Always amazing to see how many layers and corrections are made even at a professional layer. Too many people think you reach a point and you can magically draw exactly what you want at any time. Not really. It's always a constant push and pull, combining everything you know and those aspects you are experimenting with. It's always an adventure. Good work. So pretty. 😊

I been needing to use textures and shapes like this. It looks super handy. I just didn't want it to become a crutch though. I guess once I learn how to draw landscapes with just a normal charcoal brush I would feel more comfortable taking the short cut. I'd be interested to see your process from start to finish with just one brush... Thanks for sharing this video though I did learn a lot.
@WalidFeghali

See it this way: You are creating a house. This house is a complex creation of many shapes, materials and structures. Would you limit yourself to only using a hammer to build this house? That would be tedious, annoying and not optimal. I'd urge you to use the tools you have at hand to make your art. There's no need for you to wait with using techniques and tools before having done everything before that. While it's a fantastic exercise to only paint using one chalk brush for a few paintings, it shouldn't be your standard way of learning. Use what you have at hand and you will have much more fun and be creating much more than just limiting yourself. :) Good luck! W.
@Kittenbombs1
@Kittenbombs1 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the thoughtful advice. It makes sense, the whole "using just a hammer to build a house" concept. I think you're right and I am limiting myself. I guess I just like making things more difficult than they have to be lol. I will carry your advice with me in my future endeavors as an artist. Thanks

I am just a beginner digital artist trying to get into it. Your tutorials are amazing helped me learn many new things and quick ways to do complicated stuff. I many a times face the problem that I do not know the features of photoshop well so I am stuck inbetween painting after I by mistake did something weird or I want to do something in my drawing and dont know how to go about it. Then I have to go to the internet and search about the problem which kind of breaks the focus and wastes a lot of time. So do you know anout any place where I can make myself familiar with the tools and techniques of photoshop. I have tried looking at speed paintings or tutorial videos but in those too the artist just go over some of the things extremely naturally and quickly that they look extremely easy and when I go about trying to do that myself I get lost. So any help will be appreciated.

Whenever I make a custom shape and use it there are a bunch of blue dots that come with the shape. I am guessing they are like a line path or something. But they make my computer super slow since there are like hundreds of them. When I watched you video I saw that when you used custom shapes the dots didn't appear. I am going to guess you turned it off. How did you do that? Thanks in advance for the help. If anyone else knows please do help me out.

@@WalidFeghali - You're quite welcome. Truth is I used to draw ships and such a lot back when I was younger, in traditional media. I wouldn't say I w as terribly good at it, but ... sci-fi and space ships has always been a huge love, and I wanna be able to do it better. The same is true for designing weapons, both modern, futuristic, as well as fantasy. I loved drawing swords and such for my D&D game ideas and worlds back in the day as well. I don't think you'll answer back, but I really don't get the point with this kind of painting. I mean, you are so dependant of the different shape you have, and I think If you are only using it you are losing the main aspect of painting? Am not sure about it, this is my point of view, but am not sure people who are using or who will use this method will be able to do the same without using these kind of shape. For example, I am trying to study digital painting, since I am a newbie, I don't think this process will help me for the future, I think it's, in my opinion, just an easy process to do amazing things, but it's not with your own skill you are doing it, so it doesn't count. I don't know if you I'll understand it, if anyone wanna share your point of view I'll be happy to read you all (sry for my bad English)
@WalidFeghali

Hey! You have your own freedom to think like this, of course. There is nothing that says that you have to be able to use something to do some great creative work of your own, with any sort of tool, technique or process. If you feel that you won't have any help of this for the future, then there is something that isn't resonating with you, and you should seek for that fulfillment somewhere else. I do think that there is something to be learned from everything, any technique or person or tool can give you something new to bring to your own creative workflow, and it's up to you to decide whether you want to learn novelty or stick to what you already have/know. But that's only my opinion. :) Oh, and the point of this kind of painting is simply that I can through these custom shapes create something new, it's a fun way of creating something I haven't before, and it allows me to use different tools to achieve it. It helps me, and I get something great from it. But I don't think everyone should feel the same way, just like you are. I am happy with the result, and that's OK for me, regardless what other think. :) But it also helps me to create concepts quickly for any game, movie or other project that I'm working on. Hope that gives you a bit of an insight into my mind. Best, W.

Walid Feghali thanks for sharing your opinion, I understand more now. The fact you tell me this brings me something new, you quite succeeded to change my unilateral point of view. You also bring more legitimacy to use this kind of process, that's cool. It's really interesting to get an opinion of a person who knows tons of things about this field! :)

you know you still have to have the skills required to produce this. If you don't know where to place the light, where to place shadows, what water looks like, if you don't have a good grasp on the sense of perspective, on the sense of depth, if you don't know about color theory and which color goes well with which color etc..., you won't succeed. One thing I agree with you is that this video is not made for total beginners. Beginners should first learn about all the things I listed.
