This is actually what TMM is! TMM = using metalic pigments but also applying some NM paint as shadows or glazes as Highlight. None of the pros that use TMM, just paint Metallic with a wash. Its great that you explained this because many people think TMM means just painting with a Metallic paint when actually it’s referring to the technic you show in video! Great job as always!

I like this technique. I've painted nonmetallic weapons and armour. I like the effect, but it's a hassle. This seems a lot easier with the plus of similar results.

A most excellent tutorial and technique! Thanks for sharing, will try this out next time I paint metallics (which I usually hate to paint but this method may change that fact).

These look exquisite. I’m about to start on a colored metallic scheme for an army and I didn’t really know what to do to shade and highlight. So it’s timely for me. Thank you.

How do you work around the fact that when the miniature is varnished, matt varnish complete kills the metallic shine?

Hi. Very nice and interesting painting technique video. Could you tell me where can I find this mini? Thanks. Im looking for historic and size like ASOIAF game.

Hey Doc, I know you advocate using a Matt varnish, do you varnish over your metallics? I assume not?
@ThePaintingClinic Жыл бұрын
Yes I do.
@wingwalker007 Жыл бұрын
@@ThePaintingClinic interesting… I watch a number of KZbin painters and the advice is always to leave metallics until after the Matt varnish stage. Yours do seem to have more character to them and maybe that’s why, they look more ‘painted’ like a traditional painter than their’s. I’ll give it a go and change the order of what I do.

I love this. Always liked metallics but could never get that great contrast. I do have a couple of questions, if that's ok. What colours would I use for gold? Same as bronze? Also, what about 'real' silver, not blueish steel? Just plain black? Thanks in advance.
@ThePaintingClinic3 жыл бұрын
Still working on gold. Maybe black for plain silver, though I'd try to mix in a little blue. Lots of different color mixes to try that I haven't played with yet.
@michaelsorensen75672 жыл бұрын
Brainstorming, haven't tried For silver I'd go off tarnish inspired colors (blacks and dark browns) for grimier, or maybe a flat grey (darker grey?) for clean silver For gold I'd start with burnt umber/burnt sienna, maybe build up a mid tone with yellow mixed in.

This is significantly better than the Street Sharks method of painting metallics. Which, now that I think about it, seems an awful lot like a blatant rip-off of this technique.
