i usually don’t leave comments on here but in this case i really felt the need of it. Since i was a kid i’ve always loved art and deeply admired those who could create beautiful stuff with a pencil but then i never had the talent for it so i just gave up in advance. But this year i stumbled upon one of your sketchbook tours and it was such a HUGE inspiration for me at the time, i loved the way you use your sketchbook as a safe space to create and learn and it did hit me really hard: in understanding that art isn’t simply a finished piece on canvas but also a passion and something you can use as you want and most importantly something that is fun and that you do just for yourself. And so i really wanted to thank you because i’m just sixteen so it’s never too late to pick up a brush and these past few months in my own sketchbooks made me fall in love with art in a brand new way i didn’t think was possibile. And even tho some days are harder than others watching you draw and do it myself always brings back my inspiration. I’m really glad for this channel, keep going you’re doing an amazing job and your art is a safe space for me as i’m sure it is for others!! sending a huge thank you for all of this

I feel the need for planning and trying to render everything perfectly SO HARD, I do that all the time! Planning helps with a piece but only to a degree, I've learned. Art is an expression and there is no such thing as perfection as perfection is an opinion. It's different for each person, so unless we are trying to piease everyone, we need to let that go as artists. We draw for us and hope others like it, we don't draw FOR them (unless it's a commission). As for style, you're exactly right. Style is your way of drawing a specific thing. Like, my style for drawing people is very different than how I would go about plants for example and they would resemble different artists completely if you compared them as I learned different ways from separate artists to start with. The progress on the cowboy painting is lovely so far! In my experience, FINISHING a piece is a skill in itself as it takes the most patience of the entire process and tends to be the least enjoyable. However, the mental trick I use for that is to say to myself "I already put x amount of time into this piece, do I really want to leave it at this point or do I want to make it WORTH that time?" That... usually gets me to put in the effort to finish it and make sure I'm happy with it. XD

oh shay, i love your videos sm! thank you for making them! about finishing artworks - i have the same problem with feeling dreadful to part ways with my pieces but not bc im afraid to overwork them (that too tho but not as much) but rather bc im sad im finishing them. i've been working on it for so long, did research and its been my whole deal for the last couple of days so i postpone finishing it bc what else do i do now haha and its silly bc what you do next after the piece is finished is you do another piece duh anyway, what i mean is - finishing projects /is/ hard, reasons may differ from person to person
