I'm considering Crafter as I convert my 2014 necromancer wizard over to be more in line with 2024. Hear me out... 4 artisan tool proficiencies (3 from feat, one from artisan background) greatly opens up options for the Fabricate spell, which can be used to equip your skeletons from Animate Dead (our DM has skeletons start with no equipment, but allows shortswords, shields, shortbows and crossbows, and medium armor). Buying raw materials worth 50% of the value of the finished product, and using Fabricate with woodcarvers tools, smiths tools, leatherworkers tools, etc can greatly reduce the cost of equipping a skeletons army... and that's before the 20% discount that's an additional bonus of the feat. The 20% discount is also always going to be good for any wizard, to acquire materials to add spells to spellbook, or to scribe scrolls (my understanding is that scrolls are magical, but the materials to create them are nonmagical)

Ok, but spells like revivify explicitly state they consume the 300g worth of crystals needed for the cast, whereas summon beast and summon fey only state that you need a component worth 200 and 300g respectively, without mentioning that the item will be consumed. A simple interpretation would be that you only need to pay the cost once and then cast the spells over and over for free

Depends on what the goal of the game is. As a building block, this is great. It allows more concepts for players and DMs to explore. As part of game balance, not so good. But easily solved by DM telling players they’re getting ridiculous. If players want to make the game purely about making broken characters, that can be fine, but DM can still veto stuff. Worst part for me is just that it doesn’t look like the intent. The effect is called “mask.” That implies it effects perception only. To me, the in game reason “hold person” only effects humanoids isn’t because the spell is identifying targets. It’s because it lacks the capability to effect others. Something that fundamentally changes a being should be higher up on slot levels.

Hallow and microwave only works if the microwave is the same size as hallow, otherwise the creature could still teleport inside the area and outside the microwave.

The issue here is obviously not magic aura, but suggestion. The intended use case for magic aura allowing players to dodge humanoid only spells or hide items from detection magic is powerful but not obscenely so. Preemptive protections spells are common. I have used magic aura to hide from divination magic after encounters with hostile mages and my dm told me after that because i didnt show up as in the city from locate creature they assumed i fled, which gave me a massive upper hand and won us the next fight agaisnt that mage. That sort of thing is the intended use case, not binding dragons.

I feel like this video is going along the lines that the dm agrees to everything if it’s in the rules. I rarely find tables that run everything raw

It’s a pretty sweet 1 level dip for non dark vision races who need heavy armor and shields especially.

It was not a mistake >:). If i wanted the martial to have an easy time with that encounter i would not have used it. If i pick a monster that has counter spell i did not add it to make the casters life easier.

there is something slightly funnier you can do with Nystuls and that's use the Awaken spell on anything with intelligence 3 or less, just like planar binding though you'll need a steady supply of 1000 GP gemstones lying around, but if for some reason one of your allies has 3 int you can use this combo to raise their up to 10 with the low low price of 1000 gp agate, or run around using it on random low int creatures.

Genie splendor is great because it's not a formula, it's a bonus like bladesinger, but it stacks with a shield... If you get dragon sorc u have double cha to AC! At high levels this can really pile up, esp if you get 22+ charisma and build dex pally sword and board.

But Kobold!, now we know about Nystul's magical aura! Have you sink to a new evil level?

My favorite use of _NMA_ is to change your type to an outsider (an Aberration, a Celestial, an Elemental, a Fey, or a Fiend) and cast _Banishment_ on yourself. Low level planar travel. "The target is instead transported to a random location on a plane (DM’s choice) associated with its creature type."

If you Forbiddance your base and hit an enemy with this (after a Suggestion), then it essentially makes the area into a constant damage source.

I think it's common sense that if someone's doing a hyper-specific spell combo, you can either let it because boy howdy are they making an effort with several mid-high level slots, or say no. That's a given. Conversely, Dispel Magic and Anti-Magic fields exist, so....

My Evocation Wizard took a two level dip into Fighter. Not only did it get me *ACTIONSURGEFIREBALLS,* I got armor proficiency, allowing me to equip a Chain Shirt we found that gives me resistance to poison and acid damage, and a once-a-day advantage on a save vs being poisoned. Don't need to remember Mage Armor anymore!

I think I would still let my players run this, but only if they used it once or *maybe* twice in an entire campaign. But if the players started seeing this as a hammer and every problem as a nail I would remind them actions have consequences, and pissing off the All Powerful Cosmic Entity that renders the very fabric of reality into being is not a great way to ensure their continued existence.

I had a lich for a one shot that had disguised himself as a human and masked with Nystul. Pretending to be a priest of kelemvor, he would quietly create undead monstrosities in the very catacombs of the city's elite.

Easy fix, just rule you can't force someone to "be willing" be it with a spell or by any other means. No one should have a problem with this.

In my games I think I would allow Nystul’s with the exception that it only affects spells that Seek to Know your creature type. Makes it a good villain spell or disguise spell for the party to be sneaky. That is unless I’m forgetting another spell that hides alignment/Creature type.

The combo lets you punch above your weight in spell abilities, but that doesn't mean you can take punches from that weight class. Sure you managed to Magic Jar a dragon, but even the body without a soul resists any soul more fragile than its own. And what jar could hope to hold a dragon forever? Now you have a player whose body resists them, causing searing mental anguish and confusion, and a very angry dragon leaking out of a flimsy vessel like cherynobyl in a mcdonalds bag. Needless to say, making your PC a dragon takes them out of that players direct control. Congrats, you leveled yourself out of the story. Also you just made the next big conflict.

I used to spell to make the acts of the dwarvish lords think that the dullahan I have taken command of with my level 14 necromancer ability is a dwarf so he can get all its goodies. 😅 love this spell

I gotta love how everyone always complained about ranger until they reworked them and even then people thought they were weak but at least they had a nice flavor niche and worked pretty well in specific types of games. But when they made their new edition that allowed them to patch up the class they looked down on it, loaded their gun and shot its kneecaps with hunter marks.
