Hi Betty! To clean, I unscrew the roller itself and then I pull soapy water into the paint stick a few times to rinse. There is a ring you can purchase to help clean the roller.

Does not work with standard paint. It is too thick. You would need to dilute it. You may then need more coats.

I've used this paint roller dozens of times and have never had to dilute the paint.

I presume you are from the US. I am in Australia. Our water based paint is very thick - like custard. I am not surprised that it was impossible to suck it up. The tube that goes in the tin is very narrow.
