Totally amazing who will behave that dog is sitting there and not making a sound or budging with all the dogs barking and the people talking loud!

Hi. I recently came across your videos and they've been super helpful!! I'm currently conditioning my Golden Retreiver to the tools I'll be using to do her nails. It's taken me over 2 months just to handle her paws so I'm going slow and being patient. I'm wondering what clippers you would suggest for doing the pads of her feet. Thank you!!!

I like the Bravura, which uses the 5-in-1 detachable blade. There should be links in that video description. I don’t have anything to compare it to though so there may be cheaper options that will serve your purpose. Whatever clippers you use, I recommend using a very short blade or blade setting when working to shave the pads. #40 or #30. Thanks for watching!

Would you please do a video showing your handling techniques? How firm or gentle to be when bathing/drying/grooming a difficult dog?

Here are a couple videos I already have that might help… Holds for dremeling a tiny dog’s nails (who happens to be pretty grumpy): kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKqlnHx8pJWkpZI Holds for dremeling a small dog’s nails: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4jHk2Vuo9x3p8U And finally, puppy’s first nail trim: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rn-8c56hhaedgKM I’ll start brainstorming a video about handling techniques. Thanks for the idea!

I just recently came across your videos and each one has been very informative. Especially the ones on using a Dremel to trim nails. 3 out of the 4 dogs in my house are shedders. 1 Husky, 2 wolf/Husky hybrids. Mine (the husky) is the one I'm 'concerned' about. I want to be able to trim the paw fur and her nails. Mostly the nails as she is a jumper. My main question is - How do you handle a very [insert uncooperative word here] dog? I have not yet found any of your videos that mention that. I can hold her front paws for a few seconds (literally) and her back paws for even less time, she yanks them out of my hand. Am I going to have to hog tie her down? Get a drug to make her sleepy so that she won't move? (Last 2 comments are meant as jokes, lol). Any info on how to safely (for both of us) do this?

So this is a topic that I will make more videos on, but I am cautious because I am not a behavioral expert on dogs. I know my own instincts when working personally with a dog. I don’t know exactly how to be a consultant for others having issues. But, I may be able to point you in some helpful directions: search terms that should guide your research: desensitization, counter conditioning. Check out Susan Garrett’s Pedicure Please video on KZbin. I know you’re talking about pad shaving but it’s similar concepts and much of the dremel counter conditioning can be applied to paw holding and pad shaving with clippers. I do have one video about desensitization that may help if you haven’t already come across it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gny2ZnmPi8uSgtE

Here are a couple vids with more “difficult” dogs, although it’s nails instead of pads. One this vid, jump to 9min13sec to see me start the front paws where he gets fussy: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4jHk2Vuo9x3p8Usi=V4cAFzvugD6QBsP9 And this one is longer so you’ll have to jump through it yourself, but Casper was a grouchy older dog with arthritis so he was always pulling away! kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIfHYo2ubLB5e7csi=0DIeRsRIH6t07UBE

I also like to smooth the nails off with a white buffer like humans use. Only takes a few seconds let nail & makes a big difference in how smooth they feel after shortening them.

Question 🙋‍♀️ you do nails & pads before or after the bath? Thanks for the video!
@GoodDogGrooming
@GoodDogGrooming 2 жыл бұрын
I personally prefer to do nails before the bath. It’s somewhat of a curtesy to the bather and dryer working at our shop not to deal with as sharp of nails when moving the dog in and out of the tub. But it’s also just to kind of “get it out of the way” for me personally. I like to save the fun stuff for last, and for me, doing the nails is not the funnest part of grooming! Some wait til right after the bath because they say the nails are moisturized from the water and easier to clip. I’m not sure if “moist” nails would be easier to dremel however. As for the pads, I do before the bath IF there’s enough fur that it will speed up the drying process. I always have to RE-do the pads after the bath anyway.

Many inexpensive clippers seem to come with only 1 blade and a few combs. The blade number is not identified so you don’t know what you have. Are they usually #30 or #40 or what? I’m afraid to try between the toes without knowing. Worried about cutting the thin skin between the toes. Thanks for all your terrific videos.
@GoodDogGrooming
@GoodDogGrooming 2 жыл бұрын
Does there happen to be a mm listed on the blade? A 40 is designated as a .5 mm. I would wager that the blade you have is a 30 or comparable but I wouldn’t know without the mm length. Here’s my “blade lengths explained” video, if it helps at all! kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmrIo62PodukgqM

@@GoodDogGrooming I have an older model corded Wahl and a newer inexpensive cordless Chinese brand. There is only one blade for each and no numbers on either. Both come with several combs with 1/8”(3mm) being the shortest. I would like to use a clipper between the toe pads because scissors are dangerous in my hands. 😱 I believe a 3mm comb is too long for between the pads. How do you feel about a novice using the unknown blade size for this?

Will the clippers cut the paws or ears just not to confident doing all of my standard poodle
@GoodDogGrooming
@GoodDogGrooming Жыл бұрын
The clippers can definitely cut the dog. It takes practice and even the very best groomers make mistakes. Hands-on lessons are great if you have a chance to borrow a professional groomer for that. Especially if you’re looking for a very specific lesson you could try reaching out to some local groomers to work out a single-lesson kinda deal. Just an idea. Watch many many videos too! Hope that helps.

What brand and size are those curved shears? A link would be appreciated. Thanks!
@GoodDogGrooming

I WISH I had a link for those! I strangely picked up those shears at a flea market in my extremely early grooming days. I knew nothing at the time. This lady was retiring from grooming and selling all her old stuff. She had a box of a variety of shears for $2 each! They needed to be sharpened (which cost like $10 haha) and became my favorite shears. They still are my favorite. They say “Just Rite” on them, if that helps. And they’re 8” shears. Hope that helps some!
