Hey all! Do you guys prefer contrast for your infinity minies, or do you like to go all out with normal acrylics? ( maybe oils? :) ) Would you like to see similar content on the channel, or do you enjoy the more complex paintjobs more?

Yes, please! More Infinity and more techniques ;) . And I have also done pretty much everything :P Contrast, normal acrylics and most of my Ariadna in Oils. It's not for the showcase, but looks top notch from 6ft away haha

More of anything is good. There's not a lot of Infinity painting videos out there. I use mostly contrast/xpress paints/inks on all my minis, including my Infinity stuff. There's also some steps you can take to take your undershading to another level including a black wash and a drybrush of white/off-white or just drybrushing pure white over the zenithal which is what I've come to prefer on my Infinity stuff.

Just found your channel. I use contrast over a zenithal primer as a base but than add highlights with normal acrylics.

You're doing a real service for the infinity community by having well instructed and accessible paint tutorials when there is a severe lack of content for these minis. Great work. Keep it up!

For metallic I put a silver undercoat and then contrast over the top, it opens up a lot of possibilities with different effects that would otherwise be hard to achieve.

Contrast paints are fantastic, and the Contrast Plus method looks good. I do prefer seeing how higher level paint jobs are painted though.

These look great, Infinity models have always intimidated me, I will give this a try and see if it leads me into the game.

They are much less intimidating than they look :D I am sure you will have a lot of fun painting and playing them!

Awesome! I contrast all my infinity minis. Recently tried the "slap chop" method (stupid name), it worked really well!

This video has been super helpful. I have found it surprisingly difficult to find painting channels that cover infinity models. Subbed!

@@ph3lansminiatures After watching I actually picked up the brush again for the first time in a while. Tbh the Box art on Infinity kits is really intimidating to me as I'm just not that great of a painter. I spent the last days working my way through the Ariadna part of the Operation Crimson Stone box set and am sort of happy with the result. I was really struggling on the white metal armor on some of the units (especially the Volkolak) because there isn't really a good color in the contrast range for that. Do you have any recommendations with regard to colors for this?

It is awesome to hear that you started painting after watching :D as for the white, if you are looking for a way to use contrast you can try what I did in this video. Basically use apothecary white contrast above a bright zentlithal highlight. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nIG1kpR9gNaKo6s If you are willing to try something more complex, you can start with a medium grey and then work yourself up to an almost white ( Ivory or a very bright grey). Just try to avoid pure white except maybe for edge highlights 😉 good luck!

I'm generally not a fan of contrast/speedpaints, but for a team of Ariadna, I tried it out. Hated the finish with just the speedpaints, especially the faces, but when I layered on and highlighted with conventional acrylics I actually got a result that I really liked for tabletop quality. In the end trying something new worked well, and added another tool to the toolbox for me. Next project is some Tartary figs, which I'll use the same style, different colour scheme.

I prefer army painter speed paint, but this type of paint is tabletop standard made easy.

I've been slapchop painting my Morats, and it's really helped my fear of painting these models.

These look great for being a fast paint job, the nmm effect turned out pretty decent for basically only using contrast paints. I myself still cannot bring myself to paint at anything other than my highest standard, which is part of the reason I play kill team / infinity instead of 40k

Hey Steven! Yep, that's how I tend to think about it as well. But I wanted to see what I can do with Contrast since I haven't tried it on infinity models yet. Plus, I assume that a lot of people are interested in it and thought it would be a good idea to see if there is interest on the channel for content about it.
@StevenJohnson108

@@ph3lansminiatures I think it makes sense to offer both kinds of content for sure. Maybe you'll be convincing me to try a more fast contrast approach on some of my unpainted Kill Teams!

It is a great way to make a dent in your pile of shame :D Plus, the contrast paints are super useful for things that they were not intended for. I use them instead of inks through the airbrush for example.

Great video and I dig your fast results - but personally I can't stand the finish from contrast/speed paints 😅 I would rather spend a bit more time working on them using traditional methods so I'm not cringing every time I put the models on the table haha

I wish speedpaints would be a way to paint infinity models for me but they look dull. Without that edge highlights it would be ok for a beginner painter but they looked ugly to me and I'm not so advanced at painting. I tried to do some years ago the same thing to my Spiral Corps (heavy value differences applied by drybrush grey and white over black primer and then using diluted normal acrylics). Eventually I ended with spending much more time because results were simply dissapointing. I had to add layers of paint to make colours somewhat more vivid and a lot of edge highlits. In case of red cape in this video it turned out really bad to me (to me!). Overall, I think that better even for begginer painter is to learn working with normal acrylics without washes. Those damn paints were really keeping my learning curve at bay and when I stopped using washes in GW way I gained more control and less frustration. I mean, if you are ok with end result of wash over basecoat or speedpaint over white primer then it is completely fine. But if you are looking for a little bit more eye catching paintjob then start learning from beginign with the right approach. Using speedpaints will not give you that experience which layering gives. Not even mentioning wet blending. Still I love to watch every attempt to squeeze more painted figures in less time. My Pile of Shame would be smaller... I hope :D

I tend to mostly agree. I think normal acrylics are better in every situation except one. A lot of people don't really care about improving their painting. They simply want to get some paint on their models to be able to play with them ( which is a perfectly valid and fine approach, I think). For them, contrast paints are perfect, since they don't require much experience and the learning curve is very low. So basically, if you are not in it for the painting, but for the games but you still want decent looking minis, then contrast and a couple of highlights is the superior alternative.
