My favorite thing about your art is the blend of realistic areas with a dash of loose abstraction that immediately conveys "this is watercolor"! The background caught my eye in this one, I love that hard edge dry brush stroke on the left allowing us to see all the bristles of your brush. It worked out so lovely :D

Another wonderful video! I paint a lot of birds mostly because I love them so. Right now we are seeing the new baby quail that are always born this time of year. One family (we have numerous that come into our yard for the seed we put out) that had about 20 babies!! They are hard to count because they don't ever stop moving but there seems to be at least that many. Thanks for sharing the birds (and snake) that live in your yard. Their songs are beautiful!

You have so many birds that I've never seen or heard of in Australia. You are definitely blessed. I enjoy learning about them from you as well as learning watercolor techniques from you. Their song is lovely. But I must know, what happened to the snake? We have plenty here in Texas U.S. I'm not a fan. I'd be sounding an alarm right with the butcher birds. 😱

Friday made, and I am going to have to try the Fabriano paper. I have birds nearby, in the morning? They have a meeting outside my window to plan their day. As well as the crows? I am at times serenaded by five seagulls from my neighbour's roof. Do you dab your brush in some dish detergent before applying masking fluid?
@LouiseDeMasi4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Don. Thats sounds a bit like our place. It's the birds that wake us up every morning too. We don't need to set an alarm. I didn't put detergent on my masking fluid brushes but I know that's a useful tip to protect them. I always apply it with my old synthetic brushes that I don't use anymore and I wash them straight away with soap as soon as I'm finished.
@don91334 жыл бұрын
I also found that using the dish soap made it easier to get it off the paper without tearing or smearing.

I just bought some hot press paper by Fabriano, but I haven't tried it yet. Now I'm intrigued! Have you considered painting the python? (Or would that upset too many of your fans?) My step-brother used to have and manage a reserve of reptiles in south-western Colorado, USA, including a python. Apparently, the snake once became upset at something, bit him and started to swallow his hand and arm! The tricky part, he said, was unhooking the curved fangs. He also had a rattle snake pit! Oi! (He was always a little crazy!) Thanks for your lovely tutorials! I have learned so much from you!!

The lamp black seemed to have a violet hue, didn't get dark black until you put on the third layer, is that normal? I need to try mixing my own colors more instead of using premixed so much. Love all your paintings. 😀🧝♂️

Lol. He's harmless- non venomous. They are good to have around because they eat rats and mice.

You almost lost me at the mention of the python. Are these quite common in your area? I'd be afraid to venture very far off your deck. The birds are very cute and glad they alert you when the python is around. The painting is lovely and the background suits it. All your bird paintings in particular are spectacular.

Lol.. I think he lives here Dora. He/she is harmless (non-venomous). They eat rats and mice so they are good to have around. They'll eat small birds too so that's why the Butcherbirds were alarmed. 😬 💕

Thank you Louise for your beautiful paintings! I love Fabriano also- I previously mentioned that I had found Fabriano paper in a 'soft press' which I prefer. it is a surface texture between a cold press and a hot press- so nice to paint on. Were you able to locate it? I'm in the U S and I have ordered it from dickblick.com. It's listed under Fabriano Artistico Extra White watercolor paper - it comes in sheets 22X30 - 140 lb and 300 lb

omg >.< where the heck do you live that you have pythons at your door! but blick usually runs some deals on discounted sheets get 10 and get a good discounted on each sheet of about 3 bucks. You can't fail with fabriano. Except their white 140 lb hot press (which feels slick) is garbage i think. The 300 lb hot press, cold press, and I love using the ultra white 140 hot press it has a cloth like texture to it.
