Just had an idea, could you make some molds with deliberate holes in the inside dice that'll get filled with resin on the second pour? maybe you could get some solid lines in color that would be interesting to look at.
@RoseKindred
@RoseKindred 2 жыл бұрын
@@Arcon1ous If I understood this right, that is possible, but for dice the mold needed would be quite complicated and may not be doable so small. It almost sounds similar to how they make Mold Trees for jewelry and the like. So you would need some way to burn out the inner cavity and path that will later be filled in. Or it is possible to make clear dice for the inner layer, drill through the dice with a small drill bit, and when molding it the second time the cavity would fill. It would just have to be done by hand for each set.
@Arcon1ous
@Arcon1ous 2 жыл бұрын
@@RoseKindred I was thinking more of just surface voids and not entire interior holes, just to have not a perfect cube on the inside to make the colors not exactly even.

Try to use a shell that is colored instead of clear! The change in depth from the numbers should change the color enough to read it without needing to ink on other numbers. I think it could look really interesting! (just imagine a gold interior with a darker shell. Most of the dice looks dark with some gold shining through, but the numbers would be even brighter gold!)

This is probably a silly question... But could one hold a lighter up to the stream of resin as it's being poured into the molds to help pop bubbles (coming from the perspective of not having a pressure pot)?
@RenEatsHands
@RenEatsHands 2 жыл бұрын
I mean i don't see why that wouldnt be worth a shot? though when pouring resin you want a thin stream to pop bubbles while pouring, so it might be difficult to aim the fire right. If you've got the materials Id like to know if holding a fire up to the stream makes it better!

Instead of paint-casting, if you wanted to do patterns or something more complex, is there any reason you couldn't just cast the inner die as normal and then once it's cured, pull it out and paint directly onto the inner die? That could be much easier to get more complex stuff! Or instead of painting on the inner dice, you could totally do something like printing waterslide transfers with cool patterns (tartan, paisley, even more complex stuff like the Mona Lisa if you want!), stick them down with a nice sealer (Microsol/Microset are often recommended), and then put those down inside a clear outer shell for some very eye-catching dice!

I think that if painted and cast the right way, you could create a set of tesseract or 4d dice. I would love to see if it would be possible and what the results would look like!

Have you tought of making clear shell petri dish dice? Like, making the inner part not completely transparent and using the petri dish effect so it looks like an actual glass capsule with something growing in a colored liquid. I don't know if that would work but i had to suggest it bc i reeeeeeally liked the petri dish dice u made

I want to get into dice making so bad lol. Here's hoping I secure a filter/vent system so I can make them in my room--don't have much space outside of it
