Paint it black! Hiding the M2 Comp's hideous muffler

A quick, cheap and satisfying project: prepping and painting the low-hanging muffler on the BMW M2 Competition that many have likened to a cow's udder. :(

I love all your content and love the practical approach you take using tasteful functional modifications to your cars. Now I just picked up my 19 M2 COMP while I can understand how the muffler isn’t that aesthetically pleasing to the eye I don’t think I would chance painting it and to be honest I don’t know why people make such a big deal over it I don’t think it looks so bad but if I were to choose between 9k akropovic cat back or paint I would try the paint options first 😁 great video keep em coming

Wow! great video. I’m going to do this to my X5 E70 sport. That rear muffler is an eye sore for me. BMW, should learn from this what the customer likes. By the way. I hope you have a couch and TV in that man shop lol. Couple bar stools. Nice garage.

That is what I plan to do with my 2020 Sunset Orange M2 Competition when the weather is warmer. It would be nice to see what it looks like in better light as mentioned below. It is probably the only cosmetic thing to be done that is worth the money and time.

You can change just the back third - I guess that's why they're called a 'slip-on' system. However, it does mean cutting the exhaust. I've done it and it wins on four counts - aesthetics, sound, reduced weight and less restrictive meaning a few extra ponies! At a cost of course as you pointed out in your video.

what about the quality are you satisfied or is the paint peeling off? does the color hold? or does the color change?

So far so good--it's almost two years now, and the paint has held well. No peeling, no color change. Car is daily driven, including in the winter.

@@ilyasboss7287 Any auto parts store should have it. The VHT brand might not be available in Germany, but I’m sure there’s a good substitute. Just look for high-temperature primer and paint suitable for exhaust manifolds.

Good question. In this instance, not an issue because I bought the car at lease end. But in my experience the leasing company doesn’t care about such a minor change.

How did it hold up after a year and what was the bake process you did for the vht paint?

A year and a half later, and it still looks great. No bake process, just prep, primer, and paint.
