I feel like, and I am ashamed to admit, that I subconsciously decided that I would not relate to this young Indian man. All I have to go by are how Indians are represented in movies and TV shows. I didn't realize that I don't really interact with Indians in my daily life. I've never lived or worked where they were represented in any meaningful capacity. I thought I wouldn't find Akaash funny (add in our age difference - let's just say I am older) so when he came up on my Shorts, I would swipe on by literally without a conscience thought. I've felt I was as far from being prejudiced as can be and didn't play into stereotypes. Well.... somehow I found myself watching an Akaash Short and then spent the rest of the next few days watching everything I could find. He makes me laugh from the bottom of my being. Sure there are things that this GenXer doesn't fully get but his genius is tapping into life experiences that bridge the culture/race/age/etc. divide. In the end we are all just trying to get through life and Akaash helps us find the humor in our struggles and foibles. I believe laughter keeps us young and comedy can, as is the case here, open your eyes to see where maybe you still need to grow and remind yourself that DIFFERENT isn't a bad word but PREJUDGEMENT is.

I'm from the rural Midwest and there was literally one black guy, one Indian guy, and two Asians in my graduating class back in 1989. Now I work in the tech industry and probably half of the workforce at the companies where I've worked are Asian and Indian. You realize after a while that everyone is just human and we all pretty much want the same things. A happy life. There are certainly cultural differences that reinforce the different stereotypes but it's hilarious and refreshing to be able to talk about that kind of stuff without any fear of insult. You really just have to get out there and meet people because there will always be people that want to divide us into different tribes.
@paulatredies92422 ай бұрын
I strongly, (as a fellow genXer still working to grow as well), admire your honesty and self reflection. Keep it up. You have made my day.
@falseego992 ай бұрын
I am an indian who works in bay area and its so strange that other races just try to avoid talking to us because they think we wouldnt have anything interesting to bring to the table. But yes when a few of them open up , we end up becoming best friends haha . Strange how prejudice works in people's mind. Well its also not your mistake since thats how the news and media will potray us and noone can do anything about it than to subconsciously ingest it 🤷♂️

Across many, many cultures and time periods, the social repercussions and stigma incurred when not keeping one's virginity intact has been rather unequal between men and women. Intimacy aside, there have always been huge differences in societal pressures and social norms, expectations. What has traditionally been "socially acceptable to do" is correspondingly different, so men and women have been forced to regulate their social, emotional, and physical needs in different ways...
