Loved painting this, Diane - made it the cover page of my bullet journal it turned out so well! Chose birds as this year's theme and use your colouring books for the sketches. So appreciate having access to all your sketches.

Diane, here I am again, sipping my coffee and watching my morning watercolor tutorials. I love these birds. They have a vintage look, which I love. Can't wait to try this! Thank you so much.

Thanks so much Carolyn! I suppose I'm a bit of a vintage painter! I love that look too, so glad you're enjoying them. Hope yours turn out happily - it must be lunchtime there by now?

As some others, I start may days watching KZbin tutorials with a cup of coffee. I find the most heartwarming tutorials that ones of Diane's. My most impotant goal on my watercolour yourney is to reach the looseness and freedom of Diane's style. Thank you Diane ! ♥

Your videos with animals of any kind are my personal favs!! I think that I heard you say that you are going to do Christmas cards in November ( honestly, I’ve had your channel on so much recently in the background that it could have been from a year ago!) but I just thought when I heard that, that I hope you do loads of animals!! One of my all time favorites is the rabbit and hedgehog skiing down the hill!! I just love it!! And it makes me giggle every time I see it…what a great thing these days huh? Thank you so very much!💕💕💕

I'm so pleased you painted this piece on hot pressed paper! I have had some in my supplies for a very long time and was unsure of how to make use of it. I love these birds! I like the the way you have managed to get so much light into the piece it's beautiful!
@DianeAntoneStudio3 жыл бұрын
Hi Eileen! Isn’t it funny how we have these things tucked away and don’t get round to using them!? I am exactly the same. I started using the hot pressed more or less by accident, I’ve always been a bit afraid of it because of the bad reputation it has amongst the traditional landscape watercolourist in the UK. But actually it’s not scary and it gives a much brighter finish to your painting - you just have to take into consideration that it might not suck up so much water as your cold press paper does But apart from that it has no real issues. Certainly the salt and cling wrap method of making backgrounds works 100 times better on hot pressed - for me anyway - than it does on cold press! Thanks for your nice comment about the birds! I do enjoy painting birds, they always seem to be full of life!

That's so funny any Diane I wanted to say to you that I was a bit scared of hot pressed paper, but thought, no that sounds silly why would you be scared of a piece of paper? It's true what you say about watercolour purists in the UK they somehow put a block on our creativity and it takes us years of struggling to get it "right" before we realise it. Sorry rant over.😊

I really love the hot pressed paper. I am new to watercolor painting but of the two papers hot press paper because it moves on the paper longer. That, is also one of the cons of hot pressed paper…😂

Ah....painting birds. ..my nemesis. I am bound and determined to learn!! I think painting them loose might be the trick. Of course I have to draw them...ugh..getting my eraser out, since it takes me several tries to get them looking like birds..lol. I really like the looseness, (hoping I can achieve that look...My head wants to smooth out those strokes, but my hand keeps saying stop...leave them rough..... or is it the other way around??!! Guess I’ll see who wins! Lol. Thanks for another great tutorial.......until tomorrow, have a great day. (Not sure what time it is there in France but it is 12:45pm here in the USA.). Nell
@DianeAntoneStudio3 жыл бұрын
Hi Nell, thanks so much for your comment! YES, you can do it! Have a word with your heart and convince it to persuade your head to let your hand let the water do the work!!!!! One stroke, then change your colour at least a little bit, then another stroke, don't fiddle, believe in the power of the colour of the paint. Think twice before you make that last stroke. And remember, it will always dry differently to what you expect. I say these things to myself every time I pick up a brush!!!! Bonsoir - 7pm here in France and another foul weather day bites the dust!
