the price difference is so wide because ones a '17 with no or very little factory warranty and the other is a '20 plate with best part of 3 yrs factory warranty. ignore the sh*t info in the video and do your own research. both cars were available in 2018, so a much easier comparison than a 2017 and a 2020. Black M2 '18 plate, dct, 12,700 miles - £37,495 Orange M2 Comp, '68 plate, dct, 14,000 miles - £39,990 both cars on autotrader right now. £2.5k difference is a lot better than £15k right ? and for that you get an extra 45 bhp, nicer wheels, much improved seats, better handling, bigger brakes (bigger still on this one as it has the factory upgrade over the standard already better comp brakes), 5 months extra factory warranty and the only downside is a little bit less noise.

th3b0untyhunter that’s a cracking reply! Want to add that the added power doesn’t really make much a difference since the Comp is heavier too. Only 20kg more than an M4. But the improvement in handling and power delivery makes the comp so much of a better car. So if you’re in the market for a 2018 M2... splash the extra 2.5k and get the comp. Otherwise get an older M2 as it’s just as good a car

I have an OG M2 (lci 2018) i recently fitted custom upholstered M4 competition seats. Basically M2 CS seats i suppose...😎 i purchased the seats online. They come originally from a BMW M4 competition prototype car, fitted with carbon texture cloth (Testvehicle with only 7000km’s) Very happy with these. They perform better while spirited driving and they look amazing! I have a 2017 M2 LCI, it was an early one registered in late July. Could have gone for an original one, but preferred the updated dash and rear lights of the LCI. As much as I'd love a Comp, it's just not that different to justify the extra cost. 370bhp is more than enough for the road. I tried to find a manual in Long Beach Metallic blue but they are RARE.

The 1M isn't really 'a few more quid a month' as most buyers of either M2 will be financed via PCP which will not be available on a 61 plate 1M making it a LOT more per month on HP.

You really don’t want 500+bhp in an M2 though do you, that’s a mess. Maybe an akrapovic would help fix the noise? But you’re right, M3 and M4 with after market exhausts sound like they’re farting. I’d go manual M2 facelift with akrapovic and a gentle Litchfield tune 💪💪💪

So when a video is about “less” exciting cars like ‘just’ m2’s for which I’m not in the market, there are still reasons to watch. You make the best quality videos story-wise, there’s a point to your videos rather than just driving a car because you can. The visuals are also some of the best (bar Cars with Luke). one of the interesting points i saw someone make, who drove all 3 version of this car is that as you go from M2 > M2C > M2CS , the more and more COMFORTABLE the drive gets in the car, the more it gets to be suitable as a daily driver, which is the opposite of what BMW was trying to achieve.... lol.... these are the repercussions of when you let bean-counters make the final decisions on your business strategy smh

Great video 👍. A few points, I own a 2016 M2 and have retrofitted the LCI/M2C dials, they are easier to see in cloudy weather and are still analogue they are not actually digital, I too love analogue. I have also had the carbon and aluminium strut brace from the M4/M3/M2C retrofitted. This alone made a significant handling difference more to the chassis and suspension than the steering. The part numbers of the suspension between the M2 and M2C is confirmed as the same. All changes noted are due to the brace and yeh the car is so much more compliant and precise with it. The N55 with a sports cat such as I have sounds exotic and thuggish at the same time it's really brilliant. The M2C is more vacuum cleaner like in delivery. it is a really fun car it makes you work for the drive and grin like an idiot. I'd have the seats in the M2C though!

Peter Wood, there are plenty of sets on eBay, at least 6 month’s ago when i was looking. I even came across a complete M2 COMP interior, red stitching...Just google BMW F82 interior for sale. Select images and scroll away...some pictures will direct you to eBay, Some from crashed car salvagers, others like mine, prototype car interiors can mainly be found with used carparts dealers on eBay. More often than not though they are complete interiors and for the better part lefthanded drive items. COMP spec seats are rare though. As are righthanded drive items. I bought mine from an independent BMW specialist in Holland. He even retrofitted the seatheating, since mine were cloth wrapped seats. He also preinstalled the airbags. I swapped/sent him my OG airbags. All F serie airbags are exchangeable, same partnumber. There are some good threads on Bimmerpost on this topic. Here’s a link from what i posted on Bimmerpost. www.bimmerpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=25570472 This was a supprisingly easy job. Just read the threads on the forums. No coding required. Only need basic skills, take your time. Always disconnect the battery when working on airbag equipped items. Use your OG electric seatmodules if you want the electric functions to work. It’s plug and play basically. Manual seats are a great deal cheaper... if you want the illuminated seatlogo’s to lighten up then you’ll need to install some extra wiring and I believe also coding. I didn’t do so, It doesn’t bother me. You can swap all safety equipment, airbags, seatbelt tensioners from OG items to the donor seats.

Thanks Sam this is a really good video and comparison. I’ve got an m2 LCI and I feel that the tech (it has the dials and newer nav from the comp) versus fun factor is just spot on. I like the 1M but I feel that the step backwards in tech would be a bit much, plus the m2 was a partsbin special like the 1M so that’s why it feels more like it than the comp, which I imagine is closer to the M4 in feel. Regular M2 with full coilover set up, M2 Comp sport seats and some lightweight M Performance parts over M2 Comp, not like M2 Comp come out the factory flawless, still need some modding for it to ride well and handle well Just got to the end, that 1M is the ideal choice

I have an M235. I’ve thought about upgrading to an M2 or M2C but I haven’t yet for a few reasons. Getting into an N55 M2 would only be for the wider body and better suspension. The N55 in the M235 is the essentially the same (both have the same forged internals) minus better oiling in the M2. I’m currently full bolt ons, on MHD’s E tune and have the XHP trans flash which takes the already amazing ZF8 trans and feeds it cocaine and Red Bull. I could just suck it up, skip the nicer look of the M2, the better suspension, keep the M235 and spend the extra money on a bigger turbo etc. The M2C does have a proper “M” engine but I think most would agree that the S55 does not sound nearly as good as the N55. Plus it has that crank hub issue. You also pay a lot more for S55 mods imo. It does sound amazing however, if single turbo’d. So is the extra 15k really worth it for me to upgrade to an M2C? If my pockets were deep enough it would be a hell yes. I would fix the crank hub and single turbo it asap. But for now, I’ll stick with the M235. For everyone else it comes down to preference and your own personal situation. If you already have an M235/M240 and not sure if the upgrade is worth it, I’d pass on both F87 cars unless you really want one then go for it. If you have neither, I’d get the M2 and mod that. If money isn’t really an issue, you plan to go big power and are willing to take care of the crank hub issue, M2C is your champ.

The M2 CS is just a Competition with adaptive suspension and carbon bits for eye candy. Same 550Nm of torque, so it's just an engine retune. As heavy as M2C unless you specify carbon ceramic brakes... which makes it non-sensical compared to a Porsche. CS is just pure marketing.

I just bought my third OG M2. I didn’t consider the comp due to the sound and less aggressive looks. OG looks better, sounds better, and less expensive. If I was all out performance the comp. Everything else is the OG.

2023 here✋. With the introduction of the new m2, the price difference on the used market has narrowed between the m2 comp and the “Og” m2. Both are fantastic cars but if you can find a deal on an m2 comp it will be much more desirable vs the n55 m2 years to come

Driven both bought og M2 , was just more fun for me. Btw m2c still has analogue gauges they only look digital. Only thing I miss from comp are the seats

M2 is not more fun. M2 is more ragged, too inclined for the rear to snap out M2C is a lot better handling. poorer handling doesnt mean a car is more fun. noise is the ONLY thing a non Comp does better - and thats down to EU regs not any fault of BMW ive driven multiple versions of both cars for a lot more than a "quick round the block near Gravelwood"

@@th3b0untyhunter it's not better handling it just more liniear power and less wheel spin in low rpm range because of that , both this cars handle similar they have exactly same suspension, m2c is little more front heavy couse of s55 weight. Just can't agree it's a better handling car.

The Comp sounds awful. I think an M2 will replace my M140i, I think I’ll be going for the OG because it’s a load cheaper and sounds much better. I can chuck in some nice seats if the original bother me. I don’t like the Comp wheels either.

The comp sounds better than the M2 to me, but it's very easy to shove a miltek system on and then the M2C sounds unreal. Wish I could afford one. I also own an M140i, and there's no way I put 15 grand into upgrading to an OG M2, because if I put 15 grand into my M140i it would be a much better car than the M2. It's been running 455bhp/634nm reliably for the past 4 years, and kicking the arse of most standard cars under £100k, so if I decided to upgrade I think a loan would be in order to make the step up to a really much better car like the M2C, as the M2 just isn't that much better.

@@DjNikGnashers nothing makes great S55 sound good to my ears; it’s just noise. A Miltech just makes it louder. Not a fan of the noise at all. The N55 sounds great to my ears. There’s more to M cars than raw power in my opinion / experience and saying that a modded M140i will be better isn’t fair because a modded M2 will be better again plus they look loads better than the 1 series. I had an M140i; amazing engine and gearbox but awful chassis.

@@samcourt6228 Each to their own, noise preference is subjective to the listener. I think the pre OPF B58 sounds better than the N55 or S55 lol. I understand what you're saying, but you're completely missing the point. Yes of course a modded M2 will handle better than a modded M140i. But it will cost 2 to 3 times the price. My point was, the 15 grand difference between a standard M140i and a standard M2 OG ok, spend that on the M140i putting M3 control arms and top spec dampers, decent springs, a complete polybush setup, an LSD, and decent brakes, and you will still have 5 grand left for engine mods. The finished M140i destroys standard M2's on a track, as proven by a lad in scotland who's M140i he calls the hulk (because it has a green wrap on it, on youtube). His clips show his M140i creaming almost everything on track, and it's only 450bhp. Yes if you modded the M2 with the same it would ultimately be better because it has a wider track and wider tyres, but then your taking the spend way above what an M140i with 15 grand of mods would cost. NOW do you see my point ? Any car can be the ultimate trackday toy with enough money spent on it, but pound for pound a modded M140i will cream a standard OG M2 on a track, for THE SAME MONEY.

I have test drive both ones and prefer Competition. Better brakes, front end grip and power delivery. Worth the price difference? Nope. But in M2C you’re in much better position to tune engine. S55 no problem with 500. N55 I would not go more than 400.

I’ve owned an N55 M2 for six years, making 445whp and 500wtq. I can’t see any reason except $ to not get the comp. Sure, the N55 sounds better, but unless it’s straight piped, the difference is minimal and the comp could sound good enough with a proper exhaust

To most car enthusiasts, either of these cars would be a dream car. I've driven both of them and they're both wonderful ... but I settled on a 2018 6MT M2 and I think that's the sweet spot of this car. Interior-wise, the only major differences between a 2018 M2 and a 2019+ M2 Comp are the seats and the drive mode selectors ... but the different drive modes almost become irrelevant in the manual version specifically because the only way to turn off rev-matching is to fully disable ESC. Doing this defaults every aspect of the car to "sport" mode and renders individual modes irrelevant (unless you disable the feature after-market). Both of these have the updated digital dash too ... but man do i wish those M3/M4 seats (albeit they're in dakota (rough) and not merino (soft) leather) were offered in the pre-comp models. Sound-wise it's no competition (...literally) and if you shop around and do research you can find used M2's with the MPE option for roughly the same amount as a stock exhaust version ($500 - $1k difference when the exhaust and tips cost over 4k new) and then the sound becomes next level. A simple stage one with an aluminum charge pipe for more reliability will give you roughly the same numbers as the comp and also be lighter (most all of which is over the front axle because of the engines) and it seems that the lighter BMW's are more often than not the ones that people like more when it comes to driving. That being said, I was laughing 30 seconds into my test drive of a 2020 M2 comp prior to my purchase of the 2018 because of how amazing and raw the car felt. Like I said, either of these are a dream car for most.

I once owned a 2007 1 series coupe it had the same seats like the pre facelift m2 which turned me off like crazy then no s motor like a real m ffs not even m mirrors thats why i went for the m2c. Put on a remus slip on a cs carbon lip on the trunk cs tune too 460 hp and I love it 🥰
