I've had a number of you ask for a paint mixing video. So here it is. Just remember that my experience at acrylic pouring has been brief so far so I don't have all the answers. I do however do my best to help other that are new to this art like me :).
Hope you get something out of this. Enjoy!

Great video! I think sometimes a little water is needed for this ratio especially if using “Flood” floetrol which is as you mentioned thicker.

Let the pigments settle in the jar, so when you open the lid, you'll have less particle floating about. Jo Sonja gloss varnish polyurethane water base is what I use also to 'wet' the pigments before adding PM. Stir gently at first to help minimize pigments floating, then mix well until it's like a paste. Add your PM to your desired consistency. It may get a bit bubbly but resting it for an hour or so, then a few taps under the container of your paint mixture will help those bubbles rise up to the top. My heart stopped for a second when the Liquitex PM spilt but it was saved, then I breathed again lol Love your vids! Looking forward to seeing more 😊

@@fionascreativecanvas Thank goodness for the silicone mat 😆 it saved a pretty penny though! I find the Atelier pouring medium is quite good and a cheaper alternative. @@fionascreativecanvas I have only ever used the Jo Sonja as this was recommended to me when I first started pouring and I find it really works, also I add a little bit of the gel gloss as pigments have no binders like tube paints do. Hello Fiona I just found your Channel wow I've always wanted to try the Molly swipe as I call it you did an amazing job I just got done watching one of your videos where you did the rainbow swipe on the black bass as I'm watching you do your mixing video I wanted to let you know that you can always disperse your pigment in the floetrol itself as I have done many times , just has to be mixed a little bit longer maybe a minute the gel gloss is good though because it acts as a binder I do a lot of blooms and when I dispersed my pigment in the varnish I add a little pea sized amount of the gel gloss to act as a binding agent the way you do it is awesome too but I have mixed up pigments in a lot of different things people probably wouldn't try but it does mix well I just started my KZbin channel about 6 months ago mainly blooms but now you've inspired me to try this I'm wondering if the liquitex gloss varnish pouring medium will work as well I think Molly has used that as well too cuz I don't have the other anyway so happy I found you keep up the great work sunshine❤

Oh what a shame. Have you tried different ratios? Also make sure you try Amsterdam paint for your swipe mix. Titanium White is best. This paint was a game changer for me. Also look up an additive called Penotrol. I think some people have tried adding that but I don't know much about it or if you can get it.

Do you just use acrylic paint for your base as well? Is it mixed much thicker? Or do you use house paint? Also it would really be helpful if we knew what size your canvas is. Sometimes on larger canvases the swipe doesn't make it all the way to the end. Thank you for showing the consistency as well. Your video is very good, thank you. I really love your swipes, especially the metallic ones!!

You can use any colour or multiple colours. There are so many different methods, so it depends on what you are trying to achieve. I've done swipes through puddles of colour, and put down a base colour, and then added colour on top to swipe through. I'm going to try something new soon mixing two different methods. Have fun with it 😉

Thank you Fiona , its really informative ...yet , please let me know if you are using the same recipe and ratio for both the paints and the cell activator (swipe paint ) , is it 3:1 ?
@fionascreativecanvas
@fionascreativecanvas 8 ай бұрын
The cell activator is 3:1. The paints to pouring medium are roughly 3 to one, but as different brands have different consitancys, it can vary. When mixing your paints I believe the most important part is that they are all similar in consistency. To test, put a small amount of the same size of each paint on some paper and then hold up the paper and see if they flow at the same rate. Over time, you'll get use to what consistency works best.

@fionascreativecanvas
@fionascreativecanvas 6 ай бұрын
Hi Maureen, I've only been doing this a year and have gained my knowledge through following other youtubers. My understanding about Floetrol is that it's used by professional painters in house paint to make the paint flow better and avoid roller marks. I use a combination of both this and pouring medium. It helps keep the price down and works very well. Pouring medium is made specifically for paint pouring, so it's perfect. I have seen people use just glue and water and get good results as well. I guess it depends on what your goals are, on which products you'd like to use. Hope that helps.

@@fionascreativecanvas This is the video entitled: WOW! Must see LACING on Exquisite Metallics - Best Acrylic Pour Swipe Yet! made 4 months ago. In your comments of this video, you indicated the video of preparation with the products and quantities. So I watched this 2nd video and followed everything to the letter except for the Liquitex medium, which I replaced with the combined medium: cleopatre glue + Easycryl (medium used here in France by Bernie): so 3 parts Australian Floetrol + medium (half/half) for 1 part Amsterdam paint and 3 parts Australian Fleotrol for 1 part paint for the color put on the swipe knife. And for the background paint, as you didn't mention, I used 2 parts medium (half glue, half Easycryl) and 2 parts black paint. These are the proportions I used to use. For the black background paint, I recently tried gouache. Unfortunately, I didn't get the lacings at all like yours. If you could leave me a mailbox so that I can send you the results, maybe you could help me understand what's going on and what I haven't done correctly. It's all the more annoying because I've brought a 4L can of Floetrol from Australia, and I was really looking forward to it....I was really hoping to succeed...so I don't understand....
