Your hard work certainly paid off, Paige! I've been following your channel since your University days, and your positivity always inspires me. Almost 20 years ago, I took the same sabbatical and it forever changed my life. That's also how I met my husband (although this wasn't part of the itinerary! ;) so who knows what other wonderful experiences lie ahead? Wishing you a wonderful time. I'm looking forward to watching your travel vlogs.

Hi Paige! From a fellow backpacker, congrats on taking such an incredible step towards making your dreams happen!!! You asked for advice, so here's mine. Very few people talk about travel burnout, but it's quite common when you start a long-term trip if you've only experienced short-term vacations. Give yourself permission to take breaks, to not do everything all the time. There'll be a lot of incredible things to explore and a lot of people who may seem like they are experiencing much more than you and making the most of their time there, but try and not compare yourself. Everyone has their own pace and rhythm while travelling, the most important thing for me was listening to my body and giving myself permission to rest, to reflect, to write and even to do mundane things that make you feel closer to your home. And that includes allowing yourself to discover that this is not what you want to do even if you had everything planned out and told everyone about it! Wish you the best of lucks and hope you find everything you were looking for in this trip 🥰

Paige, I am so excited and happy about your journey💓20s are one of the most important parts of our lives where we spend our time building our careers and making a path for the future but we often forget that we are working to lead a good life not living to simply work. I went through the same burnout myself and took a three-month break from everything and when I returned to my work, I was a totally refreshed and new person✨ So, I am really glad that you took this decision. You totally deserve this🥰and I am sure this will be the best adventure of your life❤ Good Luck and can't wait to join you through your vlogs😍🎀

Paige-Long time viewer, have followed you since your time at Cambridge. I’m so excited for you and this great adventure you are about to experience. I greatly admired the dedication you showed to find a career after graduation but knew how demanding Actuary qualifications was going to be. And you were very successful. But I always thought it was a shame you didn’t take just a bit of a break-but 2020 was such a bizarre time I understood your choice. Takes a lot of courage to step away for this break (and says a lot about you that your management is giving you the time). Enjoy every moment of this break, I don’t think you will ever regret it. Can’t wait to see all that you do over the next 6 months!

Enjoy your holiday. A balanced approach to managing the work aspect too. More of an observation than a tip but I think everyone gets the travel wobbles. The omg why did I leave my comfy home and routine feeling at some point. Phone home, do something that brings comfort, breathe, take timeout out and listen to your instincts about people and places. If you don't like something about your travel plans or people change it! The organised travel support is a good way to ease into travelling. Remember you're still in charge of your travel experience and don't be shy about changing stuff to suit yourself like extending or shortening trips . Congratulations. In Australia it'll be hotter than you think - hydrate (have some electrolytes available too) and use sun protection like hats and sunscreen.

A sabbatical sounds like a great plan. I'd recommend reaching out to someone called Sol Hyde. He's a new creator who is leading the space of people in their 20s taking time off work to focus on personal growth. I've been in the UK for 12 years, became a citizen in 2024 after also it feels 10 years of exams (school, uni and I also completed my tax exams at a Big 4 firm) before taking medical time off due to burnout and depression. Sol gave me the push to make the right choice and I have no regrets. Wishing you a great 6 months off travelling! Enjoy

This will be a wonderful experience for you! And 6 months away from work is no big deal in the span of a career as you said. After I finished my university degree and MBA (which I was doing while working) in the US I moved to London and traveled all over Europe. Some unforgettable memories from that time! I feel I gained a lot of confidence in myself in that time and learned how to handle things independently. Useful life skills!

I finished university in June. After that I worked for 3 months and in September I went to New Zealand where I am currently at. All by myself. First time solo traveling and outside Europe. Jet lag is a thing, but once you are here it will be the time of your life! I recommend you to not plan too much in advance. Unfortunately 1 month is not so much for NZ. Consider staying longer here because you don't want to just rush through the touristic spots. I met so many people from all corners of the world. Most travelers in NZ are german, french and british. Talk to people! They are all friendly and you get easily in contact with anybody. Hostels are great, but some are expensive. Think about staying at campsites in a campervan too for some time. You will see much more if you have a car in NZ. And don't stay too long in cities. They are not a highlight here.

Lol this video just gave me an extra motivation to actually travel. I've been thinking and researching this for months now and looking at different cultures and where am most likely to fit in etc. I wanna travel solo as well but my biggest fear is just being a loner in a new place. Don't let the idea of a 6 month sabbatical worry you. 6 months is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Women take 'breaks' from work to have babies all the time, for example. It shouldn't (in theory!) stunt career prospects.
