Dear Boomer, definitely must have said this before, the way you give your view and insight into model painting is just awesome. Yep, indeed, I too remember the drawing of those grey scale doodles my favorite drawing teacher once taught us. Until now, I never thought of using those as a reference for shades, adjacent to the actual model. But, heck you’ve once more sown the seed and the nickel finally fell right into the slot. With your tutorials I’ve definitely changed the way I model, how I paint my models and how I take reference, not so much for a prototype actualization into a model, but definitely for those detail parts I want to display in my models. So, yes my dear master of the airbrush and brush, your humble pupil will again follow suit. Starting with practice, practice and practice. Thanks very much for being a ‘shaded’ light on this very day. Have a nice weekend. Greetings from Amsterdam the Netherlands.

Thanks, Boomer. I counted I have over 50 brushes just for my modeling. I think I must still be looking for that one magic brush that does every technique all at once. I could use some advice for getting out of the zone after getting in it. Sometimes, it takes me a while to get in it by the time I realize I've been in the zone. It's 2 AM. Happy rails.

Once again superb artistry, Boomer - thank you for sharing. I have been waiting for the structure painting to commence so I could see and understand how you were going to present them. Great ideas and thank you for spelling out scale shadowing. This will certainly help as I start painting the structures as I complete them, and will likely have me readdressing those few I have already done. ⊙.⊙.◎ As for the extractor? Bravo!

I use a cheap airbrush (100.00). It's the compressor that makes all the difference. Get a good 2HP (with tank) compressor. Mine is a Makita MAC 700.

Ask for "Student" quality Windsor & Newton. Get Black, White, Raw Umber (for most shadows), Burnt Umber (for rust, etc.). Then go for , Naples Yellow and Olive Green. These are the colors I use the most and they will last a lifetime!

At the end of the video you said you cover the model with a gloss coat, then apply the oil paints, after the oil paints dry do you have finish with a dull coat to get rid of the shininess of the gloss coat?
@boomerdiorama
@boomerdiorama 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. The question is how long you wait to flat coat over the oils. For weathered buildings, etc., I wait 48 hours. For a locomotive or rolling stock I would wait a week or two to be safe. ;-)

Curious if you're adding anything to break the surface tension of your water? I know the IPA doesn't always play well with Vallejo acrylics.
@boomerdiorama
@boomerdiorama 2 жыл бұрын
I don't add anything when I paint Vallejo over "Flat" Tamiya. I like the anomalies (tide marks, etc.) caused by some tension. I never use IPA with Vallejo unless I want a certain "corrosive" effect etc for weathering, etc. - IPA is great for this. I also rarely ever shoot Vallejo through the airbrush - I am addicted to Tamiya which I can mix any color if I am in thee mood. Hard to beat Vallejo for color choices though. ;-) Cheers ~ Boomer.

Used this method, and when I got to the washes, some of the white washed away. Did I miss something about sealing the Tamiya before applying water?
@boomerdiorama
@boomerdiorama Жыл бұрын
What did you use to make washes with? Tamiya should not move if you only spray water on it. If you sprayed IPA on and/or agitated it with a brush using IPA it will cut through Tamiya.

@@boomerdiorama I used Model Air and water and where it puddled is where the white washed away. I tried the same method on another test model that had different colors and nothing happened. Could the white have been too thin?
