Everything you touch turns out great. Even in the videos where you seem disappointed with the final product looks ten times better than anything I end up with. Keep the videos coming, I learn bits and pieces every time you post a new video.

How do you make your paint flow so well? And how do you avoid that the paint dries out when you are not using a wet pallet? If i use a dry pallet my paint is clumpy and unusable after about 5 minutes.

I think it turned out great. At what stage should you wash the model in alcohol? I painted a Bones hill giant last week and it seemed like it took the paint forever to dry. It's still a bit glossy. I used Freak Flex airbrush paints for the first time so maybe that's why.
@ThePaintingClinic8 жыл бұрын
It's the oils in the plastic that cause those problems. Give it a good spray and scrub, and maybe a short soak, with rubbing alcohol. Let dry. Then prime.
@DrDeathmonger8 жыл бұрын
Good info. I washed it with some dish soap to remove any mold release, but I'll do it this way. Thanks! :)

Have you tried Future floor wax to make your metallics shine again after you have dullcoated them? or you can paint the metal after you put on the Dulcoat.

I have problems with bones figures being sticky after I prime them with spray can primer. Is there a solution to this or stick with my water based gesso from now on?
@johannesblank15528 жыл бұрын
I had the same problem, especially pronounced when using black Army painter spray-on primer, the minis were sticky even after several coats of paint. I now use white Citadel primer, and no longer have the stickiness problem.
@coralinealgae8 жыл бұрын
Many spray primers cannot be used with plastic PVC minis. The best spray primer that I have found for any plastic minis is "Krylon Camouflage with Fusion for Plastic ultra-flat". It bonds better to plastic than anything and dries in minutes. The sand, gray, khaki, and black colors are my favorite. You can get them at Walmart. Just be sure to get Krylon and NOT another brand.

I don't know if you're still having this problem, but its something I've had happen as well and I know there are posts about it on the Reaper Forums. My first tip is to make sure and wash your Bones miniatures well; use warm, soapy water and some kind of a brush you can really scrub with. Like a lot of resin/polymer kits, Bones come with the remnants of the mold release agent on them so even if you can't see it, its still there and will only cause problems later on (i.e. inhibiting primer and paint adhesion). Just before you're ready to put down some primer, take a few minutes and give the miniature a last cleaning with some isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol; any will do, but I'd recommend 91% or higher as these tend to get the best results. This will clean anything off the miniature like dirt, oil, etc. as well as make sure the last bits of mold release are gone. There's a list on the Reaper Forums about which rattlecan primers work well with Bones material; I recommend you check it out and, if you plan on still using rattlecan primer make sure to get one of the brands listed. Personally, since I own an airbrush I use Vallejo Polyurethane primer and it goes on and stays on every time without problems, however both Reaper and Army Painter make brush on acrylic primer which should work as well.

Dr. going through your older vids and enjoying them. One question I keep asking is how you attach figures for painting. I see you use temp bases or permanent bases then affixed to your ubiquitous pot of paint. I can only imagine you use hot glue? Or perhaps blue tack? Or... I'm sure you cover it somewhere, but haven't found it yet.
@ThePaintingClinic6 жыл бұрын
Hot glue. More solid base than poster tack.
@willierants58806 жыл бұрын
Ah, thank you for clearing that up. It's a small thing, but it was nagging at me to no end. I may now watch in piece.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of either the current Fire or Frost giant sculpts; I saw a preview several months back of the third Bones series with some new Frost giants in it that looked more like what I remember but nothing on whether they're going to do any new/different Fire giants. Still, the mini came out decently though I agree with your assessment; maybe a semi-gloss instead of the matte finish would have kept some of that contrast.

That gal looks amazing! I second the color scheme suggestion for painting redheads/gingers; I dated a redhead for years and have a coworker who is a redhead, and I keep them firmly in mind for when I paint red hair. I will have to reverse engineer those colors with my P3 paints. What brushes do you use in your videos, BTW?

Random stab in the dark here, but I've got a ton of model kits that I'm trying to part with. Horizon models, polar lights, some resin kits, mainly superhero and classic movie monsters if your interested or if you might want to trade a few models for some work. I've got a marvel Cable that I was wanting to have completed, if you're interested.
