Sometimes when Im down, I look up videos of people who have no limbs and manage to smile everyday and be positive, or I watch 3rd world countries where there are certain patches of places that dont even have running water or proper medicine and schooling. Its amazing how putting into perspective all the things that are around me and available at my disposal including just being able to walk, see, talk, eat when i reflect on that, it shows me all the good things that are here and gets me right out my sadness. If it wasnt for Jesus, dont know where i would be. God bless you young man.

Pro builder here, my cut in usually winds up being about a foot away from the edge I’m cutting, using the exact same techniques as this professional painter gentleman. I use a 2 gallon bucket, roller screen, 4” roller and an 2” thin angle sash brush, my cut in leaves only about a 1” brush texture and the rest is roller texture cut in, in which I feather into with the 9” roller on an extension pole. I feel it allows me to work faster with the big roller because I’m feathering into a much a much wider cut in. To each his own. This guy’s technique is pro grade all day long.

Depends on the nap thickness of the roller you are using. Some are for smooth walls, others are for semi textured all the way the to a stuccoed and cement texture. The thinker the roller the better coverage for high texture walls. Less nap thickness is for smooth surfaces walls.
@unsanctionedchaos29944 жыл бұрын
It's a combination of many different factors. Quality of your roller sleeve, experience, paint quality, and pressure of application. The best coverage comes from forcing it into the "pores" followed up by a gentle pressure back roll. Painting can be fun if you take your time and put some pride into your work or it can be very stressful if you're trying to rush through it. Just like most things in live, take your time and do it right and the rewards will far outweigh the negatives. Good luck!

Painting since I was a kid. For the people commenting on the use of a tray and 5er. We dont use that as its usually a good way of contaminating your paint with dirt. Shit always gets in it off the roller. So unless you dont pay for paint or plan on using the whole fiver at once I wouldnt suggest it. Pour off small amounts into a secondary container. Use only what you need and never pour unused portions back into your main fiver. If you do. You just cross contaminated... Enjoy straining paint through cheese cloth or pantyhose next time you want to paint with that fiver....... walls dont look so good with shit dried in the paint stuck to em.... just sayin...
@danielhughes59325 жыл бұрын
lol u dont use a whole fiver its like half way at most and if u are out of a full its not like it takes 10 hours. unless your doing cuts if you cant roll out 5 before its contaminated (unless there some conditions bad enough where you shouldnt be painting anyway) you shouldnt be painting

As a Gov't of Ontario ( Canada) Certified painter I am curious where you got your certification. In these parts the program is only offered through union companies, where I got mine many years ago. I would like to address the bad advice guys below. To tyvek05 good luck with the wet cut-ins. Today's latex dries in seconds. The thin edge of a cut is stuck before I've moved my ladder. I guess you're working in oil paint you saved from the 80's, the stuff you could backroll. I heard a young thing behind the paint counter give the same advice as yours to an unsuspecting civilian. He was buying AURA, the quickest drying of them all. I didn't correct her but I laughed when the guy had gone and told her she was keeping me in business... Let those cuts dry. You can't stop it anyway and you can't cut a whole wall before it happens, even if you are as fast as me! Today's latex acrylic paint blends right in no problem. To the guy making 4 by 4 foot " N "s on the wall I would ask why? If the idea is to get the paint up evenly with the least effort why are you making designs on the wall? The guy in the video is doing it the most efficient way. A roller load covers about 3 rollers widths on an 8 foot wall. Put your loaded roller 3/4s of the way up the wall close to where the third width will finish and pull it down to where the first width will start, like he does. This distributes the paint across the width of the pattern quickly and evenly enough for you to now roll away. Anything else is an unprofessional looking waste of effort and would have got you fired pronto where I worked.
@XCPainter7 жыл бұрын
dave grier I agree, I roll very much like Remi does, I have a video if your interested, though it's basic raw footage. "That's how I roll, using Pro Mar 200".

I've seen other videos where they explain the N or W pattern avoids lines one the wall left by the repeating pattern of the roller. I used the technique in the video and it seemed to work ok but in this case I was painting a satin wall the same colour but in egg shell. I just hate seeing roller marks and want them avoided, but this does seem to avoid them in this case.

I own a painting company and this is just painful to watch. I can see these tips being helpful to people who have never rolled a wall but as a professional myself I can say this IS NOT the most effective way to get a good finish. I use a brush to cut in the wall to ceiling and a 4 inch 1/2 inch nap mini roller or "weenie roller" to blend in the brush strokes and also use the mini roller around the corners and base. Then use an 18 INCH ROLLER to make painting twice as fast and the finish looks much better. It looks like you're spreading that paint WAY to thin as well. You want to roll about half as much as he did per dip to ensure proper adhesion and an even look.
@paulsallee48895 жыл бұрын
I do the same thing. I use a 6inch mini roller though.

@@kevinbeazy Even with the best paint you will see a difference in sheen from certain angles and light showing the different layers of how the paint was applied. It's much better and easier now for sure though.

LMAO you do all that work per coat per wall ? paaaaleeeassee, bud if your doing all that and saying you get a nice coat you have no idea period, mini roller on edges ? really dude you can't use a standard roller to get those edges ? .. riding cowboy !

@@ausreefguy5362 yep, I've painted professionally and side jobs for over 25 years and just cut and roll the damn wall. It's not rocket science. Weinie rollers are for going into tight spaces or behind toilets. Period. Lol! I like how people make it sound like it's building a nuclear bomb. Cut and roll and get out to the next job!😎

Roll the walls first then cut in !! It’s faster as you can roll close to ceiling and trim and have less to cut in. Also always roll left to right and apply pressure on the roller in the direction your going and then back roll to even out the paint. Always fave the direction your rolling . Also don’t be afraid to roll cross ways close to the ceiling and trim etc . A average room take me just over an hour for 2 coats . 30 years in the trade never met anyone who could keep up with me for quality or speed :) happy painting

You haven't met many people in the trade then. Ive been a pro painter for 40 years and would fire anyone that rolls before cutting in, only amateurs do that.

A helpful video, though perhaps not as in-depth as I was hoping it to be. Nonetheless, I was able to get a better understanding on technique. I'm working with this guy who has just started to paint his patio, and he wanted to know if I could paint. I told him all the painting I had done was with the family growing up, but he still thought that was enough experience. But even so, I want to be able to exceed his expectations with my painting abilities, so I thank you for this video.

No where did I see a cooler filled with ice and a couple of 6 packs. I don't get it ! My recommendation is a 6 of Heineken and a 6 of Sam Adams. A happy painter is a productive painter.

Ignorance can be so daring. Every so called "professional" painter has '30 years experience". There is "cattle" painting which is to go from job to job painting warehouses or rough type of finish. For this, time is money. Just like cutting lawn at a community: $45 a pop so you have only 5 minutes per house. In a high end market, painting is like a manicure so time is not money but the finish is what matters. Money is greater in high end markets and less houses than cattle painting. There is a place for the trays. It all depends on the job to do and colors to be mixed in a room. There is a place for buckets and grills but for big 30' walls. What if David is painting a 30' wall with a tray? Yes!! I will fire you!! It all depends on the job. Leave the trays alone.

@@vince6056. Then you go to Lowe's, get yourself a five gallon bucket and a screen. Pour your 2 gallons of paint in, mix well, and get to work. When you're done, pour all unused paint back into a gallon bucket. Let the screen and the bucket dry. When dry, peel dry paint from the bucket...

That’s how it’s done for the most part but I always use a 5 gallon bucket and grid to roll out of. Roller covers make a big difference also. I almost always use a 1/2” nap in the Wooster brand for eggshell finishes. Sherwins synthetic rollers seem to spray way too much. Wooster 50/50 blends work pretty well to. As for brushes, Wooster all the way. Masking tape tip most people blow it on is dust off the baseboard before you tape and when you have a few feet taped run your putty knife over the tape to help press it down. Cut in the baseboard last. Roll the walls and when you’re finished you can probably pull the tape. Use a damp rag to wipe off any paint creep on the baseboard. Too many people leave the tape on for hours or overnight and end up with a mess.
