Another thing you could do with the solid green wall, if it’s too much work to wallpaper it. Fix the wall the way you’d like, leave it green, and add a gallery wall descending the staircase. This could be a way to bring in the wallpaper, and colors from the wallpaper, on that side. You could add your extra wallpaper to one or two of the picture frames going down the stairs. The other frames you could use prints that have a similar color scheme to the hallway and wallpaper. Just an idea. Love you so much Ariel 💛!

As a person that owns a home that needs plenty of DIY, I find this format of video where you show us the bits of progress to be SO MUCH MORE ENCOURAGING to me, because it accurately represents my relationship with home DIY progress. You often can't do a big project all at once, so sometimes you kind of live with the in progress state around you while you go about your day. Besides, I think this ends up with us having MORE VIDEOS so I'm obviously happy about that. Your hallway is looking lovely and I can't wait to see it turn out, but have lots of fun on your trip first.

Agree! It feels stressful watching start to completion in one video because I think I’ll never be able to do x and then don’t want to start. Feeling and being along for the project and progress makes me more motivated and gives a sense of accomplishment like I can do it just need to start on my own projects and brings a sense of community since we’re all along for the ride with Ariel on hers.

Hearing you say that you like the blue and you don't like the blue was so comforting to me. I'm an elderly person with chronic health conditions. I recently repainted my bedroom with help from my daughter, her partner, and my partner. Even with all that help, it was a massive undertaking. Now, I realize that I like the color in the abstract, but not on my walls. Ugh! I've been trying to talk myself into the color, but I'm not succeeding. At least everything has been prepped now! Finding out that other people make painting mistakes helps me to feel less stupid and inept.
@beckymcdonald80405 күн бұрын
Sweetie, paint a big swatch of the color you like on something other than your walls, and live with that for a few days. Make sure it is where you can see how it looks in all kinds of light from the sun, and your overhead light. That way you haven't made a commitment yet.
@calgram5 күн бұрын
Ditto @beckymcdonald8040. Paint is no longer cheap, so avoid mistakes. Get a BIG piece of white butcher paper or poster board . Buy sample jars of paint (the good paint lines offer these-I bought some at Home Depot to finalize my LR wall color). Use your final 2 or 3 paint choices to paint each on a poster board/butcher paper. Tape to your room's wall, one at a time, and move around to dark corners and bright light sections of wall, watching how the color changes with different times of day (and night with lamp light). One important lesson I learned is that a paint swatch (the long, narrow ones with @ 6 gradients of color) in the store seems to always be much darker when painted on the wall. Learning this, I bought a paint color that the lightest paint swatch looked absolutely white to me even though the color line was blue. When I painted it on my bedroom wall is was the loveliest, soft, barely-there baby blue. It was perfect for that room. Good luck to you!

Now that the painting is done, try changing your light bulb warmth, cooler or brighter or warmer, etc , Maybe it will help the hue.

I like the idea of a gallery wall. Using the wallpaper as mats for the pictures. Perhaps use black and white (or tinted a pale color) photos of the progress you made on the house. Even photos in pairs like a before and after series as one moves up the staircase.
@EBrenry5 күн бұрын
FYI…. file this for future reference: because ceilings usually rely on reflected & ambient light (rather direct), a ceiling will nearly always appear darker than the walls (this is why white is the default). Wall color on a ceiling will appear darker than the walls. To counteract that, most designers decide to mix a color 25-50% lighter than what’s on the vertical surface (walls/wainscoting/etc). When applied to the ceiling, it will blend appropriately with the walls. If you ever find your hallway too dark, this is your solution. 🙂

Not exciting? Are you kidding? Watching you run around like a crazy person and pack for a trip overseas as well as getting all that work done was wonderful. Don’t worry about not having a before and after. The format of this video was just fine. I really thought that blue was too dark and the green would be just as dark, but you’re right, the green is not as dark and it just fits in better. I agree that it will look better when that other wall is wallpapered so there’s not so much green in the area. That archway looks fantastic with the green and it will really fit with the ceiling. Great work, and enjoy your trip.

For next time, If you want the green you can get your colour made up at half tint. It really is subtle but because the green is counting off the other green in the room it really stops the heavy effect. We just did a bedroom with full tint ceiling and crown half tint on the walls. The result is quite stunning, but very subtle. The window area. Is stunning.

Another thing you could do on the staircase wall is add only the batons ( in board and baton) down the stairs. Cheaper than doing the board behind it. Also then cheaper to add the wallpaper above it all to make it cohesive around the hallway. One large wall of wallpaper won’t look right. 😊

Just like you wouldn’t skip eating for a day in order to have more time to wallpaper, you shouldn’t skip resting for a day in order to have more time to wallpaper. This is especially vital when you are 1) recovering from an illness and 2) about to do a lot of high-energy things on your trip (traveling, exploring, etc). You 100% made the right call to rest instead of force yourself through the wallpapering. To put it a different way: you are working hard to have a beautiful, functional home to live in. This is so good. It is also important to work on having a rested, functional body to live in, and some of that work is “resting when I need it, even though I technically could be doing other things.” It can be difficult, just like home renovation! But the lived consequences are more than worth it.

I feel like the best part of doing small videos like this is that you get immediate suggestions/opinions. Its easier to make the light switch when you're still doing the wallpaper, than doing it after everything's done and you just want to move on. The ceiling gave everything a cohesive feeling amd its cosy and cottage like. I still feel like it closes up too much of the room (as opposed to the beije color), but it's definitely an upgrade from the blue

I enjoyed it so much. Here’s why: a.) I’m a list maker, and would love to find a typewriter! b.) I enjoy motivational process videos... not all process videos are the same. No one likes to watch paint dry, regardless of color!😂 But! I loved how you declared “moving the project forward” as your end goal for this video, then gave manageable steps! So many times people lose motivation, because they can’t decide the end goal for today. People don’t know they can do anything for 15 mins and be further along in what needs doing. Hope your birthday is phenomenal!🎉 see you in the next one!

These vides are so wonderful and motivational! Because of your last video in this series, I pulled out my own typewriter to make a list of things that I needed to do for a big living room project that I've put off for 4 years. It helped so much! I powered through skim coating my walls so quickly just so that I could have that serotonin boost of physically crossing off a to-do item. It's so nice to finally have a project that I've been dreading for so long finally done! Home projects can take a long time and videos like these are so helpful to know that it's ok to slowly chip away at them.

also love just seeing the progress i dont think it needs to be a succinct before and after vid - gets you way more invested this way. American Viscountess does this with her Little Italian Houe reno updates - little at a time! Cheers!

I actually really enjoy a whole series of videos that is a project. It's exciting to come back to it each week, after waiting with anticipation for the next one. And it's also really satisfying to watch them all in a compilation video at the end! Plus, I'm happy to know that you're taking the work at a pace that is in accordance with your body's limits, that you're taking care of yourself.

I knew the blue ceiling closed in the space (to me) but had no idea the green would not have the same effect. It just works so well! It looks like it was meant to be. Love the wallpaper you chose and it will look great on the opposite wall as well. I am also amazed by what a big difference just adding polyurethane made to the stair rails. Beautiful! I was thinking all wood projects entail scraping, sanding, staining etc. Hope you enjoy your trip!

I love how you try ideas and then if you don't like it, you change. That's real life. Have a great time at the festival.

Green was the right call. And honestly, I love that your shirt matches exactly!

It’s ok to change directions and I think you will be happy with a different colored ceiling. Such a great space and what you’ve done with it!

Plate switch cover is amazing. You can use a little of the green paint or beige nail polish to paint over the screws.

There is textured wallpaper available, and it is used to cover walls that are not in good shape and can be painted. The hallway is coming along. Well done.

The green ceiling made the hallway lighter too. I think the darker gray blue made the hallway feel a little too dark. Looks great and happy birthday ❤🎉
