Thank you. I had an epiphany watching this video. I have been painting for 1 year. I was drawn to watercolor specifically because often watercolor paintings have that “mottled” appearance we see in this goose’s belly, the shadow. Today it hit me...you didn’t paint a bunch of colors to get that look, it is granulating paints separating out. THANK YOU!!!

Too late, already have that drawer full of paints lol. You gave the BEST advice about purchasing warm/cool primary colors and learning how to mix those to create ALL the other colors! I have found that, with my drawer full of paints, it's only served to complicate this process. So, yeah...spend the money on the best paper and brushes you can afford and buy the paints you'd rather not mix at a later date. Thanks, Louise, for another fantastic video!

Oh my goodness. I learned so much from watching this video. So good. I’ve only been painting a few months and struggle with negative space. I can’t seem to leave white on the subjects in my paintings. I just want to fill it in with color. This is the perfect video to show me how you don’t need a lot of colors and you don’t need to fill all the spaces on the paper. I do wonder how you decide to shape the “background” colors on the painting. It looks fabulous. I don’t know how to tell when the color is enough. Thanks again for posting this.

Hi Louise, Really enjoy your tutorials and how you explain every detail of your paintings this has helped me to make my watercolour paintings more simple without going to the expense of having to buy so many tubes of paint. I have tried to become a patron but as I am not great at working out these things on computer, I could only see the US dollar or British Pound etc but not Australian Dollar where it says change currency, not quite sure where to go from here I was looking at the $6 a month. Could you advise me as to overcome this hiccup please. Thank you Louise. 😊
@LouiseDeMasi
@LouiseDeMasi 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sylvia, Thank you! Patreon only has USD, British Pounds and Euro conversions. I charge $6USD so your bank or however you decide to pay will convert that for you. At the moment I think the Aussie dollar is sitting at about 74 US cents so It will probably be a little over $8 Australian a month for you. It will change as the Aussie dollar changes - your bank will look after that for you though.

Lovely goose! We have lots of Canada Geese here in Oregon, you have inspired me to try to do one of them, I think they are elegant! Fun bloopers... is your husband Italian?, or does he just have a good Italian accent? I think yours was quite respectable! p.s. the portraits, esp. the one of your son, are excellent!

You should! Thank you Lydia. Both his parents are Italian. He was born in Australia but he can do a good Italian accent. 😝 💕

Do you consider each of these three primary colors to be neutral colors?

Louise how to decide when to use a warmer grey against a cooler grey? Also can i use any other blue besides ultramarine blue to mix greys? Bcoz i hv 2 tubes of prussian blue n none of ultramarine!😐😐

You can use any two complementary colours to make a grey. I usually let the reference photo help me decide whether the colour should be cooler or warmer. Cool colours recede and warm colours advance so if you want the area you are painting to go back a bit- go for a cool colour. If you want it to come forward- choose a warmer colour.
