The 71 is awesome. The more you use it and the more character and patina that it puts on, the better it looks. I have a Case Sodbuster and it doesn’t compare to the GEC. It’s on a different stratosphere. Love the video

What a great looking knife. Sure doesn't look green. Looks more brown . I have been trying to find a black one to go with my Bullbuster. I would either put it in the sheath with Bullbuster or let it go in a slip. Have a great time with that wonderful knife.

That model is my first GEC & it was given to me by a subscriber of mine. It came to me used, & that really helped me to use it also, & not make it a safe queen. Great work knives.

We all have to have one of these Paddy - mines a 2018 in the Natural Micarta - it's the sodbuster to sod all sodbusters imho. An interesting comparison can be made with the even-slicier humble Opinel No 6, which has the same cutting edge length. I do like the way it looks with your lanyard. I shall copy!

If you like the #71 in micarta you'd love the #74 in black plum jigged bone, I have both, excellent knives, the #21 is a substantially bigger version of the #71, enjoy.

I have a Case Sodbuster Jr ($29) and a Bullnose that I paid way too much for on eBay ($150). Was it worth the extra $120? Maybe. The Bullnose is a great knife. It’s amazing to see the difference in quality from two factories that are only 90 minutes drive from each other.

I have owned a case sold buster for about 40 years. Ir is an awesome knife, and for me, I would never pay more than $30 for a new one of any brand, and the case has a stainless blade. 40 years now and it still looks like a new knife.

Allways carry a sodbuster myself as a workknife alongside other models. It's good to have a knife you can allways rely on and don't have to worry about if it stays shiny and without markings. Then again it is a nice knife.

Yep. I never knew how much I would like the sod buster pattern until I had one. I had always used clip point lockbacks, although I carried an Imperial double eagle Puma for years. They changed the name to Wildcat skinner. But after it was confiscated and I couldn't find another one, I went through several smaller knives until I came across the sod buster in a hardware store. I carry four knives. One is for eating, a barlow, or a #6 opinel, in a small belt sheath. The other three are a large sod buster pattern liner lock in my back pocket, a bow trapper with a clip point and the spey blade in a front pocket, and a small lockblade with a spear point blade and a pocket clip.

My #71 is easily my most "used" GEC. It is a great work knife. Use it, strop it, a little mineral oil and start over.
@gizmocarr30933 жыл бұрын
I always wondered why you never see anyone use hot boiling apple vinegar to patina pocket knives when you see how easy it is to do. You can also use regular old mustard and a brush, Q-Tip, or just a toothpick to draw patterns on the blade. If you use any carbon blade knife it is going discolor anyway; so why not make it look like what you want it to look like. All you need to do is degrease the blade and add mustard or use hot vinegar. Mustard takes about 24-hours and using vinegar takes 20 minutes to make the blade a light gray. If you do it a few times it gets darker every time you repeat the process. Then all you need to do is wash it with hot water and baking soda to neutralize the vinegar or mustard. Oil it up and you are done; the finished patina also protects the blade from rusting better too. It’s not rocket science anyone can do it. I saw my Granny do it to her favorite little paring knife when I was little.

Near perfect knife, use mine in orange delrin quite a lot. The only drawback is the blade rap due to the strong backspring. Just be careful closing it, a couple of sharpenings later it was fine.

Tha Case Sodbuster Jr comes in both SS or CV and in delrin or bone. They’re great knives, but I’m pretty sure they only beat the GEC on price, nothing else. The delrin Case knives (ss or cv) are only about £35.
