Not necessarily a powerful combo due to how it functions, but animate dead and demiplane could be hysterical. Build a scaffold in your demiplane so that you can utilize the vertical space and you could fit up to 216 undead in there. They don’t even need to be controlled. Just open the demiplane and let your enemies deal with the flood pouring out.

@@carsonrush3352 the DM would probably be a bit frustrated when the party just sets up a wall of thorns by the door. Now if they wanted to be really evil, glyph of warding + geas. Set enough of that pair up and potentially charm the entire party before they even get into the boss’s chamber.

My GM always let us get away with crazy stuff but there was a warning attached; "Overpowered effects gain the attention of overpowered entities". We would do things like roll a d100 when resurrecting someone to see if a Marut shows up. The more times that person was resurrected the greater the odds. For summoning the elementals the first one would not have a risk but each additional one would have a higher and higher chance of gaining the notice of an elemental lord. Needless to say that once that happens things get interesting real fast. We had a player try the Infinite Simulacrum trick and Mystra didn't take too kindly to that bit of shenaniganry. It gave us a lot of freedom but we also knew that if pushed it too far we were toast.

This combo doesn't work. The creature has to attempt to pass through Prismatic Wall in order to suffer the negative effects. If you force someone through with Reverse Gravity, then they aren't *attempting* anything.

Each player throws the next one through the wall "unwillingly" and the final player gets pulled through with a rope "unwillingly" With this the idea of the "wall" is pointless

For #4, Pandaniel recommends combing Wall of Force 1in off the ground with Private Sanctum. Basically impossible for the enemy to attack back while the team spams firebolts.

Spike growth and Thorn whip from a druid and Repelling blast from a Warlock. Ping-pong enemies back and forth through damaging difficult terrain. On the plus side the spells remain good outside of the combo as well so its a safe thing to try and see if you like. Very basic but still good

Do keep in mind that both of those spells require concentration. Another option is to combine Web with Rime's Binding Ice. It ensures that opponents will stay stuck in the web for as long as possible.

@@Gone2Dream I use my combo with an artificer and his familiar. Once an artificer is 11th level, he can imbue an item with an artificer spell so that any creature can cast the spell as an Action. I tie the item, a sling, around my familiar so it can cast _web_ for me. Then I can drop _Tasha's caustic brew_ on the same enemies.

Another combo would be Magic Jar + Imprisonment. Magic Jar into a creature, then Minimus Containment your comatose body with the condition to end as “when my soul wishes to enter the imprisoned body.” Repeat infinitely. Essentially, this turns you into a raid boss with a feasibly unending number of phases. When your first body is running low on hit points, you use your action to return to your most recent Magic Jar, and the host body’s soul returns to its body, most likely getting killed by your enemies. You then use your action on a later turn to enter your Imprisoned body (which could itself be a victim of another Magic Jar), releasing it from Minimus Containment. Repeat infinitely.

I initially theorized glyph of warding + demi plane while wracking my brain for hours trying to plan out how to use Time Stop effectively in combat. You could time stop, demiplane, walk all over the glyphs, have every spell buff in the game (Fly, Blur, Haste, Tasha's Guise, longstrider, Guardian of Nature, the list continues...) then just one round later cast your *actual concentration spell. Would be fun with Bladesinger. Shit I remember the days of Treantmonk talking about whether or not Planar Binding overrode the concentration for things like Conjure Elemental... whether or not it does by itself, Glyph of warding/Magic Circle/ was a way around it but adding Private Sanctum is a super interesting tech.

A great microwave that can be done early on with a Warlock and a Druid in your party is Hunger of Hadar + Entangle or Web. Hunger of Hadar guarantees damage without a saving throw on top of basically making your enemies unable to sense anything outside of the spell, and of course there is a saving throw to take even more damage. And then the other spell of course holds the enemies in place so that they can't walk out of it. I was in a party once that totally destroyed an encounter against a lot of enemies by hitting them with this combo. Also, while this isn't really a spell combo, having a Rogue in your party and casting literally anything that gives your teammates advantage is extremely powerful. Things that give your team advantage are really good in general, but they should be a priority if you have a Rogue in the party. You will not find a faster friend.

Advantage is one of those things that is just always nice to have. Either mechanically for the doubling of crit chance, near removal of nat 1s, and the sneak attack for rouges. Or just the feels good of your attacks having a much lower chance of missing completely. In my current game as a druid i try and open with Faerie Fire, although sometimes i have to wait for the enemies to advance and clump up for me. (This is motivated by consistent bad rolls by the spell casters on our attack spells.)

This was only one spell, but our group has a different tactic they call the brain microwave, and it wasn't something they did, it was something I did to them So the party consists of 3 barbarian multiclasses, a rogue/bard, and a paladin, they were level 7 at the time and fighting the boss (a 13th level red wizard.... I didn't actually give him class levels but he had 7th level spells and 13 hit die so I'm calling him 13th level). With two star spawn hulks as minions, the 4 martials all decided to flank this one hulk after the red wizard dimension doored into the next room (120 feet away with line of sight).... So I move both hulks into position, then cast synaptic static. The barbarians of course fail their int save, and the hulks willingly fail their int save.... Well star spawn hulks have this ability called psychic mirror which reflects psychic damage to all targets within 10 feet of them and are immune to psychic damage themselves. So they're taking a -1d6 to their attack rolls every turn for the rest of combat, but all 4 martials drop to 0 and one of the barbarians is killed outright by taking triple PSYCHIC damage.... The party ended up murderizing the wizard in a particularly gruesome fashion but they still talk about the dreaded "brain microwave" to this day.... This happened about a year ago.

A simple but fun combo is wrathful smite + booming blade. Both can be cast in the same turn, cast wrathful smite first, then booming blade since a melee attack is included with the booming blade spell. Wrathful smite will cause the creature to be frightened, and so will move willingly away and trigger booming blade's booming effect for added damage. Its a fun way to make stone sorcerer a more melee focused class

Since being frightened in other media/games causes units to run away, we assumed thats what it does 😅 Oh well, at least every smite spell can combo with booming blade. Booming Staggering Smite at lv11 is WeaponAttack+4d6+2d8(+3d8)+STR for 45-50 damage. Roughly stronger than 6th level spell chain lightning if they move but with the added bonus of causing opponets disadvantage, and only consuming a 4th level spell slot. Theres even enough room to paladin or fighter dip so you can add divine smite for more damage or action surge for another attack/booming blade cantrip in the same turn 😁

@@mlmf2012 It's not an uncommon interpretation! When I dm, I do tend to move frightened enemies away if they can do so safely. The rub is if the enemy is smart enough to realize an effect like booming blade, or anything that would hurt them if they moved, or not.

For Maze + Sanctum a dm could possibly have the previous foe they trapped come out when the spell combo is cast again and have them come out stronger (around current party level) for an interesting event. How this happens is up to the DM of course but perhaps they found something after being trapped in the maze for so long.

if you want some specific spell combos Dungeon Dudes has got 2 videos on it i realy love having suped up undead so one of the spell combos they suggested fits the bill, its nicknamed Trench Warfare, it brings in Cloud Kill with Zombies, throw in a gunline of skeletons and now you have the makings of some WW1 terror for your enemies (or a nasty surprise for your villains to use against the players)

Not a spell combo perse, but a while ago a friend was play testing a homebrew class I made in a campaign I was DMing, and one of the features was the ability to create walls in combat (it was basically waterbending). Well when they were fighting an assassin, they made the walls, then proceeded to use one of the demon summoning spells and brought out a Bulgura to create what the players called The Thunderdome. It was a creative and funny enough combo I allowed it

Not necessarily the most broken combo but does some work. You need anyone who is proficient with a bow and the spell Heat Metal. Provide your Archer with metal arrows and ready the spell Heat Metal for when the arrow is let loose. BOOM red hot metal arrow that applys DoT until (and if the target can reach it) the target pulls it out. Fire damage every round plus disadvantage.

for that #1 combo, I played a wizard in a level 20 game where we got artifacts, so I took the Demonomicon of Iggwilv from TCoE. 8 charges: 3 for summon fiend (normally concentration for 1 hour), 2 for planar binding (cast on a fiend from the Demonomicon it counts at 9th level). just make sure to always save 1 charge to take a long rest in a magic circle naming only fiends and you never get possessed as you build your army of fiends all under your control for the next year. I only summoned one since it was a one shot but it was still super fun having a 6th level summon concentration free

sorlock with repelling blast, grasp of hadar, and whirlwind. Triggers the initial 10d6 damage when it first engulfs a creature; on later rounds you can knock them out with repelling blast [for eldritch blast + fall damage, attack made with advantage if restrained] and then suck them back in -either with a grasp of hadar or by action moving the whirlwind if there's multiple targets to retrigger the damage

The issue with using Maze in #2 is that they can attempt to escape every 6 seconds with a DC20 Intelligence check. So they need to fail 100 checks where as long as they do not have a negative modifier to intelligence, they have at least a 5% chance to succeed. With a +0 to the check, they'll escape the maze 99.5% of the time before your Private Sanctum finishes.

In our latest session, we encountered two tiger like beings that were immune to spells and non-magic weaponry. Forcing my war cleric to go martial, imagine my surprise to find out that my strikes specifically were dealing double damage to them. I was also the only good aligned pc in our group. Yup. I realized we were fighting Rakshasas. Most of the group was annoyed about the good vulnerability and their spell immunity up to 6th level, but tbh, the Barbarian was still dealing more dpr than I was with her Great Weapon Master. Plus our assassin got a lot of decent hits in before I went into melee.

I thought that casting a spell with a casting time longer than one action counts as concentration, so the maze private sanctum should not work, since maze would end as you would start casting private sanctum. However Im not sure

Thats why he says you need Acane Abayence or Wish, to cast it with only an action. You could also set up a glyph of warding with Private Sanctum inside some extradimensional space. When you pull the object out of the space and throw it the glyph will trigger. You can do that immediately after using Maze. But wish is the more straightforward method. And Arcane Abayence is the aaaaaaaa why is this feature real method

Here is my combo: Lance of Lethargy EB + Ray of Frost + Handful of Caltrops = -30 movement speed ( 0 movement for many enemies) for the cost of 2 Cantrips and a gold piece. If you’re afraid of missing some attack rolls, then find way to give the Cantrips advantage, or keep enough distance to kite for a turn or two. Mage hand or Unseen Servant makes caltrops easier to land, and chill touch stops the enemy from healing their feet once slowed.

One combo I've come to enjoy is a summoning spell (I like animate dead) with a control spell. Put down a web and give all your summons advantage on attack rolls. Cast levitate on a melee fighter and leave them helpless against volleys of arrows from skeletons.

About the #2 demiplane you create can be accessed by anyone who know the nature and contents of it so with enough information the creature can be easily released by anyone with the access to this spell. Alternatively someone could just cast gate and stay the name of the creature.

I was pretty proud of myself after a Baldur's Gate 3 encounter where I threw down Hunger of Hadar, Evard's Black Tentacles on top of the darkness, then Wall of Fire across the whole thing. Slap those down in a choke point and everything will die before it can reach you.

teamwork combo: elemental bane + flame arrows + skeleton animate dead minions. Pair it with Flames of P... feat to reroll those pesky 1's. On a hit, each skeleton is dealing 4d6+2+prof* damage each round [base level flame arrows creates 12 shots] * prof mod bonus if Necromancy wizard. Also if one of these casters targets the creature with hexblade's curse, there's another prof mod damage for each attack activation.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you can also do the plane shift trick while being inside of the genie lamp considering it states that it's an extradimensional space. At 10th level you can bring up to 5 willing creatures with you inside but they get kicked out as soon as you yourself leave it

But I can see having a dead 8th lvl spell (as you wont return to the demiplane after its casted) than a near dead subclass which would happen if you use the genie warlocks vessel for this trick. Allow me to recommend Sanctuary + Spirit Guardians. If you cast SG then sanctuary next turn or via chronurgy wizard then you can spam dodge. It's good for those with neither skill nor strategy

One that's more of a world building combo is Wall of Stone + Stone Shape + Fabricate. 1-3 spellcasters could build a city with a month or less of downtime. My Sorcadin Tabaxi used Wall of Stone in this way and built a mansion of Stone in 2 days, and then mason's tools to craft doors, windows and furniture.

Simulacrum + Sequester - Sim doesn’t require sight, so if you know it, and can cast it as a scroll, your sim can then target you after you’ve rested, and regained that spell slot. Given available resources, infinite friends as soon as level 13.

I'm partial to combos that work with find steed, especially when you have an order domain cleric dip and these combos come with free attacks from your mount. I like armor of Agathys and aid plus find steed to make you and your steed have some staying power. With order domain one lots of spells take on new uses including the often overlooked divine favor which goes from underrated to a very efficient use of a first level spell slots for damage.

My fave is a bard doing Find Greater Steed, Regeneration and Tensers Transformation with the mounted combatant feat. Because it's a automatic twin spell of any "self" targetting spell it can get super silly fast.

ok, but that first one, would be the best thing ever to send towards an enemy or hated rival for a druid. polymorph a strong creature into a bird, cast animal messanger and set the target to the rival, and release it within just under an hour's flight. bonus points if you set the the message "____ sends their regards." and then, let the chaos ensue as the polymorph drops

Suggestion with Tongues and Speak with animals vastly expands what creatures it will work on. Augury is theoretically the perfect insurance against a Wish spell going badly. "Will I still be able to use the wish spell after using the wish spell to wish for something other than an 8th level spell or lower?" And as long as you cast the Wish spell in the next 30 minutes that augury can predict, you should know if it's safe to do or not. A lot of DMs might say that this falls under the "you cast another spell" except the question being asked is specifically ABOUT that spell, so it's not an extra magical deviation from expectations. Alternatively, they might go "well, it's all up to a roll, so no way to know what that would be" except there totally is; you roll ahead of time, and if the player goes through with casting wish within the next 30 in-game minutes, then you apply the value you already rolled. Once outside those 30 minutes, the roll goes back to being undetermined. Animal Messenger combined with Illusory Script and Beast sense could allow you to send a message telling someone to read the note, have the note designed so only the intended recipient can read it, tell them in the note to show the animal messenger around, and see through that messenger using beast sense to get an almost unlimited response. Find Familiar with Misty Step while seeing through your familiar's eyes can theoretically allow for teleporting through walls.

I’m playing a hexblade bard multiclass and I’m thinking about choosing the college of Lore subclass so I can take Find Greater Steed, Spirit Guardians and Spiritual Weapon with my magical secrets.. The idea is fly with my pegasus on top of the enemies while shooting Eldritch Blasts and my spiritual weapon… maybe not as powerful as the microwave combo, but I could do it by my self… I want to know your thoughts

A character built around doing a one person Warding Bond/Tethered Essence combo. The Ultimate Healer - Versatility of full Wizard spellbooks, lots of rituals and alpha level healing. Glyph of Warding and Life Domain magic with that Goodberry on top. The Warding Bond/Tethered Essence Combo in one person who gets Spell Mastery on Healing Word/Wither and Bloom as a capstone. (Because infinite castings of Goodberry via Spell Mastery is a line too far... or is it? The famine ender. Just put Goodberry as the Strixhaven Initiate selection and move healing word to the Druid spell selections.) Mark of Healing Halfling Witherbloom Student Circle of Stars Druid 2 Theurgy/Domain of Life Wizard 18 Strixhaven Initiate/Witherbloom Magic Initiate/Cleric Divinely Favored Ritual Caster/Cleric Int 1st, Wis 2nd, Dex/Cha 3rd. Divine Inspiration - Life Domain Disciple of Life - Whenever you use a spell of 1st level or higher to restore hit points to a creature, the creature regains additional hit points equal to 2 + the spell's level. Preserve Life - As an action, you present your holy symbol and evoke healing energy that can restore a number of hit points equal to five times your cleric(Wizard) level. Choose any creatures within 30 feet of you, and divide those hit points among them. This feature can restore a creature to no more than half of its hit point maximum. You can't use this feature on an undead or a construct. Blessed Healer - When you cast a spell of 1st level or higher that restores hit points to a creature other than you, you regain hit points equal to 2 + the spell's level. Supreme Healing - When you would normally roll one or more dice to restore hit points with a spell, you instead use the highest number possible for each die. For example, instead of restoring 2d6 hit points to a creature, you restore 12. Starry Form - As a bonus action, you can expend a use of your Wild Shape feature to take on a starry form, rather than transforming into a beast. This form sheds bright light in a 10-foot radius and dim light for an additional 10 feet. The form lasts for 10 minutes. It ends early if you dismiss it (no action required), are incapacitated, die, or use this feature again. - Chalice: A constellation of a life-giving goblet appears on you. Whenever you cast a spell using a spell slot that restores hit points to a creature, you or another creature within 30 feet of you can regain hit points equal to 1d8 + your Wisdom modifier. Regain Wildhshape uses with a short or long rest. Healing Touch - as an action you can spend a Hit Die to heal yourself or another creature you are touching. Roll the the die and add Wis modifier and the target recovers that many Hit Points. Once you use this you cannot do so again until finishing a short or long rest. Medical Intuition - add 1d4 Intuition die to Medicine checks. The outcome is that all spell based hp recovery does max rolls +2 +Spell level healing to target, and an additional 2 +Spell level to self, and while in Starry Form an additional target heals 8 +Wis Mod +2 +Spell level if the spell consumes a slot. This makes a Warding Bond and Tether Essence combo that much more impressive. Also has Channel Arcana to provide a +2 to spell save DCs for those rare offensive spells. SPELL SELECTION Will only have 17 spell selections to make from the Cleric spells list via standard level progression, and must complete the Life Domain auxillary spell list before going outside of that list. So will use Wizard spell selections to learn the Clerical spells off of the Witherbloom auxillary spell list to shorten what is needed from the Life Domain requirement. Also, the five druid spells will focus on selections that are also on the Life Domain list, as will the spells selected through backgrounds and feats. Will end with 25+ Cleric spells normally not available to Wizards. Mark of Healing Halfling provides Spare The Dying cantrip. Star Druid provides Guidance cantrip and Guiding Bolt Spell with Prof worth of bonus castings. Druid class spell selections provides Goodberry, Cure Wounds, Speak with Animals, Create Water, and Purify Food and Drink. Feats 0 - Strixhaven Initiate = Chill Touch, Druidcraft, Healing Word(with bonus casting) 6 - Magic Initiate/Cleric = Word of Radiance, Sacred Flame, Shield of Faith(with a bonus casting) 10 - Ritual Caster/Cleric = Ceremony, Detect Poison 14 - Divinely Favored = Thaumaturgy, Sanctuary(with a bonus casting), Augury(with a bonus casting) 18 - Chef/Gourmund* Spells 2× Druid Cantrips = Resistance, Produce Flame 5× Wizard Cantrips = Create Bonfire, Control Flames, Mending, Mage Hand, Prestidigitation 5 (out of 23) Wizard spell selections from the Witherbloom list = Lesser Restoration, Wither and Bloom, Revivify, Death Ward, Greater Restoration 5 (out of 17) Theurgy Cleric spells selections to complete the Life Domain list = Beacon of Hope, Mass Cure Wounds, Spiritual Weapon, Guardians of Faith, Raise Dead 12 Remaining Theurgy spell selections = Aura of Vitality, Aura of Purity, Holy Aura, Warding Bond, Mass Healing Word, Heal, Mass Heal, Regenerate, Resurrection, Prayer of Healing, Aid, Temple of the Gods 18 remaining Wizard spells selections = Tether Essence, Dispell Magic, Remove Curse, Gentle Repose, Counter Spell, Slow, Silvery Barbs, Dissonant Whispers, Hypnotic Pattern, Shield, Misty Step, Haste, Suggestion, Simulacrum, Wish, Faithful Hound, Animate Objects, and Glyph of Warding Further Wizard spells and rituals can be gained the usual ways. Recieves Herbalists Kit proficiency twice, exhange one instance for Alchemists Supples, it suits the healer and halfling herbalist concept perfectly. The last feat can provide a third tool in Cooks Utensils via either Chef or Gourmund(pick one). Again, complimentary to the concept. Four languages at start. Suggest those that help the most with sagely Theurge research or helping the common people. Common, Halfling, Sylvan, Celestial Six skills, Nature, Survival, Arcana, Religion, Perception, Stealth Prior to long rests will spend slots on Goodberry and storing what other spells can be into Glyphs of Warding. Will try to conserve spell slots as much as possible, as they fuel the Starry Form bonus that's essential in hard fights. So will gather and horde curative items and anything that permits the casting of healing magics like scrolls or even some wands. With a breastplate and shield there is a solid AC available from the beginning. Obvious character goals from level 1 start with finding a copy of the Find Familiar spell, a Bag of Holding and Boots of Elven Kind. Another clear goal is collecting of unknown ritual spells, allowing for more ways to be of use. Access Wizard, Cleric and Druid rituals. Will seek attunable items such as a divine shield, robes that can be worn over a breastplate, a staff with incredible spell-like powers, all of which would be prefered to have healing focused powers. BONUS - Hunting down a magic item from 2e that was called The Manual of the Mad Surgeon. It was a spell book and focus meant for necromancers, and in it's wording it said something like "add your Int bonus to any healing caused by your use of wizard spells". Well Theurgists' spells are wizard spells after all. Infinite Goodberry at 9HP each...

I've been meaning to ask, you talk a lot about spells that need saving throws, but enemies always seem to have such high plusses to saves, i find they rarely fail. So it sucks when high level stuff like polymorph fail and i waste the spell slot and turn. So what's some ways to mitigate that?

First, burn through legendary resistances. Then use class features such as unsettling words, heightened spell, portent, and restore balance. Spells like bestow curse, mind sliver, bane, and silvery barbs also come in handy. Creatures who are stunned, sleeping, paralyzed, and petrified auto fail dex saves, and restrained creatures have disadvantage on dex saves; pair those conditions with the disintegrate spell for carnage.

max your spellcasting mod, you aren't as dependent on feats as martials. If you're frustrated that your spells don't do anything try spells that still have an effect if they save. Finally certain subclasses can fuck with enemy saves

Most of the good spells that require saving throws hit multiple creatures, so the goal is for at least some to fail. You generally don't want to hit a single target with save or die unless you have enough slots to burn on it.

11:16 yeah, sorry but when I DM, if different casters of these two, then nearest unoccupied, if same caster, make an arcana check DC 8+the combined level of the spells to keep threads of the weave from tangling and the creature appearing inside the sanctum as if it had been given permission.

Today I soloed a whole encounter and killed 8 bufferd minions + 1 powerful lieutenant of the BBEG with a Sickening Radiance and Wall of Force combo. I'm the only wizard in my party, and I wanted to do this as a combo with someone, and being a Chronurgy wizard I made a Arcane Abeyance, loaded it up with a Sickening Radiance spell, but none of my team mates wanted to use it. I ended up giving it to one of the animated skeltons I had form a previous fight. We managed to sneak up on the enemy and my skeleton buddy was able to use the spell and cover their whole team, we roll initiative after this, I go 3rd, I got 2 allies before me, both playing melee focused build and were not able to approace the enemy, ortherwise they laso get hit by the Sickening Radiance, so they just prepared an attack in case any of the enemies got out. On my turn I casted Wall of force, managed to cover the whole enemy group, 2 of them were able to make it out on their turn, but and the rest got stuck in the microwave.

This isn’t exclusively spells but I played as a paladin and one of the other characters was a grave cleric. They made an enemy vulnerable to all the next attack damage and I cast blinding smite and hit a level 3 divine smite…. Suffice to say we one shot Auril’s first form

Magic Jar/polymorph, plus clone. Takes a few days but lets you have a monster race and class levels combined. Adding clone to the mix means when you die it is truely your new form. It cant be dispelled once completed.

It is unclear wether or not you retrain your abilities via true polymorph. With regular polymorph it is even less clear if you can do the combo. Then there is the problem with clone as you need to set it up within a glyph and this is very high lvl and I would even say suboptimal. This combo is way more sinister with simulacrum allowing your wizard to puppeteer the tarrasque if you want.

this is interesting and hilarious, I personally think that a good combo is eldritch blast w/ repelling blast combined with any spell that is an AOE and lasts for a while (spike growth, prismatic wall, etc.)

I prefer Casting Spirit Guardians and on my next turn casting Fireball while people are inside its radius. If you're a light domain cleric or a College of Lore Bard, (Since you can get 2 spells from any class list at 6th level) this gets a decent amount of damage off for a few turns until you run out of spell slots. It's not the most optimal, but it works. Just make sure your allies aren't nearby.

If you're an Astral Elf Wizard, you can use Sacred Flame and Wall of Force to make what I call the Slow Cooker, without relying on anyone else for setup and saving spell slots.

About polymorph+animal messenger: AM would end when Pm does, because the creature is now ineligible to be targeted by it. So it would only fly away for 1h. That might be enough for you purposes though.

@@pandanielxd I was pretty sure Sage Advice made that clarification. But now I looked it up and it is rather murky. JC tweeted "No longer being a valid target trumps condition carryover.", but MM said otherwise. So yeah YMMV. Would say "common sense" but it is a cheese combo anyway...

Melee interrupts people trying to use aoes like fireball since they can catch you in the blast. Monsters usually have disastrous short range effects which can be mitigated by gaining some distance like shadows, rock grubs, etc. Alot monsters also can only operate in melee which means trying to melee them is essentially playing into their strengths. Lastly if the enemy has any sort of distance from you a melee character is forced to chase them down, which be an be a problem if there’s say a cliff or other barrier in between you and them. Or the enemy just plain outruns the melee user. A ranged user has less of these problems since they can stand farther away before they are out of attack range. And even if the melee character gets into the ranged characters face, effects that induce saving throws still work on them with no penalty.

@James Keller my table uses the original booming blade from SCAG which has a 5 foot range and doesn't need s weapon that costs a silver piece. It was rewritten in Tashas and its just worse now

at very high level I think polymorph and power word kill should instantly kill anything because it is an instant death effect instead of a damaging effect, flesh to stone might also be very effective in a situation like that.

i remember i liked using shape water to make a ball of ice and another ball of ice than use light on the ball of ice. than make another ball of ice around that ball using shape water again and color all but one part black to not let the light out. after that use mage hand to carry the light so you are no longer a target. none of it is concentration with only a need to recast mage hand. in other words a flying flashlight with magic.

A suggestion I have for Polymorph+ Animal Messenger is, be careful who you send the polymorphed creature to. Animal Messenger states the message is delivered in your voice. If you want someone to incriminate themselves and admit to wrongdoing, make sure they don't go to a city you've been to where someone might recognize your voice.

Exactly why would you go out of the way to get a melee only cantrip (Shillelagh) if you weren't explicitly intending being in melee. "Melee happens" isn't really a good reason. It might have been better to call this a "I want to melee but don't want to be a hexblade" option.

Animal Messenger specifies that a target beast acts according to the spell. When Polymorph ends, so does Animal Messenger.

There should at least be one feeble mind or glibness combo somewhere in the video. Like feeble mind and literally any save or suck spell especially zone of truth can come in clutch if it is available as it is guarantee truthful answers without killing a target. Also glibness with dispel magic/ counter spell is game ending against any spell caster. Also a fun combo you can set up is darkness continual flame cast at 3th lvl which when comboed with a flashlight can create a way better darkness devil sight combo because no other party member needs to invest in any combo relevant stuff (other than the druid for one long rest to get the continual flame going) stoping hardcounters to the party right then and there.

My players used demiplane+glyph of warding to stack every buff available onto all party members. Glad we were using roll20, would have been impossible to roll their damage on dnd beyond or with physical dice.

It's not a combo, but my absolute favorite thing to do is leave a telegram or some other written message for someone that simply reads "Today I prepared Explosive Runes." Bonus points if it's just a harmless piece of paper to witness their momentary terror.
