Aloha from Hawaii! 4 out of 5 stars on this, best palm trees I've seen made. As usual, your how-to is crystal clear. Extra points for doing the coconuts as they grow, not as found in the market. Like most nuts, they have a soft outer hull that we take off with a circular saw. Think of the hulls of walnuts or butternuts, friends. But palms don't have serrated leaves. They have fronds, with a hard midrib. Try running the wire down the full length of the frond shape. Then cut it like a fringe all the way to the midrib. Dip the plastic (great choice of material) into nearly boiling water to shape them. Also, your reference showed neatly manicured palms, suitable for outside a hotel. In the wild, the older leaves are always lower down and die first. They are dried brown, limp, and narrow, and just hang there until a wind knocks them off. Their bases left behind form the next ring of growth for the "trunk," properly called the mast. I used to work in a place where the lounge table and chairs were under coconut palms. They whistle down any time, day or night, all year long. It was a hardhat zone! So don't forget to add a few to the ground litter. After a few months, they will shrink and turn brown, but still not wrinkled. Going to go look for that project.

I like watching different modelers as you can mix and match to get what's best for your project or what materials you have. I like your site and also Lukes APS, The Terrain Tutor, and Luke Towan to name a few. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos they are very good.

Most impressive. However, for my palm trees, I'll be using your video on creating the prehistoric jungle diorama's cycads for the palm trees. The cretaceous palmetto Sabilites looks very similar to those and the palms you made here. Plus, it gives me an excuse to go and find tiny pine cones when out on hikes. For the leaves, I'll use plastic fern fronds.

Interesting tutorial... I use velum paper and ink. you can get serrated scissors to make the cuts...or an exacto knife. The air brush is a no no in my world... all of them I have would clog after the first half of the first leaf and I would never get it to work. Never had any success with air brushes... tried many tutorials and troubleshooting... I am just not supposed to use them i guess. The flip side is I'm rather adept at painting and blending with conventional brushes...

Hi, hard to say because i've made them at the same time i did my desert bases. But i think i did around an hour per tree working time spread over 2 days because of drying time. Cheers ;)

@Paepercuts8 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes that could work if you make it into a fine powder. I use it sometimes as moss or fine grass

Hey Pepercuts! Great video! Question: Are they pencil shavings or fake dead leaves? The Desert base video says to check this one out for the how to on the pencil shavings.
@Paepercuts7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I've used pencil shavings (around 07.00) and colored them in some brown ink. You could use many materials for this step but the shavings dry pretty solid when glued.

The palm trees look okay, but not your most realistic looking trees... i actually saw you use a type of fern in a different video, and it would make much more realistic looking palm trees, if you used them for the green part of the trees... it was one of your dinosaur videos... the one that's in the desert, with the triceratops... anyway, still a great video though... 👍
