Thanks, Joseph! I appreciate it! I use the solo with the 0.15mm needle. Even though it's a small needle/nozzle size, it's more than adequate for large projects, like Warmachine Colossals and Gargantuans, etc. You can always send me a PM through KZbin! Sorry my Contact Us page isn't functional yet. I'm a complete newbie at building web sites so it's taking me a looooong time to figure out all the basics. Thanks for watching!

Respect from across the atlantic.

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. If I remember correctly, I used a Canon 6D for the beginning part of this, but the 7D for the majority. I also use the 24-70mm L and the 24-105mm L lenses, as well. I love the 6D's low light performance, but the 7D w/ 24-70mm is a very familiar combo to me and I'm able to anticipate its needs pretty well at this point :) I've got another video coming out in the next couple days which was also shot with the 7D and 24-70L. Love that lens!

Thank you, Brian! That is very nice of you to say. Hope you're enjoying the hobby!! I will probably paint the Gargantuan (Mammoth?) at some point. I have an Archidon that is primed and ready for paint, but that's not a terribly Skorne-y model, so I'll do others, too. Looking forward to seeing you and your work on the forums!

Thanks, Andrew! I do a similar cleaning -- usually some Simple Green then rubbing alcohol (I use 91% but I imagine it's very similar in effectiveness to 70%). I'll also do a full breakdown and cleaning (usually every time I paint), just to make sure it's operating at peak performance. I usually drop the nozzle in a capful of acetone and let the paint dissolve, then I use a small pipe cleaner to clean out all the gunk in there. It goes pretty quickly and works well for me!

I'm not great at painting faces, but I think the workflow I used here is very possible without an airbrush. The key for faces, in my opinion, is strong contrast so the tiny little faces will still pop off the table. I probably could have gone with an even darker shade and an even brighter highlight. But you can use these same (or similar) colors with a bristle brush and really thin paint and still get the same effect!

Thanks, Quick! I actually saw Man of Steel about a week ago (really liked it!) but it never even entered my mind when painting this. But now that I look at pictures, I can definitely see the resemblance!

I think any inks will work for this effect. Even well thinned acrylics will do, too. The best part about inks and ghost tints is that they're transparent, so they won't completely cover the underlying layers. I'd say give it a shot with whatever inks you've got -- they should do the trick!

Thanks, Joe! I'd love to see Vallejo start bottling oil paints in a form that's usable for wargamers. I know that AK Interactive has some products that are enamel, and possibly also oil-based, that are perfect for weathering and they're sold pre-mixed. Maybe the other companies will follow suit!

Hi Chris! I usually thin ghost tints about 2 or 3 drops thinner to 1 drop tint, though it depends on the color. The Blue (which I used here) doesn't need as much thinner, as it goes on fairly light. The Plasma Fluid, Brown, and Fresh Blood are a lot stronger, though, and I'll add a lot more thinner to keep them from being too overpowering. And I think any ink is a suitable replacement, but they've got to be well thinned and sprayed in very, very thin coats to prevent pooling. Hope this helps!

Hey Haggard! Thanks for the kind words. I can't tell you how many times I've had the Animantarax (sp???) in my shopping cart on various online retailers, but I always end up snagging something else instead. Hi Dennis! I never change needle sizes -- always .15mm. It's small, for sure, but it's definitely big enough to basecoat large models and shoot varnish. I feel like having two airbrushes (one for basecoating and one for detail, for example) is kind of silly. One has alway served me just fine!

I think the reeves oils will work just as well. When making an oil wash, it's usually best to use the highest quality oils, though, because you want the ones with the best and highest content of pigment. To thin the oils, you'll need to use something like Mineral Spirits/White spirits, turpentine, grumtine, etc. Anything that thins oil paints should work!

Hi! As far as compressors go, I whole-heartedly recommend the TC-20T from TCP Global. It's like $100-$110USD, and it works fantastically. Comes with a great warranty, a moisture trap, a regulator, and a tank -- everything you need! As far as airbrushes go, I'd suggest looking at Harder&Steenbeck, Badger, and Iwata. Find something in your price range and go for it! You won't go wrong with those three companies!

Yeah, the game colors aren't meant for the AB and can be a bit finicky. But I tend to thin at least 3:1 or 4:1, and I use plenty of drying retarder to help prevent dry tip. When they're plenty thin and have some retarder, they usually end up working ok (even if they go through the airbrush kicking and screaming).

I'm not a fan of Object Source Lighting on smaller minis, but this one is absolutely amazing. It does make me think of the Kryptonian Armour from the latest Superman movie. I also really liked how much pre shading you did before adding the colour/tints. I hope I can incorporate a lot of thes techniques myself as I get better with an airbrush.

If you're looking for a new airbrush, I'd suggest looking into Harder & Steenbeck, Iwata, and Badger. They all make very good quality products that will last a long time. I'd also suggest finding a model that is a dual-action, gravity-feed, internal mix airbrush. A single action airbrush is cheaper but gives you almost no control. Top-feed and siphon-feed airbrushes tend to be wasteful when painting models this small. And internal mix will give you a finer spray pattern. Hope this helps!

Hey man! I think the Ghost Tints are a "necessary evil." They're kind of a pain to work with, but they are pretty handy and worth the effort. The biggest problem is the spattering/dry tip that makes them very inefficient at times. It's hard to get a good flow, especially at a lower psi and with a finer spray. If you're going full blast, they're great. But it's tough to pull fine lines. The color bleed is a bit of a problem, too, but I've only noticed it one time so it may not be every time.
