Amatuer here. Doing a portrait of my dad and its beige city. Losing both temperature and chroma. This video and your skin tones tutorial is seriously life-changing. You make it so easy to grasp. Deeply grateful. Stay well.

Hi there!! I have just stepped into colour portrait paintings. I was looking for these ideas. I will try this idea. One more thing I want to ask that For First Layer in Portrait Painting, Do we have to make the foundation colour same for all type of skins. Also please make a detailed video on this. I will really appreciate it. Thanks and Lots of love from India.

You can make the first layer any colour you prefer. It’s the values that matter. Please watch my other video on mixing skin tones.

Sorry, I don’t really work in acrylics. I mostly use oils. There has to be someone with great acrylic videos on KZbin. Best of luck.

Interesting technique. It's hard to see in a video exactly what is happening (for me, I don't agree that the values are the same in the skin tone or the blue). I wonder if part of the "magic" is that paint looks better when it is not completely even in tone? So adding in a bit more chromatic colours when the mix is 99% there (and then don't over mixing it) would give it more life.

Yes, there is a small value shift, there has to be if you are adding a touch more colour in. Values are so close it doesn't really matter.

This video doesn't make sense to me. If you just added less white to begin with you'd end up with the same effect, no?
