Paddling Point Pelee

The Happy Camper and paddling partner Kristine Redmond head to Point Pelee National Park to paddle the marsh area and visit the most southern point of Canada.

I liked this one! That marsh has been on my radar for a couple of years. I can now add a couple of more spots to paddle there, thnx. Christina is lovely; I hope to see more of her in future videos, and the dogs too, of course. Ollie has such an expressive face!

Hi Christine & Kevin: In 1985 ,my wife, son, daughter & I spent the Labour day weekend visiting Pelee National Park. I remember a cedar tree that looked dead but in reality was totally covered in Monarch Butterflys I'm reminded of the trip almost dayly because I walked as far south on the point as I could until water was lapping on both sides of my shoe. With only one hand size stone in front of me ( The Most Southernly part of Main Land Canada) I picked the stone up & brought it back to Pickering where I use it as a paper weight. So in late February when I cover a file with the stone I'm once again at the most southernly point of main land Canada. Ah treasured memories! Thanks Brian 78

Hi Brian.... I collect stones and odd rocks while fly fishing here in Alberta.. I write on them (creek or river name and date) and sometimes will sift thru them to remember the spots. Nice story about the monarchs..

Thanks for doing a show in our neighborhood. Wish we could have drove out to meet you while you were here but alas we were gone on our own trip at the time. If you ever want to a paddle buddy for the lower Detroit R. let me know. P.S. I'd never attempt that journey to Pelee Isl by paddle. I've seen Erie get ugly fast enough times where a 28' sealed hull vessel seems too small to be in :) On the American Lotus fields, they are so healthy in that area. In the last 10 years it has been making a major comeback through River Canard as well.

What precautionary measures do you take to fight against ticks? Lyme disease is prevalent in that region.

I use BENs Deet and check regularly - make sure to get them asap. we didn't see any on this trip though
