I know this is off topic, but I'm wondering if you use water mixable oils, and if so would you be willing to do a tutorial? I have been given a set and I'd like to get started but haven't found someone out there who teaches the way you do. Thanks.
@walcottfineart50883 жыл бұрын
Good question! To be honest, I don't care for the water mixable oils, so I probably won't be doing a demo of them on my channel. You can do anything with them that regular oils can do. The only difference of course is they can be thinned and cleaned with water. They are compatible with regular oils as well, and can be intermixed with them, but past a certian point they will lose their water solubility if mixed with too much regular oil paint. Thanks for watching!
@theagespot97173 жыл бұрын
@@walcottfineart5088 Thanks for your honesty. I dabbled a little with them last night and the impression I got from first use was that they were a bit stiff. But then again I use M. Graham paints most often, so I'm used to a smooth texture. I still don't know how I feel about them altogether.

Hello, how to prevent oil paints from drying out in a tube that has not been used for two to three years or more?
@walcottfineart50885 ай бұрын
In truth a well made oil paint should not dry in the tube and should remain usable indefinitely as long as the tube is sealed and remains air tight. However certain pigments or a compromised tube can cause this to happen. The only thing I can think of that would prevent that if you are haivng problems, is to store the tubes in the freezer when you aren't using them. It slows down the drying process. Thanks for watching! :)

@walcottfineart50883 жыл бұрын
Once you pry off that outer cap, you should just be able to twist off the inner one like a normal cap. If not, it probably just means it's stuck on by whatever is in the bottle drying around the rim. Try pliers or running it under hot water for a bit and then see if it comes off. Thanks for watching! :)

Quick question if you wouldn't mind because I'm finding it difficult to get the answer i need Jason. John pototschnik, an American artist has said in one of his videos that he oiled out his painting with liquin. I've done the same and I'm concerned that I've destroyed the painting I've been working on for quite a while. Is it a bad idea to use just liquin to oil out ? Love you video's and look forward to the next one.
@walcottfineart50883 жыл бұрын
Well, to be honest "I don't know" is the best answer I can give. I certainly don't think you've "ruined" your painting, but we don't yet know the long term stability of Liquin. Gamblin recommends using a mixture of half Gamsol and half Galkyd, which is essentially the same thing as Liquin. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but if in doubt you can always use linseed oil in the future. It will just take longer to dry. Thanks for watching! :)
