Really great demo! ... I love painting sky/clouds and waves but so far only using oils ... You've inspired me to try the acrylics ... If it doesn't work out I can always paint over in oils once acrylic is dry ...

Wonderfully instructive as always Malcom. If you haven’t tried a Stay Wet pallette for acrylics maybe give it a go. It works so well to keep the paint wet. I used to use pallette paper but the stay wet keeps the paint workable so much longer.

@@MalcolmDewey do you have any video on what to do when you got a hole/ slash in a finished painting? Several times my painting’s during travel or they fall and get a rip. I try to fix but …. Wonder if I could fix better? I could send you pictures but I don’t know how on this channel. Thank you. How I try is medium paste on the back to fill slash/rip then try to paint over on front so light stops shining through.

Last july we visited South Africa. The whole month July started at the Cape town and than up north to Timbavati . This is such amazing country, breathtaking. At Cape Vidal beach I saw these huge waves, sparkling with million drops. I have foto’s but I would like to paint them. Would you consider a lesson ..paintig huge waves… With regards Jolanta

Thank you! Yes I did, although that is not necessary for acrylics. I do think it helps to keep paper from buckling and absorbing paint.

Love your paintings! I paint in acrylic but is about to start with gouach. Wonder if I can use it in the same way?

Yes they are similar as opaque mediums and painting in layers. But gouache has unique qualities. Drying darker is a challenge. Fun though.

This is great. Thank you. I’m curious how you manage to keep your acrylic paint wet on your palette. Mine dries out very quickly. I have to squirt out more paint from the tube as I go, and move to a clean spot on my palette.

I find that the Amsterdam acrylics last quite well in the studio. However always have a water atomizer to mist the paints now and then. That is probably the best tip. Then you can place your paper palette over a damp towel. Use a tupperware container big enough for this. Use the commercial palette papers or even kitchen wax paper. All of these tips will extend drying time considerably.
