In Malaysia, we have something similar called Kueh Koci. But ours will have the coconut milk component less thick. And our version of palm sugar (gula melaka/ gula kabung), is much, much darker.

If you would boil the stuffed black glutinous rice balls and would roll them with freshly grated coconut the dessert is actually very similar to Indonesian klepon (or in Malaysia Onde)
@EatAwayTV4 жыл бұрын
Yes the texture is very similar due to the stickiness from the glutinous rice starch!

Hi, Palin. I watch your show regularly from Menorca, a small Mediterranean island in Spain. I enjoy your wonderful recipes and techniques, but most of all your enthusiasm. Just two requests. One is whether you could give the metric and Celsius equivalents of quantities and temperatures. The other is suggesting substitutes for Thai herbs and ingredients that are nearly impossible to find in stores in Europe: galangal, Thai and holy basil, dried baby shrimp, kafir leaves, etc. Perhaps mentioning the alternative ingredients and temperatures in the subtitles would work. Thank you so much in advance.

Is that similar to the Philippine "puto"? It is made of ground rice as well that is steamed. It comes out like an airy spongy rice cake dessert. You top it with fresh grated coconut with an optional added sugar.
@TVOme4 жыл бұрын
It's more like a fusion Siu Mai with Thai influence.
@bend.60914 жыл бұрын
Agree with อธิป กลิ่นวิชิต. For Kanom Sod Sai, don't think it's similar or close to Filipino dish you mentioned at all. For that bird dumpling, it's a snack, not dessert. You can easily see it got a Sui Mai influence, adapted in Thai style.
@rowenadinsmore14 жыл бұрын
@@bend.6091 Ok, so it is more of a sticky consistency then for the kanom sod sai.. I get the dumpling. I can tell that it is just like any dumpling. Thanks.
@rowenadinsmore14 жыл бұрын
@@bend.6091 If it is not similar to the consistency of Puto would it be similar to the Mexican tamale or the Philippine bubuto? I know the mexican tamale is made of fine corn grits while the bubuto is made with ground rice but when steamed, they are somewhat similar in consistency.
@niallahorana33772 жыл бұрын
It's not similar.

Omg I love to cook, but nobody would force me to do all this work with each and every chicken dumpling moulding. They look delish and I am sure you eat them much faster than you make them. But then again they were made for royals who could afford their royal chefs.
