I laughed and really related to what you said around the 12' mark when you talked about watercolor giving you a succession of smacks (of failure) after you had a few wins and just started to feel optimistic that you were finally getting it. But you assured that you just persist and eventually resume improving visibly. That succession of punches have been exactly what's been going on for me lately, and it's been a bit discouraging, so it's nice to hear you indicate that it's just the nature of the particularly steep watercolor learning curve. Persist!

Haha YEP! It was such a common occurrence for me so far 😁 The funny thing is, looking back, you really do improve on a regular basis. But it just doesn't feel that way at times. Happy this helps, thank you for watching 😊🙏🏼

We are both apparently crazy Liron. I study the values in absolutely everything. Mental pictures everywhere. Thank you so much for all your efforts here. I learn so much watching your videos.

5:50, the far-back grip helps you to see more of the painting/drawing while adding more control is because holding that way often force oneself to use more arm movement over wrist, therefore more relaxed and the hand tend to flinch less, also less tiring. I keep forgetting that habit because I only draw on small paper(but the grip also works for small size, it's just sort of easily forgotten because it's not as much used as writing position grip)

Hmm, very good observation. Thank you for sharing (: I was doing some on-location painting yesterday, and found that I did this more naturally. I can now see how what you said is true, if I think back at yesterday's painting.

Some thoughts.... I so appreciate the link to the reference photo, it helps to view it and watch and listen as you paint. The way you point out regrets and what you would have changed as you go is really helpful and so humble. There are aspects of both paintings I like but over all the second is most pleasing. Glad you kept the building in the distance. The number of subscribers will continue to grow if you keep your presentations as is, I wouldnt change it. Funny you mention feeling crazy...I constantly look at everything around me in shapes, values, color, light, shadows, textures, etc. Even peoples faces, thinking how to mix colors of that nose shadow--they probably wonder what Im staring at! Must be some artistic neuroses, haha! Thanks for all you do!

Like what you said about watercolor smacking you in the face. How many times I finished with a good painting and thought yeah I got this now . Then bam , the next 5 would be such a struggle. Lol . But I still love watercolor . You did a great job with this one .

I love your expanding use of color!!! I am growing also- settling on artist's gouache techinques for understanding values, tone, and tint. I will be busy for a year with that. I will also be moving into pastel with gouache. I painted today without a sketch or an idea. That's gouache for me. How did you know when you found watercolor to be your paint? I just had an ah-ha! when I did an DIY gouache experiment painting. This is why watercolor was failing me...I think like an acrylic and oil painter. Pastel is the same, dark to light...
@LironYan
@LironYan 7 жыл бұрын
What you say is very interesting actually (: I can understand what you mean by the different mentalities. I had an ah-ha! moment with watercolor, because they way they flow and run together really attracted more. I'm a much bigger fan of the light to dark method. I love the way the shadows create lights once you put them in.

It's at the bottom of the description box. Here it is again (: pixabay.com/en/montepulciano-toscana-italy-city-1639451/ David Howell's work is spectacular. I'll probably study more of it in the future. He draws with no pencil lines. He makes a separate sketch, and then follows it while painting on a watercolor paper. Quite amazing.
@ianjackson5834
@ianjackson5834 7 жыл бұрын
yes he does paint direct to paper and as he says this loosens the painting up and makes it less architectural and more expressive, just sad that's he does not have a lot of videos on youtube. thanks for the link.

I really enjoy this composition The red against green works great to bring light. At the end when holding it up, the distant hills don't look too blue... btw thalo wouldn't be my choice of blue in the distance as its a warm blue. As for bringing in more subs.. you're doing great! Its really hard for artist channels to get as big as some others because its such a specific interest. From what I've seen, those that do get really big are gimmicky actually... more about video entertainment and less about the art or teaching... some of the youngish female artists go that route as a tip to checking some out. However, there is one way I can think of that might work as I've seen people branch out from their main channel topic and that's sharing journey's. I, for one, enjoy seeing other parts of the world that I wouldn't get to see. I sub to quite a few RV/Travel channels and enjoy that aspect. One channel that's gotten really big started with reviewing Asian food and then went to showing the locals where it was tried.. got really big. Another thing to think about with that is traveling and showing some good composition scenes on your travels. Artist's do download or screen capture while watching when they see a good scene... I use Google Earth too to "travel" and take my own screen shots. Ugh.. after posting saw someone recommended Google Maps... good source... but showing your part of the world through your composer's eye would be nice.

Thank you for the feedback and wonderful recommendations (: Currently trying to find the balance between art and vlog/personal and other things. I actually just finished a brainstorming session on the direction of the channel, and had many new insights regarding what will help it grow. With that being said, I don't see myself as a "KZbinr" first, and so luckily I can let go of my worries in this field (number of views / subscribers / etc...) ^_^ I can instead focus on making the best content I can for the current audience, while documenting my progress and life.

Liron Yanconsky Well I hope Patrick is alright, I know during his trip to Vietnam he was very ill for a while. He is so talented, and at the same time a gentle and not in your face, style. Hopefully he has just been very busy with art shows etc. I loved the series that he restyled frames for his new art. Very smart and everyone likes recycled products.
