Yep, as a Russian, I 100% confirm that at the moment post-punk is having its underground renaissance here. The only problem is that in an internet era most kids refer to it as Russian Doomer Music. And the main difference between Russian post-punk and original one is that the original one often chooses the topic of politics, fears or gothic style stuff whereas the Russian one is all about post-soviet decadence and overall lingering depression/apathy, which is less of a personal thing and more of a millenial generation trait at this point. Also post-punk is probably so popular here because we have at least one iconic band from the 80s that kinda set the course for that genre. I'm talking about "Кино" (eng. Film \ Cinema) that's commonly considered a "Russian rock" band, but many of their songs have this very post-punk-ish vibe, especially the ones like "Спокойная Ночь" (eng. Quiet Night), "Кукушка" (eng. Cuckoo) or "Группа Крови" (eng. Blood Type). P.S.: *POOTIS PENCER HERE* indeed, комрад. Прям в самое сердечко.

Can I just say its truly a pleasure when a channel can this incredibly informative; yet still have such a unique and chaotic sense of humor and exemplarily editing. I been watching your channel since 2019; and you always deliver. Not only that but I am actually rather curious to try out Post Punk now - Thank you for the rec. (Espically since I usually only listen to metal; granted my tastes encompass a lot of subgenres. - Till next Time - Cheers from Australia. Will plan to watch this one many more time

Dead Kennedys definitely had a goth side that Jello proudly acknowledged. They took UK Decay (possibly the first goth band) out on tour along the west coast, and they are sort of Birthday Party-ish at times.

Great to see there's someone who remembered UK Decay! Mick Mercer used to think they sucked lmao! I think Biafra mean't it as a joke, since those bands all had the same punk roots.

literally came across this video while listening to post-punk. I've never been so attached to a pagefire video this much. Kinda wish u talked a little about the recent (late 2010's-2020's) resurgence in the UK other than just the Russian side, but I still love the vid, nonetheless :). Some of the most comprehensive post-punk stuff I've seen!

It's been a while since I was heavily into this Goth thing. A few days ago, I stumbled over your channel and these songs. You totally got me by surprise. I really love that "Siouxsie vibe". Now both songs are stick to my brain and refuse to get out, again. I'd never bought anything via bandcamp before, but this time i simply had to. Thanks & great job, man!
