Painting Safety Eyes For Plushies? 💅🏻

This is the journey of me painting safety eyes for my baby Bokoblin! I sanded them down and used nail polish! I made a few mistakes that I’ve learned from and now I know better for next time! I think it turned out pretty well so far!

Make sure to use a quick dry nail polish top coat if you try that method again. I think it will help a lot

A small tube of epoxy high gloss after nail polish top coat. Otherwise it chips off.

You can get clear glass ones and paint the back and you can also get fish stones at the dollar tree and use them.

You have to sand the eyes because the gloss and smooth surface make it very difficult for the paint to hold on and stay, by sanding it you give it a texture the paint can grip on top better

You should try making one of the boko weapons like the book club, spiked boko club, boko shield, boko spear, boko bow, boko spiked shield, boko spiked bow, one of them and attach it to its hand that would be so cute but I think you sold both of your bokos..

I jusr used acrylic paint and did not have to sand. Everything turned out great and I used a top coat to protect from chiping.

I did the exact same thing and used a pair of pliers to hold it cause I didn’t think of cardboard

Looks adorable! For future eyes you can actually get clear safety eyes that you can paint the backs of, a lot simpler if you don't want to sand them

Yep you needed to top it with quick dry top coat. That is the cause of your issues. Otherwise the method looks fine. Next time I would try acrylic paint instead (same prep) it will dry faster and is easier to work with and you can paint the other details like pupils and eye shines before varnishing (to protect them from chipping).

I did add a top coat!! Just didn’t show it in the video :) it seems to have turned out fine after it dried a bit longer because I added way too many thick coats I think!

@@crochetbykittengrll Ah yeah you probably didn’t wait long enough if your coats were uber thick. I still would be curious if acrylic paint would work better for you. It dries much faster and is less thick in general.

Please only sand outside with a mask on!! I know it seems insignificant here, but it’s good practice and you’ll still be breathing in all the plastic particles you sanded off.

You could use a acrylic paint and a spray on clear coat. I recommend krylon uv protective. If you want shiny eyes get the gloss one and if you want eyes to not me shiny matte works. It will protect the paint from damage too.
