I love seeing the varied ways you're using the ink, especially the sun's rays, with the white! I play with black Indian ink and brushes occasionally, and perhaps, when I have a few centimes to spare, I may get some white ink. Also, I really enjoy using pastel pencils (particularly Conté a Paris) and inks in the terracotta earth colours of sepia and various depths of sanguine (but not ink and pastel in the same picture!). In this picture, at 5.02, I've spotted the long-nosed dog (maybe a spaniel?) with his long ears and his stumpy tail in the air, watching the oversized gerbil watching him. There's also a faery house on the left side of the path where it comes into the picture, and a gnome's padded gilet on the path. I guess seeing pictures in things may be considered a weird habit, but as a child, I had a lot of puzzle books which have those where you have to find the 'hidden objects' and also, lived with big skies with wonderful cloud formations. Living in fenland with those huge skies with magnificent cloud formations for most of my life, I've always played at 'cloud pictures' - where you look at the cloud formations and see various things. Children will do this a lot, until the gift of imagination is squashed out of them by non-remembering adults and / or being made to 'keep inside the lines' when colouring. With me, it also crops up when I'm looking at abstract paintings, or rock faces, or tree shapes. etc. The trees in the garden across the road were amazing for this in Autumn last year, when there were a lot of 'faces' as the leaves began to fall. However, it's not deliberate and doesn't happen all the time!!! A friend in the UK also has this imaginative gift, and it was wonderful to have someone who loves this as much as I did! Anyway, to reassure you, I don't see them in all your work, Sarah!

Yes.. "Children will do this a lot, until the gift of imagination is squashed out of them by non-remembering adults and / or being made to 'keep inside the lines' when colouring." exactly! I wish more people kept their childlike wonder and curiosity and didn't let others bring them down

I don't really like the lamy and twsibi that much. For me they don't give an ef line to my work. While they should be. I use most of the time the steadler fine liners. But unfortunately they are not so eco friendly.

I have had a really trying and tiring day and watching your video when I finally had a moment to wind down was absolutely the best thing that could be to turn my mood into cheerfulness and to become full of inspiration, thank you!! I am looking forward to your review of the Etchr Slate mini as I have the big satchel and while it is great it is sadly a bit too heavy for me, even when empty, it is clearly made for strong big guys, so I have been thinking of getting a mini Satchel instead but as it is an investment I am not altogether sure yet, so your review will be much appreciated! Thanks again for making my day so much better!

It's Ok, just do it for the process, the discovery, and inspiration (if it's there). I don't like sticking to it strictly, especially when I have a flood of inspiration to paint something. That is, after all, my purpose!

Hi Sarah, just wanted to tell you how much change and growth I've seen in your artworks since you've started plein air. It's been super cool being able to see it unfold a few years from when you were a little uncomfortable until now. I would like to try plein air again, I'm a studio artist. Last time I tried with watercolors and I dropped my paints along with other tools and started crying from frustration as I didn't have a good set up. I'm trying to figure out a versitile set up cause like you I use all mediums. I'm still uncertain about oils outside because of clean up. I did see a few recent videos on your fast plein air setup VS the full set up in oils. So I'm definitely going back to check out the easiest way. PS. I'm looking forward to your review on the slate mini... I was learning towards the thumbox or the cigar box the next biggest up. I think it looks a little better than the you go plein air easles. I'm not sure... Lol anyways thank you for your videos. They help my inspiration, I think well if you can figure plein air, I can too right haha have a great day from North Bay Ontario Canada!
@SarahBurnsStudio3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Trust me I've dropped my supplies more times than I can count 🤣 I've seen other artists oil painting outside and their whole easel is knocked over by the wind. It happens! There's not one perfect setup, it changes based on medium, location, mood. I have lots of setups and I just go with what feels right in the moment.
