Sandy, I have to tell you I watched you and Mark on the Fed by Farmers podcast and heard you make a statement that you didn't understand why anybody watched you. Today was a prime example of why I watch. You are real. You show us the ups and downs, you share your emotions and just who you are. I enjoy watching you in the barn and in the fields. Having been a farm wife most of my life, your sharing reminds me of hard time but good times as well. Keep on being YOU! Never had sheep and probably never will but I still enjoy watching and never try to miss an episode. God bless.

It NEVER gets boring seeing the lamb piles (like puppy piles but woolier) and the absolutely adorable and random color patterns on the ones that aren't solid colors. I realize it's maybe less desirable to have wool with different colors running through it as a whole. But as a crocheter and crafter, I think it would make that wool much more precious because of how unique it is.
@alicecain48519 ай бұрын
I just can't imagine 100s or 1000s of years ago when some person figured out a way to take the wool from an animal and take the steps to make it into the material to make into clothes. Both knitting and crocheting seem so random. There were long winters, I guess... Weaving, too. Items that were eventually made into food that had to go through many processes until... bread! Cheese! Edible vegetables! Those early people really had to see things differently for them to become the things we take so for granted today. I'm amazed ALL of the time! 🎉 🐑 🎉 🐑 🎉

I’m really just here for the lambing, but my second favorite thing is the feeding, where the chaos of the pen devolves into a tidy row of ewes munching, and the lambs take advantage of the open space to run steeplechases. It makes me very happy.

@alicecain48519 ай бұрын
I think it's mostly that she doesn't keep the males. She did say that she might be keeping some back this time as she's going to have a few males that are getting pretty old and aren't as vigorous. She knows the parentage of each lamb and who can and can NOT be bred together. I think keeping back her own rams will be good for her flock. Should be interesting!

I so love seeing your successful fostered lambs Sandi. I imagine it fills you with such JOY!!! I’m 78, so going back 65 -70 years, to successfully foster, the sad little lost lamb was skinned and then that skin was tied onto the new foster lamb (a twin was moved to her so her milk was not wasted.) The Mother simply accepted this situation and quite soon before it became smelly, the borrowed coat was removed. In those days, mostly single lambs. As the years went by, twin lamb numbers did increase. This was in August so if I count 6 months., that could be your end of January into February time frame. This was their only lambing experience each year. Lambing coincided with school holidays. No sons so it was all us girls out there come dawn in heavy frosty weather. Had to break the ice on their drinking water as you do for your Golden Girls, but that’s the only way we could wash our hands so chilblain territory. Time moves on and now all the clever things that have been invented. Like clearing lungs, tube feeding , the warm boxes with heating pads. Technology is marvellous isn’t it. Margot New Zealand
