We are back on the '76 Silver Dollar Chevy K10 Sport Truck and demonstrate how you can do the bodywork, primer, and paint YOURSELF at home in your own garage and get good results! We start by block sanding and spot-filling the body before loading it up with primer for final block sand. We then spray a black base coat on the truck and load it up with 4 clear coats. Push perfection to the side and get your project painted - YOU can do this too!! Stay tuned for more of this old truck restoration!

17:40 process over product, every time A box of hog rings and a bunch of $5 oversize bath sheets from the Aldi Finds aisle will do more to recover a car seat than any $1000+ upholstery kit from Eckler's or Danchuk or whoever. You don't need the "officially GM licensed" anything to make it *work* Same goes for the bodywork. If you know what needs to be done and you have some of what you need to do it *right* then you have EVERYTHING you need to do it *enough*

See what you do is you just find a t-shirt or 2 that you like (1 for each seat if buckets or 2 for the bench.) Sewing really isn't that hard, just imagine you're tying really small knot's, like boy scouts.

Dalton, in a couple months I''ll be seventy, and I have to say, you have not a "can do" attitude, but a "will do" attitude. An attitude of inestimable value my friend! I had a 77 shortbox stepside with chrome bed rails, and custom paint that I ordered new and modded to where I wanted. You have made me smile my friend! Bringing that particular configuration around, and in "BLACK" is a worthwhile undrtaking, and I thank you!

This channel is quickly becoming one of my favorite automotive themed channels. The way you involve your son and have patience to teach him is inspiring, I typically just fuss and yell at my 13 year old son when he "helps" me. The puns and sarcasm is straight gold! My 15 year old daughter will watch with me just for the smart remarks. Keep it up man! This is one of the most underrated youtube channels around in my opinion.

Using body filler got a bad reputation from shops in the 70s and 80s who used it instead of body work to fix rust holes and dents. The way you're using it is entirely appropriate and the way all cars come off the factory assembly line. Very good job!
@randyhoepker5528
@randyhoepker5528 10 ай бұрын
I agree! I used to detail used cars for dealers in the late 70s. I saw quite a few used cars that had rusted out and were patched with bondo, chicken wire and fiberglass. Those repairs lasted six months and the paint would start blistering. Who wouldn’t be ticked to find out they had a bondo bucket?! That is what gave body filler a bad name. I do my own resto work now and replace rusted areas with metal and of course you have to use some filler and short strand fiberglass to get it sealed up and smooth. However, there’s a lot of people out there now who are paranoid about poor body repairs. They think if you used any filler, you’re scamming them and the repair is garbage. Other people who have never done metal or bodywork think they are experts because they saw someone doing it on TV too and don’t realize there is more than one way to properly do a repair. I’m 65 now and don’t have that many more years left to do bodywork as a hobby. But I’ve finally got half-ways decent at it. I am restoring a 73 Dodge van and doing a custom paint job on it with metal flake and candy. I’m doing a lot of airbrush work and it has several murals. It’s looking pretty damn good too. It’s going on three years since I started it. Just have the drivers side and roof left. It’s going into its first coat of high build today on those surfaces. The rest of the panels are painted.

Dalton I really appreciated you explaining the importance of just enjoying a build and not making it perfect. The first work I did on a car was block sanding my grandpa’s 36’ dodge at 10lbs old. I went to school with kids who got a brand new lifted truck or Alfa Romeo if they crashed it, while I have hand down made and a driveway. There’s nothing more exciting than doing something really sketchy and seeing it actually work😂. Always excited to see new videos!!

Congratulations on the 100,000 subscribers! For generally hacking your way through builds. This Silver Dollar truck is turning out to be a genuinely great truck again. I’ve always felt that black and red were the 2 hardest colors to paint and hide bodywork on a budget, unless you really like the textured look of finished paint. Like that you get from using a roller or large brush. Both of which I myself have used for mud/ beater trucks.

My dad was a mechanic by job when younger (it's a long story he had boilermaker certs, was an engineering guy but always hands on not an office dude, always had grease under his fingers and all that - just like me) anyway, he did exactly the same, we are the same way.. I learned with NOTHING. NOTHING. But damnit no matter what that man touched, and now me, it was turned to gold. It's just the way it goes, no I'm nothing like he was, but I'll tell you the best compliment I EVER got in my WHOLE life and it'll never happen again was the day my old man told me "nice work, son." You know how that felt. Damn I miss my dad. Rest in Peace Dad.

You kick ass Dalton! I enjoy your channel for the more rough around the edges content whereas with Kevin everything seems to be mostly clean cut and by the books. I think that’s why you both make for such a great pair when you collaborate 😂

Good job putting the kid in a mask while you are breathing in dust devils of primer and body filler!! It would be great to see ol' Dad come by and help out.....maybe critique some things or offer sage wisdom. High value edutainment right here Sir. Thank you.

I'm looking forward to seeing your truck in all its glory. It's nice to see you using the talents God gave you. I like everything you've done, but this is really nice to see. Congratulations on a really good-looking truck in the near future.

Been here about a year. It's like watching a slightly older me with a killer sidekick do the things I would do if I didn't have anyone in my life to tell me no, and I fuqin love it.

As a guy that knows crap all about painting a car I've really enjoyed this one Dalton! I need to sort the back doors on my 1980's work van and now I might just have a go myself...what's the worst that can happen 🤣🤣
