Painting The Horse Sculpture

My horse now has his final coat of paint, and I'm totally in love with him. I went with a very simple way of painting him, with layers of paint from dark to light. With that crazy mane, I didn't think it needed much additional details to make it work - but I know that every sculpture that's made with this pattern will look very different, and I can't wait to see how your horse turns out.

Thanks. I think it would look great as a palomino, too, with a flowing white mane and the soft yellow head and neck. I have a book about horses that shows all the spots and colors they can have, and it's amazing.

Ms. Jonnie, you can buy finger protectors from Dollar Tree so you don’t burn your fingers with hot glue. If you don’t have a Dollar Tree I also saw them on Amazon. I tried them out and they work great!

Betty, I tried that - but within five minutes I lost them. Maybe I'll try again - I do manage to burn myself almost every time I use the glue gun because I'm so clumsy. 😊

Joni, when you put the base layer down that justified my thinking that it would look great finished with a metal look. Then you put down the brown and I thought, "Yes! That would look great with a sculptured wood appearance." Then came the details came and the realistic look combined with the more edgy sculpture style looked absolutely awesome. (I actually like that kind of angular look. It gives it a nice modern edge with out sacrificing the beauty of the realism.) By the way, I know some professional painters who adhere to your theory, "You just keep putting paint on there until you decide you like it." It's pure pleasure to watch your creativity in action. Thank you.

I just printed your horse. I do not have the adhesive paper so, I just cut cut the parts and glued them on the cardboard. I do not have cereal boxes so I used the box from a case of soda. All I can say is that I wish I had a "glow forge" laser cutting machine, to cut the cardboard. None the less, all the parts are cut and I am ready to start to put it together.

I don't know what a glow forge machine is, but I really hoped I could make the pattern work on the light cereal box cardboard. The box cutter wears out my old hands. I hope you'll share photos of your horse on the Daily Sculptors page on my site so we can all see how it turns out. 😀

@@UltimatePaperMache I worked on the horse ALL day yesterday. I did ok until I got to the last 6 pieces. The neck turned out a little skinny on mine but it will be ok. Here is a video on the Glowforge kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmito5mfaq-dq9k. It will cut cardboard like butter but expensive. You must be some kind of engineer to make the patterns. Thanks for the email.

Oh this turned out amazing!! My bonus daughter barrel races with her horse so I’ll have to attempt this project one day. If I get brave enough to do one, I think I will add some false eyelashes to the top eye lids too. Especially since I already have them and I don’t think I’ll ever use them for myself. 😬🤷🏻‍♀️ It is her horse’s lashes that I remember so well about it and what gave me the idea to use them. You are such a talented artist. I was mesmerized watching flat pieces of paper come together to make your master piece. Joni I LOVE your horse i have been waiting for a really good way to do a horse for years this looks so much like my husbands horse its crazy! I have only one little critique i do think the ears are slightly large for this head. I am not at the barn but tonight i am going so i am going to measure his ears but I will measure his actual ears so you can maybe do some callculatio no i think this head is about a 1/4th of a real horse head. Lol my grandaughter stood here just now as I am thinking and said that looks a lot like Gypsy lol we are definetly making this
