Jay, I'm jealous because this wasn't just miniature painting. This turned into genuine artwork. I'm sad to say that I never would have thought of that on my own. Conversely, it makes me really appreciate the award winning type of stuff you are sharing with us. I do have one suggestion though. I saw that beautifully repainted game mini sitting on top of the most god awful stand column. Companies like Evergreen and Plastruct, just to name two, sell much higher quality clear dowels in acrylic and celluloid if memory serves. I'm sure you can sand the coupling pin out of the top and even polish or satin finish it if you like. That dowel with the bubbles in it really glares and detracts from the game piece. That's not meant to be a criticism, just an observation about the quality of the dowel that comes with the mini. Thanks again man. Really enjoyed this one.

You know, the funny thing is that I don't even see the bases and stands when I'm playing so they don't really bother me. I've definitely seen some nice examples of painted stands that have me thinking about that, though.

I must try this when the Phantom comes out. Thanks for the vid!

Im trying this paint job out now on my phantom. I already did my slave 1 jango style, although i used all brush work with masking tape, not a paint sprayer. Im super happy with it though, it turned out amazing!! thanks for the tips. Now im just waiting for the first coat to dry before I start on the lightning effects. Wish me luck!!

Jay, Ive watched a lot of your videos and was hoping you could give some detail as to the style or number brushes you use because when I'm in the stores i never see exactly what i want/need. May have to order them, thx!

Love the finish product! How did you set up for photographing final with black background?
@JayAdan10 жыл бұрын
The important thing about shooting on a black background is keeping your light off of the background (I use a roll of something called "Commando Cloth") and making sure that your exposure is correct. Shooting on white and black backgrounds is always problematic if you can't control your exposure manually.
@ARTIST11D10 жыл бұрын
Jay Adan That's sort of what I was thinking. I have a mini-studio and it works great for the shooting on white backdrop and with some easy photoshop edit at the post it's fine. I like the black backdrop a lot and think it would be cool to do some shooting with a black backdrop. I've been watching some of your other videos and have more questions on thinning paint. I will post those to the appropriate vid. section when I get caught up on the sleep! Thanks again Jay for the quick response.

ARTIST11D No problem. I look forward to your other questions.

Nice work, Jay - and an interesting new style on the video. Did you consider P3 Frostbite for either of the two really light blue shades, out of interest?

I am looking to paint my first model (A-wing or Tie), but am having trouble finding paints that go on smoothly, as I do not have a game store or hobby shop by me can you recommend any type of paint? I hear apply acrylics are usable but am not sure. You're obviously super skilled at this so any help will be great!!
@JayAdan8 жыл бұрын
+Steve P. Where do you buy your miniatures? If it's at a game store there should have one or more lines of acrylic paints that would be great for this.
@2014Quinn8 жыл бұрын
I got started off the clearance racks at Target/ walmart, and a few as gifts. I may just use amazon or an online retailer if I cannot find some near me

Love the project idea and result! Although I rarely have cause to do it I always enjoy painting lightning effects as they're my favorite school of painting (freehanding) expressed very organically and with dramatic result. I also love this format for videos, and never be afraid to fast forward! Looking forward to seeing more with this format in the future. Was this your Tie Fighter or one for a client?
@JayAdan10 жыл бұрын
It was mine, though the idea came from a client who may get one like this in the future.

Great vid. I was thinking of painting a sinestro corps scheme for at least one of my interceptors. I was wondering what paints do you use for x wing miniatures?
@JayAdan7 жыл бұрын
Pretty much any hobby paints can be used for the X-Wing minis. Just be sure to keep the paints thin so that they don't clog the detail.

Advice for for practicing this effect is to go to like five and below or the dollar store and pick up some micro machine Star Wars ships. Practice painting on those . It worked wonders for me

Yeah love the effect and wanting to do the same on mine for stealth device.

do you know what colours I could use with citadel paints? I wanna do a cloaking effect on my fresh tau army. The effect is gonna be done on the devilfish as I am against battle suits lol. I wanted to have some fun doing some tau drive bys while the fish are in stealth mode.
@JayAdan7 жыл бұрын
I don't know the names of the Citadel paints off-hand and I really encourage you to do your own thing when it comes to picking colors. Having said that, if somebody held a gun to my head I'd say that, for the effect, I would start with Macragge Blue and then use Ulthuan or Celestra Grey

Really cool idea shame the Interceptor can't actually benefit from Adv Cloaking. But the paint job is really cool may use this on my Interceptors for stealth device.
@JayAdan10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree but the stealth device will suffice for the purposes of the effect.
@PrototypeZGaming10 жыл бұрын
i think it would have looked really cool if you used this effect from the lightning but also stripped the paint away on the cloaked portion down to its actual clear plastic ( if it is clear plastic that is lol )

well done.

How would you do a fleck effect, like candy paint (if you know what I mean)
@JayAdan10 жыл бұрын
The way it is always done. A metal-flake undercoat and a clear-colored overcoat. The last time I did something like that I used Vallejo Airbrush color silver as the base and Badger Minitaire Ghost Tints as the top coat. In the end I guess it depends on exactly the effect you want to achieve.
@chrisgood843810 жыл бұрын
Jay Adan Cheers, never really applied a fleck paint job to any models before. Was thinking maybe black paint with either silver or black fleck effects through the paint. Was wondering if I could get tiny metal paint flecks, mix it into the paint then paint on ?
@JayAdan10 жыл бұрын
Ah.. I see what you're saying. You can get additives for that. Vallejo makes a Metallic Medium that you can add to your paint. I've used it a bit (for a black metal flake effect, actually). amzn.to/1myEXy1
