In this video, I use the new Viviva watercolor sheets and watercolor sketchbook that are in collaboration with Inktober. I’ve been friends with Aditya, the co-owner of Viviva, since before their original campaign went viral and I have always supported his endeavors. I agreed to feature his new products before the Jake Parker scandal hit. Although, yes, I was going to feature his products, due to my new hectic schedule, I wasn’t going to be participating in the Viviva Inktober. I featured Aditya’s products in this video because Aditya is my friend and I support him. I made a promise to do the feature before the scandal hit. It’s really as simple as that. Viviva went through with the launch, I’m assuming, because it would probably be a large financial loss if they didn’t. They’re a small art company based out of India and they employ a handful of local women. I’m not sure what kind of damage a loss like that would cause, especially now with the pandemic in full swing. I’m absolutely not going to damn them for not immediately walking away from the collab. As for my general opinion on the Inktober debacle, here it is: After watching both Ethan Becker’s and Alphonso Dunn’s videos, I’m not sure exactly where to stand on the issue. Initially, the evidence of plagiarism was very strong, mostly in terms of formatting and example choices. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t slightly suspicious because a lot of the things Alphonso claims are being plagiarized from his book are things I’ve seen in a lot of other art books. After Ethan’s very well researched video came out, it put me even more on the fence. I just don’t know at this point and I’m trying to be better about not blindly jumping on the “hate train”, as I’ve been guilty of that before. I’m trying to take a step back and be more objective and wait until more information is available. Will I be participating in Inktober? No, but I wasn’t planning to in the first place. Due to the pandemic, I, like many, have had to don a bunch of hats simultaneously in order to keep my family going. Mainly trying to be full time mom with new baby and toddler, housekeeper, cook, and full time worker both online and off. It’s a lot on my plate, so Inktober or any prompt list was not in the cards for me. (Though I started making an “Artful October” prompt list of my own for next year when I CAN participate) Ethan’s Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYnNnZxvoN-epbc Alphonso’s Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHiWdoGZdsmKeK8

You mentioned in your video that the Viviva watercolor worked like ink. Is there an ink content to it or is it a true watercolor, just heavily pigmented? I applaud your caution. More people need to look before they leap. I, too, am on the fence with the whole affair between Mr Parker and Mr Dunn. I try not to take a side when it is impossible to know ALL the facts about something. Thank you for posting. Your videos are fun, funny, inspirational and hopeful. All things desperately needed in these weird times. I hope you and your loved ones are healthy and prosperous during this massively eff'd up year. .

Above all, what I want to thank you for from this comment is that you openly say something about the “hate train” that is causing the toxic thing of “cancel culture”. Thank you for telling people that you’re waiting for more information before making a full decision. I hope that others will see you doing this and decide to do the same. 💜💜💜

I loved how you blurred out your “bad” painting, it made me laugh. Watching artists on KZbin, it’s easy to forget that they make mistakes too, but I’ve always admired how you purposefully include them and point them out. Your self-critiques and sense of humor about mistakes helps me remember that your art doesn’t have to be 100% perfect to be awesome. I’m a huge perfectionist and I have a bad habit of destroying anything that isn’t “perfect”. Thank you for showing your amazing art, mistakes and all, it never ceases to inspire me!

Yes! My bf and I moved to the city last year and he started having some increasingly bad panic attacks. I decided not too long ago to go buy a bunch of supplies and take him out for a little bit of a lunch date by our local lake. He said he instantly felt so much better and even though it was a few months ago he hasn't had a panic attack since. I think sometimes we just need to surround ourselves with nature for a few hours and just soak it all in. Even if we can't do it every day. Every little bit helps!

3:42 I believe that this structure is built specially so one could look through the square hole(s) and observe various wetland birds from a distance. The idea is that you'd be more or less hidden from the bird's view so it wouldn't get spooked and fly away. As you can see, each hole is placed at different heights so that people of all ages can have a go. I'd presume that the idea of the square hole (rather than, say, a round one) is to give your camera a flat surface to rest against if you happen to be taking photos. I could be wrong! But I'm like 99% sure. 😉🌸

Great video - I hope you do more showing us the natural areas around your home. That being said, there isn't a woman on earth who can't relate to your discomfort when the man startled you. Guys, this is the female reality. We have to be perpetually on guard and conscious of our surroundings to keep ourselves safe. It really sucks. Thank you, Emily, for addressing it here. I dont really paint outside, but this is such a thoughtful tip for those who do 👍👍 Sidenote: the part about the guy that surprised you is lowkey scary. Please keep the geese, they seem calmer there than here... They are scary as shit and have empty soulless eyes bent on human destruction. Every year they come to my area and you can’t even go to parks without geese surrounding you and hissing at you. Love from Canada

When they're down there, they're not raising goslings, so they're not nearly so aggressive as they are when they're up here :P

That, was exactly what I needed. Just found your channel and definitely subscribing! I always get hesitant painting outdoors because of exactly that, people around and the safety aspect. I sometimes think I could only do it again if someone came with me

I always hike alone, I find company distracting to my art and I always feel like somehow they’re not enjoying the hike as much as I am so I feel like I’m on a time limit. I always carry a knife and sometimes depending on my location or how long I plan to be out, a taser. Having a weapon or two puts me at ease so much more omg. And also awareness..
