do. The two experts would just kinda plink and handle most of the skill checks, not really many options to choose from either. But my (partial) telekinetic psychic was as armoured as the fighter, could simply say "no" to some attacks, reflect others back to their owners. It was balanced, my HP and damage was hella low, but it didn't feel that way when in any given situation I could summon walls or platforms, walk over liquids, and absorb tank shells and they could, at best, make a good skill check. That all said, one of my favourite campaigns I've ever DMed was a party of two experts and a fighter.
@PackTactics9 ай бұрын
Our table even when playing 5e try to get surprise every opportunity we can. In WWN, our Expert in the party picked Sniper’s Eye so his Execution Attack is really good. I think he will keep up with everyone else in the party in combat. Here is our party btw: Warrior (me), Warrior/Expert, Expert, High mage/Healer, Accursed/Bard.

Great video! I love learning about Worlds Without Number. It seems like such a cool, streamlined system. It's the perfect of the deadliness and need to think critically to overcome obstacles found in OSR games and the tactical crunchy combat mechanics of 5e. I think the next long campaign I GM for will be in WWM.
@gammalolman5809 ай бұрын
Honestly, the "spell slot" system feels closer to like a 5e warlock system, which is quite nice. I do like that way of handling stuff honestly, even if I know some people just disagree with such system. Either way, this coverage was fun ... Nice to see you covering other games than D&D 5e. I am an old guy and when I look at your video, I am always thinking how back then, we played BECMI D&D and did not seem to have this obession with action economy (you had only 1) and martials being weak. I guess this is the me beeing nostalgic but I would love seeing you optimize BECMI and all the clutter that came with the Gazetters....

I always love seeing other systems like this, usually i note down cool rulings and features for across games. it would be neat to one day see an open source modular RPG “engine” for lack of a better term, where the various rules, items, lore, and what not can be taken from any system, added to any system, and translate any stats needed.

here is my passing comment to help with the algorithm, but that aside i really enjoy your Worlds Without Number series. something to mention is that you didn't talk about the vowed and healer which are only partial mage classes but i guess since they don't have any spellcasting only arts i assume that's why you omitted them, that aside, Great Video!!

I have to admit I'm a little bit cautious about WWN spellcasting. I haven't looked at it, but I did see what Sine Nomine did with spellcasting in Godbound, which followed the Exalted Tradition of 'Impressive but Unwieldy and easily countered, to the point where Counter Spell and Create Minion are pretty much the only spells you should ever bother to learn.' I like Godbound, but I would never play a spellcaster in it. Of course, you don't really need to play a spellcaster to get the spellcaster fantasy; everyone has access to miracles.

I’m very curious about the whole if you take damage you can’t cast a spell this round thing. How effective is the foci for preventing that? How effective are the other actions you can take if you can’t cast a spell?
@PackTactics9 ай бұрын
If you're a full caster and you can't cast your spell or art then your other actions is probably going to be bad because you're a magic man. That's why foci that makes you go first in initiative for example is very good. You get to throw your nuke spell from the start.
