Paddington along with it's sequel is a good example of doing a Live-Action film adaptation featuring a beloved children's character done right. I seriously wish StudioCanal would have gotten their hands on doing the Live-Action Peter Rabbit film before Sony Pictures did. It would had turned out good knowing how respectful they treated Paddington. Especially since Peter Rabbit is such an iconic character and is also from the UK.

I am so happy you guys love this! I was worried. I disagree with you about the finale though, I love it. It's not just about the comedy in this film either. There are some genuine, emotional beats that really get you in the feels, and not in a manipulative way either. Two of those moments happen in the finale. Also Ben Wishaw, who voices Paddington, is just perfect. I couldn't recommend this film enough. In this cynical, crappy world we live in, Paddington is just two hours of pure joy and escapism. These films should be on prescription.

I think Paddington is one of the best kids movies series ever. I just think the British make better, more charming and intelligent kids movies. You have the Paddington films, Wallace and Gromit movies, Chicken Run, Shaun the Sheep and Pirates a Band of Misfits all British made kids movies that are Brilliant and not dumbed down for kids. There has been uproar in Britain about the live action movie of Peter Rabbit a similarly loved classic literary character like Paddington. It is being made by Americans and they have done that typical dumb American where they have tried to make Peter Rabbit modern saying hip-hop phrases that have long gone out of date and looks similar to Alvin and Chipmunk movies. The British are saying this is why you don't Americans touch British stuff.

It's a British movie. It's written by Brits, so self-deprecation & wryly taking the piss out of ourselves is usual. :D
@blakenicol15736 жыл бұрын
Yep. Typical British sense of humour some people don't get. They assume it couldn't be written by Britons because it is taking the piss out of certain British characteristists & eccentricities. No. The British are unique in that way.
@blakenicol15736 жыл бұрын
How do you define the overall traits, customs & idiosyncrasies of any nation? By stereotypes based on a truth & by generalising nationals, of course. I would define a British person who has been here long enough to have developed the British sense of humour, as exactly that - a British person who has been here long enough to have developed the British sense of humour. :D Although a British person is someone who is a British citizen, its humour will obviously pertain to those who have subsumed its particular kind of humour over time.
@blakenicol15736 жыл бұрын
Your comprehensive abilities are somewhat wanting. When did I "define a nationality based on someone posessing (sic) a supposed identifiable sense of humour"? I didn't define a nationality by an identifiable sense of humour. Rather, I defined a particular sense of humour by associating it to the generalisation of the British sense of humour. I don't know if you understand the nuance between the two. "I would define a British person who has been here long enough to have developed the British sense of humour, as exactly that." AS EXACTLY THAT is the part you wilfully left out. In effect, that sentence pertains to a British person who HAS a British sense of humour via subsumption over a long period of time. In reality, nationality is a construct & therefore could be seen as a myth, I agree. I'm writing in the context of assuming the words British, American, Brazilian, Egyptian, Swedish etc., bear any weight at all. The British sense of humour is a stereotype based on A truth, not THE truth, just as much as the rude, blunt New Yorker, for example, is one too.
@blakenicol15736 жыл бұрын
OK, to appease you a little bit, I'll refine my definition. Someone who is British is someone who holds a permanent British passport & furthermore IDENTIFIES themselves as British - sees their identity as being British. But regarding my theory of the British sense of humour, are you being deliberately slow at understanding? Again, I'll reiterate. My definition of it (someone who has a British sense of humour) is a person who has acquired the long-standing, renowned British sense of humour via subsumption over a long period of time of being here. If you're British & all your life have seen no evidence of it, I truly don't know what to say to you. What kind of Brit are you! Lol. "Can you provide any evidence for it existing?" The history of the British sense of humour goes as far back as Chaucer & even beyond. I studied him & one of his literary styles was to incorporate a particular kind of humour that was eventually adopted by other British writers over the years, including Shakespeare. Jane Austen is another author whose humour has been academically seen as quintessentially British. In the 20th Century, comedy such as 'Monty Python', 'That Was The Week That Was', 'Blackadder' & 'Carry On', for example, were all identifiable as having a British kind of humour. In the 21st Century, comedy shows & comedians such as 'The Mighty Boosh' & Richard Ayoade hold with them a humorous British sensibility. It's usually renowned for being the following: sarcastic, deep-pan, self-deprecating, ironic in content, satirical, intellectual or conversely slap-stick &/or innuendo-driven.
